💩 PEARL CLUTCHERS, THIS ONE MAY NOT BE FOR YOU

It’s okay to Make/ Be A Mess Series with Cassandra — Piece One

Beloveds,

We need to talk about 💩.

There.

I said it.

I’ll give the pearl clutchers a moment.

👀

Everybody okay?

Good.

Now let’s talk about dignity.

Because that’s what this is really about.

After my stroke, there have been things about recovery that aren’t particularly inspirational-looking.

There are victories nobody puts on greeting cards.

There are things bodies do that we’d rather not announce.

There are moments when independence and dignity suddenly become very complicated words.

And yes, beloveds…

Sometimes there is 💩.

🤣

I could pretend otherwise.

I could clean up the story before I hand it to you.

Make recovery prettier.

Make myself more comfortable for public consumption.

But what good would that do?

Because somebody reading this has their own mess.

Maybe yours doesn’t require toilet paper.

Maybe your marriage is hurting.

Maybe you’re lonely.

Maybe you’ve made a mistake you’re ashamed of.

Maybe your body has changed.

Maybe depression has made brushing your teeth feel enormous.

Maybe somebody has to help you do something you once did without thinking.

Maybe you’ve hurt somebody and don’t know how to make it right.

Maybe you’re holding together a life that looks perfectly respectable from the sidewalk.

Mess comes in many forms.

And shame loves every last one of them.

🫀 WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS?

Because shame grows beautifully in secrecy.

It whispers:

Don’t let anybody know.

They’ll look at you differently.

You’re supposed to have this together.

Other people don’t struggle like this.

And eventually we don’t merely hide the mess.

We start hiding ourselves.

That’s the part I want us to challenge.

Your humanity is not something you need to apologize for.

And neither is mine.

I am learning that dignity cannot depend upon my body behaving perfectly.

It cannot depend upon how much assistance I need.

It cannot depend upon whether my life looks tidy today.

And your dignity cannot depend upon those things either.

📖 WHY I BELIEVE THAT

Psalm 139:14 says:

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Notice what it doesn’t say.

Fearfully and wonderfully made—as long as nothing embarrassing ever happens.

Nope.

And Romans 8:1 begins with another truth I need sometimes:

“There is therefore now no condemnation…”

I know the theological context is bigger than embarrassment or recovery.

But the principle reminds me of something important:

God is not standing over my humanity with His arms folded, disgusted by me.

So why am I?

And why would I treat somebody else’s vulnerable humanity that way?

👀

🧰 NOW COMES THE HOW

It isn’t enough for us to say:

“Don’t be ashamed.”

Okay.

Lovely.

HOW?

Start by separating:

WHAT HAPPENED

from

WHO I AM.

I had an accident.

That is an event.

I am disgusting is an identity judgment.

I needed help.

That is information.

I am a burden is a conclusion.

I failed at something.

That’s something I did.

I am a failure is something entirely different.

Beloveds, we have got to stop turning difficult moments into definitions of ourselves.

👓 YOUR WORK

Think about something you’ve been ashamed of.

Not necessarily your deepest secret.

We’re not trying to emotionally body-slam ourselves before breakfast. 🤣

Start somewhere safe.

Write two sentences:

What happened: _______

What I decided it meant about me: _______

Then look at that second sentence.

Is it actually true?

Or have you been carrying a verdict that nobody had the authority to hand you?

❤️‍🔥 YOUR LOVE CHALLENGE

Today, protect somebody’s dignity.

Quietly.

No announcement.

No picture.

No Facebook post about what a wonderful human being you were.

🤣

If somebody needs help, help without making them feel small.

If somebody tells you something embarrassing, don’t turn it into entertainment later.

If somebody struggles to do something you can easily do, don’t rush them unnecessarily.

If somebody makes a mistake, correct without humiliating.

And if you are the somebody who needs help?

Here’s your challenge:

Receive one act of kindness without apologizing for needing it.

👀📬

Yes.

That counts as love too.

💞 WHY THIS IS LOVE

Because love doesn’t only show up when people are polished.

Love becomes recognizable when humanity gets inconvenient.

Anybody can say:

“I love people.”

Okay.

What happens when they’re messy?

What happens when they’re slow?

What happens when they’re embarrassed?

What happens when they cannot repay you?

What happens when loving them requires protecting something fragile?

That’s where love stops being a slogan.

That’s where we learn HOW.

