BEGINNING AGAIN DOES NOT ERASE BEFORE

Beloveds,

I know something about beginning again.

I also know beginning again can sound prettier in motivational language than it feels in an actual life.

Sometimes beginning again is exciting.

Sometimes it is infuriating.

Sometimes you are beginning again because you chose something new.

Sometimes life chose it for you.

Those are not the same experience.

I do not need to insult the woman I was before in order to honor the woman I am becoming now.

I do not have to call the old life worthless because the new life requires courage.

I can grieve what changed and still participate in what remains.

I can miss what my body used to do and still love the body carrying me today.

I can remember an easier voice and still claim the voice that is mine now.

I can say, “This is hard,” without translating that sentence into, “This is hopeless.”

Isaiah 43:19 says, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” KJV

My faith tells me God can work in the new.

It does not require me to pretend the old did not matter.

And beloveds who do not believe as I do, there is room for you in this conversation too.

Beginning again belongs to human beings, not only believers.

🔑 The key is not erasing yesterday.

The key is refusing to let yesterday be the only place where your life was allowed to be real.

You matter to me.
