ONE CHAIR FOR POSSIBILITIES

ONE CHAIR FOR POSSIBILITY

TODAY I CHOOSE POSSIBILITY.

Beloveds.

We made it to Friday.

Not perfectly.

Not necessarily gracefully.

Maybe not even the way we imagined we would.

But…

here.

And after everything we’ve talked about this week, I don’t want to end by handing you another assignment.

I don’t want to tell you to dream bigger.

Try harder.

Move faster.

Believe stronger.

Fix everything.

Figure out your five-year plan.

Nope.

Today I have a much smaller invitation.

Save one chair for possibility.

That’s it.

You don’t have to know what’s coming.

You don’t have to convince yourself that everything will happen exactly the way you want.

You don’t have to manufacture certainty and call it faith.

You don’t even have to feel particularly optimistic today.

Just don’t lock tomorrow out.

Leave one chair.

One little space in your heart that says:

Maybe.

Maybe there is more.

Maybe something can change.

Maybe I can change.

Maybe healing can happen in a way I haven’t imagined.

Maybe somebody wonderful can walk through a door I thought would remain empty.

Maybe an opportunity I cannot see yet is already making its way toward me.

Maybe I will laugh again.

Maybe I will love again.

Maybe I will try again.

Maybe I will surprise myself.

Maybe God isn’t finished.

Maybe.

Sometimes that is enough hope for one day.

🪑 HOPE DOESN’T REQUIRE CERTAINTY

We have done hope a terrible disservice by making it sound like certainty.

Hope is not:

“I know exactly what will happen.”

Sometimes hope is:

“I don’t know what will happen, but I haven’t decided that nothing good can.”

There is a difference.

Certainty wants guarantees.

Hope can sit beside questions.

Certainty wants the whole map.

Hope sometimes travels with enough light for the next few feet.

Certainty says:

“Tell me how this ends.”

Hope says:

“I’ll leave room for an ending I cannot see yet.”

Beloved, you don’t have to know.

You can hope without knowing.

You can believe without understanding.

You can move without seeing the entire road.

You can rest without quitting.

You can be disappointed and still leave the door cracked open.

You can grieve what was and remain curious about what might be.

That is not denial.

That is possibility.

🙏🏿 WHAT JEREMIAH 29:11 DOESN’T MEAN

I love Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” — Jeremiah 29:11 KJV

But I don’t want to use that Scripture like a greeting card that promises nothing difficult will happen.

The people hearing those words were not standing in an easy moment.

They were living through displacement.

Waiting.

Uncertainty.

They were being told to build lives while they waited.

That changes how I hear the verse.

God was not saying:

“Nothing hard will happen.”

He was reminding them that hardship had not erased the future.

Whew.

Hardship had not erased the future.

Neither has yours.

💜 HEART CHECK

Have you quietly decided something is impossible because it hasn’t happened yet?

Have you confused:

not yet

with

never?

Maybe you stopped expecting friendship.

Love.

Peace.

Joy.

Purpose.

Community.

Adventure.

Rest.

Healing.

A new dream.

A different path.

Maybe disappointment taught you to protect yourself by expecting nothing.

I understand why.

If I don’t hope, maybe I won’t hurt.

But hopelessness charges its own price.

Sometimes protecting ourselves from disappointment also protects us from possibility.

So I am not asking you to fling every door open today.

Just unlock one.

🔒🔑

That’s enough.

👑 TINY VICTORY

Look backward for just a minute.

Not to live there.

To notice.

You made it through things you once didn’t know how you would make it through.

There were mornings you didn’t have Friday’s answers on Monday.

You simply kept living until Friday arrived.

There are things you know today that an earlier version of you desperately wanted to know.

There are people you hadn’t met yet.

Laughs you hadn’t laughed.

Lessons you hadn’t learned.

Strength you hadn’t discovered.

Tiny moments of beauty you could not possibly have predicted.

You didn’t know they were coming.

They came anyway.

So today’s tiny victory is simple:

Celebrate how far you’ve come.

No ruler.

Remember Wednesday?

😂

We threw that thing down.

Your distance counts even if somebody else traveled farther.

🌎 DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

Be somebody’s possibility today.

Not their rescuer.

Not their fixer.

Not the person who barges into their life with twelve instructions and a motivational speech they didn’t request.

😂

Just possibility.

Send the message.

Make the call.

Leave the kind comment.

Tell somebody:

“I thought about you today.”

Invite somebody in.

Encourage somebody who is trying.

Tell somebody what you appreciate about them while they can hear you say it.

Offer somebody a chair.

Sometimes the possibility another person needs is simply discovering:

Somebody sees me.

Somebody remembered me.

Somebody made room for me.

💜 YOUR STORY STILL MATTERS

Look at the books beside Friday’s chair:

HOPE.

KINDNESS.

A BETTER TOMORROW.

STILL HERE.

MORE TO COME.

I love that last one.

MORE TO COME.

Not because I know what the “more” is.

I don’t.

That’s the point.

There are pages we haven’t written.

People we haven’t met.

Conversations we haven’t had.

Places we haven’t gone.

Things we haven’t learned.

Jokes we haven’t laughed at yet.

Prayers whose answers we may not recognize yet.

There is more life we haven’t lived.

So I refuse to let one difficult chapter declare itself the entire book.

Tuesday taught us that.

A marked-up page is not a ruined book.

There are more pages.

🛤️ FORWARD IS A DIRECTION, NOT A SPEED

Wednesday taught us something too.

Progress doesn’t have one acceptable speed.

Forward is a direction.

Not a speed.

You may sprint.

Walk.

Roll.

Crawl.

Pause.

Rest.

Recalculate.

Ask for help.

Change the route.

Start again.

All of it can belong to forward.

Small steps still change lives.

Your pace does not disqualify your possibility.

🎒 TRAVEL LIGHTER

And yesterday?

We sorted some bags.

Some were ours.

Some belonged to God.

Some never belonged to us at all.

Maybe Friday feels different because we aren’t dragging quite as much toward tomorrow.

I don’t need to carry every fear about what might happen.

I don’t need to control every outcome.

I don’t need every answer before I move.

I can do what belongs to me.

Release what doesn’t.

Trust God with what I cannot see.

And leave one chair open.

🔒🔑 BEFORE YOU GO…

Monday, we came wet.

🌧️

We learned we didn’t have to clean up our pain before entering the room.

Tuesday, we came written on.

📖

We learned that yesterday’s writing doesn’t eliminate tomorrow’s possibilities.

Wednesday, we put down the ruler.

📏

We learned that progress still counts when it looks different.

Thursday, we sorted the bags.

🎒

We learned that trust and agency can coexist.

And now Friday.

🪑

No giant declaration.

No guarantee.

No pretending.

Just this:

I haven’t locked tomorrow out.

There is still room for what I cannot see.

There is still room for something I haven’t imagined.

There is still room for another laugh.

Another conversation.

Another dream.

Another beginning.

Another chance.

Another page.

Another door.

Another step.

Another possibility.

Maybe today won’t be perfect.

But it can still be a good step.

So pull up the chair.

Sit for a minute.

Look toward tomorrow.

And beside you—

leave one seat empty.

Not because you know what’s coming.

Because you haven’t decided nothing is.

The chair stays.

And Beloved…

so do you.