🌱 TODAY’S INSPIRATION

Your mess is something you’re experiencing.

It is not your name.

Clean what needs cleaning.

Repair what needs repairing.

Apologize where you need to apologize.

Ask for help where you need help.

Learn what needs learning.

But don’t climb into the trash with what you’re throwing away.

You still belong here.

❤️‍🩹

🙏🏿 FOR THOSE WHO PRAY

Father,

Teach us how to see ourselves and one another with compassion and truth.

Show us where shame has convinced us to hide.

Give us courage to take responsibility where responsibility belongs without condemning ourselves for being human.

Teach us to help without superiority and receive without shame.

And when we encounter somebody in a vulnerable moment, make us safe enough to protect their dignity.

Teach us not merely to talk about love.

Teach us HOW to love.

And Father, as I prepare to begin Outpatient Therapy tomorrow, help me practice these words myself.

When I need assistance, let me receive it.

When something is difficult, keep me from making difficulty a verdict about who I am.

When progress seems small, help me see it.

And when I am tired, remind me:

the woman trying to love Your world is part of Your world too.

Amen.

🌎 FOR MY BELOVEDS WHO DON’T PRAY

You don’t have to believe what I believe to belong in this conversation.

So here’s what I hope you carry today:

May you discover that being human was never something you needed to hide.

May you find people who don’t weaponize your vulnerable moments.

May you become that kind of person for somebody else.

May you take responsibility for what is yours without accepting shame that isn’t.

May you receive help without believing you’ve become less valuable because you needed it.

And may you remember:

Dignity isn’t something you earn by keeping your life tidy.

It belongs to you in the mess too.

❤️‍🩹

🫀 ONE LAST THING

I’m about to begin another chapter of my recovery.

And while I’m doing that work, I wanted to leave some words here that might soothe a soul and maybe change a life or two.

Starting with mine, beloveds.

Because I don’t have to spend my entire recovery proving I’m still a giver.

I already am one.

Maybe part of recovery is discovering that the woman who loves the world…

is part of the world she’s trying to love.

🌎🫀👩🏿‍🦼

So yes.

We started this series talking about 💩.

🤣

Pearl clutchers, you survived.

Tomorrow we graduate to toilet paper.

🧻

And underneath all our foolishness, we’re going to keep asking two questions:

WHY does love matter here?

And:

HOW do we actually do it?

One messy, beautiful, human lesson at a time.

Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

🧻 CLEAN IT UP—WITHOUT THROWING YOURSELF AWAY

It’s Okay to Make/Be a Mess with Cassandra — Piece Two

🫂❤️‍🩹🧸🧻🚿📫

Beloveds,

Yesterday, we established something important:

Sometimes life gets messy.

Sometimes we get messy.

And sometimes?

We make the mess ourselves.

👀

That last one isn’t nearly as comfortable to talk about.

It’s easier to extend ourselves compassion when something happened to us.

But what happens when I did it?

I said the thing.

I made the decision.

I ignored what I knew.

I hurt somebody.

I procrastinated.

I acted out of fear.

I let pride answer before love had a chance.

I knew better…

and beloveds, I still made a mess.

🧻

Now what?

❤️‍🩹 FIRST: DON’T CONFUSE ACCOUNTABILITY WITH SELF-HATRED

We have a strange habit of believing that if we punish ourselves long enough, we’ve somehow proven we’re sorry.

But shame doesn’t necessarily repair anything.

Sometimes it just keeps us staring at ourselves.

Accountability looks outward and asks:

What did my actions affect?

What belongs to me?

What can I repair?

What needs to change?

Those are very different questions from:

What’s wrong with me?

One asks you to grow.

The other sentences you.

Beloveds, we need to learn the difference.

🫀 WHY DOES THIS MATTER?

Because love without accountability eventually becomes permission.

And accountability without compassion eventually becomes punishment.

We need both.

If I hurt you, loving myself doesn’t mean pretending I didn’t.

But loving you doesn’t require me to decide I’m permanently horrible either.

I can say:

I was wrong.

Full stop.

No but you…

No twelve-paragraph defense.

No explanation designed to turn my apology into your fault.

🤣

Just:

I was wrong.

Then comes the important part:

What am I going to do differently?

That’s where apology starts becoming repair.

📖 SCRIPTURE

Proverbs 28:13 teaches that hiding our wrongdoing doesn’t lead us toward flourishing, while confession and turning away from it opens another path.

And James 5:16 tells believers:

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.”

Look at that last word.

Healed.

Not humiliated.

Not permanently branded.

Not publicly destroyed.

Healed.

Truth can participate in healing when we stop using truth as a weapon.

🚿 SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO WASH, NOT WALLOW

There’s a difference.

👀

If you spill something on yourself, you don’t spend seventeen years staring at the stain saying:

Look what I did.

You wash it.

🤣🚿

So why do we sometimes treat emotional mistakes differently?

Yes, examine what happened.

Yes, learn from it.

Yes, make amends where possible.

But eventually?

Wash.

Let remorse accomplish what remorse is supposed to accomplish:

turn you toward something better.

You don’t honor the person you hurt by refusing to heal.

And you don’t undo yesterday by destroying tomorrow.

🧰 THE HOW: CLEANING UP A MESS YOU MADE

Start here:

1. NAME IT.

What did I actually do?

No exaggeration.

No minimizing.

Truth.

2. OWN IT.

What part belongs to me?

Not theirs.

Mine.

3. APOLOGIZE WHEN APPROPRIATE.

Without demanding immediate forgiveness.

An apology isn’t a coupon redeemable for restored access.

👀

4. REPAIR WHAT YOU CAN.

Sometimes words are enough.

Sometimes changed behavior is required.

Usually changed behavior is the better apology anyway.

5. LEARN.

Ask:

What made this possible in me?

Fear?

Pride?

Anger?

Insecurity?

Exhaustion?

A boundary I should have established sooner?

Something I haven’t healed?

Understanding the cause doesn’t excuse the behavior.

It helps prevent the sequel.

🤣

6. MOVE FORWARD DIFFERENTLY.

That’s the point.

Not perfect.

Different.

👓 YOUR WORK

Think of one mess you made that you still carry.

Write:

What I did:

Who or what it affected:

What I can still repair:

What I learned:

What I will do differently next time:

Then add one more:

What I am ready to stop using against myself:

👀❤️‍🩹

Sit with that one.

🫂 TODAY’S LOVE CHALLENGE

Repair one small thing.

Maybe you owe someone an apology.

Maybe you’ve been impatient.

Maybe you’ve neglected somebody.

Maybe you promised something and forgot.

Maybe you’ve been carrying resentment and treating somebody differently without ever telling them why.

Maybe the repair needs to happen inside you.

Do one thing.

Not twenty.

One.

Love becomes believable through practice.

🧸 AND PLEASE BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF

Accountability does not require cruelty.

Imagine someone you deeply love came to you genuinely remorseful and said:

“I messed up.”

Would you scream:

Excellent! Now hate yourself forever!?

🤣

Probably not.

You’d want them to understand.

Repair.

Grow.

Become wiser.

Why should your own mistakes receive none of that humanity?

🌱 TODAY’S INSPIRATION

You are allowed to become wiser than the person who made the mistake.

Read that again.

The fact that you can look backward and say:

I should have done differently

may itself be evidence that something inside you already is different.

Don’t waste that growth by chaining yourself permanently to the person you used to be.

Clean up what belongs to you.

Then keep living.

🙏🏿 FOR THOSE WHO PRAY

Father,

Give us courage to see ourselves truthfully.

Where we have caused harm, make us humble enough to acknowledge it.

Where repair is possible, show us how.

Where pride interferes, soften us.

Where shame tells us we can never become different, remind us of Your grace.

Teach us to extend compassion without escaping accountability.

Teach us to apologize without excuses.

Teach us to forgive without pretending.

Teach us to change.

And Father, while I begin Outpatient Therapy today, help me remember this lesson personally.

There may be things I cannot do yet.

There may be attempts that don’t work.

There may be moments when frustration gets loud.

Help me not turn an unsuccessful attempt into a judgment against myself.

Let me learn.

Let me try.

Let me rest.

Let me receive.

Let me begin again.

Amen.

🌎 FOR MY BELOVEDS WHO DON’T PRAY

You still belong here.

So here’s what I hope for you:

May you have enough courage to admit when you’re wrong without believing wrong is all you are.

May your apologies become changed behavior.

May you repair what can be repaired.

May you accept that some people may need boundaries from you—and respect them.

May you understand yourself more deeply without using understanding as an excuse.

May you stop demanding lifelong punishment for something you’ve genuinely learned from.

And may you give yourself permission to become someone new.

❤️‍🩹 THE WHY AND THE HOW

WHY?

Because love requires truth.

HOW?

Tell it.

Own your part.

Repair what you can.

Change what needs changing.

And then—

beloved—

stop climbing back into the mess just to prove you remember making it.

🧻🚿

Clean it.

Wash.

Learn.

Grow.

Live.

Because it’s okay to make a mess.

It’s okay to be a mess sometimes.

But when the mess belongs to us?

We learn how to clean it up without throwing ourselves away.

❤️‍🔥OPEN YOUR HANDS ❤️‍🔥

AUGUST 23, 2026

OPEN YOUR HANDS ❤️‍🔥

Grace Cannot Be Earned. Love Must Sometimes Be Received.

Beloveds,

We’ve spent several days talking about receiving love.

And after everything we’ve uncovered, I think we’re finally ready for the question underneath all the others:

Can you receive something you cannot repay?

👀❤️‍🔥

Not borrow.

Not earn.

Not exchange.

Not deserve because you’ve been especially good lately.

Not put on layaway. 😭😆

Receive.

That’s it.

And for some of us, that may be one of the hardest things anybody could ask us to do.

Because we’ve learned how to work.

We’ve learned how to survive.

We’ve learned how to give.

We’ve learned how to perform.

We’ve learned how to make ourselves useful.

We’ve learned how to protect ourselves from strings.

We’ve learned how to avoid owing anybody.

We’ve learned how to say:

“I’m good.”

Even when good packed its bags three exits ago.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

But receiving?

Receiving requires open hands.

And some of us have lived with clenched fists for a very long time.

❤️‍🔥 WHY ARE OUR HANDS CLOSED?

Sometimes because we’re afraid.

Sometimes because we’re ashamed.

Sometimes because we’ve been hurt.

Sometimes because gifts have been weaponized against us.

Sometimes because we’ve confused needing help with weakness.

Sometimes because we’ve built our identity around being the giver.

Sometimes because we genuinely don’t know who we are when somebody else is taking care of us.

And sometimes…

we simply don’t believe we’re worthy of what is being offered.

💔

So love comes.

And instead of receiving it, we interrogate it.

Why are you doing this?

Love comes.

We minimize it.

You really didn’t have to.

Love comes.

We apologize.

I’m sorry you had to do all this for me.

Love comes.

We promise repayment.

I’ll make it up to you.

Love comes.

And before it has even finished arriving, we’ve turned it into a debt.

😭❤️‍🔥

Maybe that’s what some of us need to stop doing.

Not because gratitude doesn’t matter.

Gratitude matters enormously.

But gratitude says:

“Thank you for what you’ve given.”

Guilt says:

“I need to get rid of this uncomfortable feeling of having received more than I gave.”

Those are different.

❤️‍🔥 OPEN HANDS CANNOT CONTROL EVERYTHING

This is where receiving becomes frightening.

A clenched fist feels powerful.

I control what stays.

I control what leaves.

I control what gets close.

But an open hand?

An open hand is vulnerable.

An open hand can give.

But an open hand can also receive.

👀❤️‍🔥

Maybe that’s why love requires both.

If my hands are permanently clenched, eventually I cannot receive OR give freely.

Everything becomes control.

Everything becomes accounting.

Everything becomes:

Who owes whom?

But love wasn’t designed to live inside a ledger.

❤️‍🔥

💔 MAYBE YOU REALLY DID NEED THEM

Here’s another sentence some of us struggle to say:

“I needed you.”

Not:

It would’ve been nice if you came.

Not:

I could’ve managed.

Not:

I would’ve figured something out.

Maybe you would have.

That’s not the point.

Maybe the truth is simply:

I needed you.

And you came.

😭❤️‍🔥

Why does admitting that feel so vulnerable?

Because need acknowledges that another person’s presence mattered.

And once somebody matters, we can no longer pretend we’re completely self-contained.

But beloveds…

we were never meant to be self-contained.

Human beings need human beings.

Babies arrive needing somebody.

Children need somebody.

Adults need somebody.

Older people need somebody.

Grieving people need somebody.

Celebrating people need somebody.

Sick people need somebody.

Healthy people need somebody.

Strong people need somebody.

Weak people need somebody.

Even the person who insists:

“I DON’T NEED NOBODY!”

usually needs somebody to hear the announcement.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

We need one another.

Not every person.

Not every relationship.

Not without boundaries.

Not without wisdom.

But we need community.

❤️‍🔥 YOU CAN NEED HELP WITHOUT LOSING YOURSELF

Receiving doesn’t mean surrendering your identity.

Receiving doesn’t mean becoming helpless.

Receiving doesn’t mean abandoning independence.

Receiving doesn’t mean everybody gets unlimited access to your life.

Receiving doesn’t mean you owe somebody control over you.

Receiving simply says:

“There is something I cannot—or should not have to—carry alone right now.”

And then:

“Thank you for helping me carry it.”

That’s it.

❤️‍🔥

No shame ceremony required.

No emotional repayment schedule.

No thirty-page apology.

No:

“Dear everybody, I regret to inform you that I have temporarily become a human being.”

😭😆❤️‍🔥

You were human yesterday too.

You just needed less visible help.

❤️‍🔥 AND THEN THERE IS GRACE

Now we reach the heart of it.

Because everything we’ve been talking about with human love points me toward something much bigger.

Grace.

Grace is difficult for people who need to earn everything.

Because grace refuses our favorite arrangement.

We want:

Work → earn → deserve → receive.

Grace says:

Receive → be changed → respond.

👀🙏🏾❤️‍🔥

Scripture says:

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”
“Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
— Ephesians 2:8–9, KJV

There it is.

Gift.

Not paycheck.

Not trophy.

Not reimbursement.

Gift.

And what do you do with a gift?

You receive it.

😭❤️‍🔥

But some of us keep trying to hand God a résumé.

Look what I’ve done.

Look how hard I’ve tried.

Look how useful I’ve been.

Look how many people I’ve helped.

Look how strong I’ve stayed.

And grace keeps saying:

Put the résumé down.

👀

Because if grace could be earned…

it wouldn’t be grace.

❤️‍🔥 GOD IS NOT RUNNING AN EMOTIONAL COLLECTION AGENCY

Somebody needs this.

We sometimes receive God’s goodness and immediately think:

“Now I owe Him.”

But Christianity isn’t Jesus doing us a favor and then spending eternity saying:

“After everything I did for you…”

💔

No.

Grace changes us precisely because it isn’t manipulation.

We don’t obey because we’re trying to pay Jesus back.

How could we?

What payment would equal the Cross?

What performance settles that account?

There isn’t one.

❤️‍🔥

We respond because love has changed what we desire.

“We love him, because he first loved us.”
— 1 John 4:19, KJV

There is that order again.

He first loved us.

Then…

we love.

Grace comes first.

Response follows.

❤️‍🔥 STOP TRYING TO PAY BACK LOVE. PASS IT ON.

Maybe that’s the shift.

When somebody loves us well, we don’t have to obsess over getting the balance back to zero.

We can allow love to keep moving.

Someone encourages me.

I receive it.

Later, I encourage somebody else.

Someone feeds me when I cannot manage.

I receive it.

Someday I find another way to nourish somebody else.

Someone sits beside me while I cry.

I receive it.

Later, somebody cries beside me…

and I don’t run from their tears.

😭❤️‍🔥

Someone carries me.

I receive it.

Then one day, perhaps in a completely different way…

I carry somebody.

That’s not repayment.

That’s multiplication.

👀❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Love wasn’t returned to sender.

Love kept traveling.

Imagine communities like that.

Nobody keeping perfect score.

Everybody giving according to ability.

Everybody receiving according to need.

Boundaries honored.

Gratitude expressed.

Manipulation rejected.

Shame refused.

People allowed to be human.

🌎❤️‍🔥

One person saying:

“I have extra strength today. Lean on me.”

Another saying:

“Thank you. I need it.”

And nobody losing dignity.

❤️‍🔥 MAYBE THE REAL CHALLENGE ISN’T RECEIVING HELP

Maybe it’s receiving love without editing ourselves first.

Not:

Love me after I get stronger.

Not:

Love me when I’m less complicated.

Not:

Love me once I can give more back.

Not:

Love me when I stop needing so much.

Not:

Love me when I become the old me again.

Just:

Love me here.

😭❤️‍🔥

HERE.

In this body.

In this season.

In this grief.

In this uncertainty.

In this rebuilding.

In this mess.

In this beginning again.

Here.

And perhaps somebody who genuinely loves you is saying:

“That’s exactly where I’ve been trying to love you.”

WHEW.

😭❤️‍🔥

❤️‍🔥 THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE

Today, open your hands.

Literally, if you can.

Look at them.

And ask yourself:

“What love am I resisting because I don’t know how to repay it?”

Then ask:

“What would happen if I simply said thank you?”

No promise.

No apology.

No immediate return favor.

Just:

Thank you.

Let your heart sit there.

❤️ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

Receive one thing today.

A compliment.

Help.

Encouragement.

Prayer.

Time.

Patience.

A hug.

A listening ear.

A kindness.

And instead of saying:

“You shouldn’t have…”

try:

“Thank you. That means a lot to me.”

Then let the moment finish.

Don’t chase love out of the room because receiving it makes you uncomfortable.

❤️‍🔥

🙌 DAILY VICTORY

Today I will remember:

I can receive without becoming entitled.

I can be grateful without becoming indebted.

I can need help without becoming helpless.

I can accept love without surrendering healthy boundaries.

I can be carried without losing my dignity.

And:

I do not have to earn grace.

🙏🏾 MORNING PRAYER

Father,

Our hands are tired.

Some of us have been gripping everything so tightly.

Control.

Independence.

Fear.

Shame.

Old disappointments.

Old promises.

Old wounds.

The need to prove ourselves.

The need to repay everything.

The fear that receiving will make us weak.

Father…

teach us to open our hands.

🙏🏾

Give us discernment about who we trust.

Give us boundaries where boundaries are needed.

Give us courage where fear has isolated us.

Give us humility where pride won’t let us ask.

Give us freedom where shame keeps calling us burdens.

And give us grace to receive love without immediately trying to earn it.

Thank You for the people who come.

Thank You for the people who stay.

Thank You for those who carry what we cannot carry today.

Help us appreciate them without turning ourselves into debts they must collect.

And Father…

thank You for Jesus.

Thank You for grace.

Thank You that salvation isn’t a paycheck we earn.

Thank You that love moved first.

Teach us to receive what You give…

and then allow that love to transform how we love the world.

Amen.

❤️‍🔥🙏🏾

❤️‍🔥 BEFORE WE LEAVE THIS WEEK…

Beloveds,

We started with guilt.

I’m sorry I need you.

Then shame.

Something must be wrong with me because I need you.

Then fear.

What will I owe you?

Then vulnerability.

If I need you, you can hurt me.

Then performance.

If I’m not useful, will you still love me?

And now grace answers all of them:

Open your hands.

😭❤️‍🔥

You do not have to apologize for every need.

You are not your difficult season.

Healthy love isn’t a loan.

Trust can grow wisely.

Your usefulness is not your entire worth.

And genuine grace cannot be purchased.

So maybe our prayer after this whole journey can become very simple:

Father, teach me to receive love without fear, give love without control, and recognize the difference between the two.

And when somebody comes running because we need them…

maybe we stop saying:

“I’m so sorry you had to.”

Maybe we look at them.

Really look.

And say:

“Thank you for coming for me.”

😭❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

No apology attached.

Maybe that’s enough.

Maybe…

that’s receiving.

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO PERFORM TO KEEP YOUR PLACE ❤️‍🔥

AUGUST 22, 2026

YOU DON’T HAVE TO PERFORM TO KEEP YOUR PLACE ❤️‍🔥

Who Are You When You Cannot Earn Love by Being Useful?

Beloveds,

I have another uncomfortable question for us this morning.

👀❤️‍🔥

Have you ever wondered whetherpeople would still love you if you stopped being useful to them?

Not forever.

Just long enough that you couldn’t do what you’ve always done.

You couldn’t fix it.

Couldn’t pay for it.

Couldn’t organize it.

Couldn’t drive everybody.

Couldn’t cook.

Couldn’t clean.

Couldn’t work.

Couldn’t solve the problem.

Couldn’t be everybody’s emergency contact.

Couldn’t be the strong one.

Couldn’t be the person who always says:

“Don’t worry. I got it.”

What happens inside us when suddenly…

we don’t got it?

😭❤️‍🔥

For some of us, that question goes DEEP.

Because somewhere along the way, being helpful became more than something we did.

It became part of how we understood our value.

People needed us.

And being needed felt good.

People called us.

People depended on us.

People knew we would show up.

We were the fixer.

The encourager.

The caregiver.

The provider.

The responsible one.

The strong one.

The prayer warrior.

The funny one.

The one who held everybody together when everything started falling apart.

And without realizing it, we may have developed a quiet equation:

What I do for people = why I matter to people.

👀

That’s dangerous math.

Because eventually life may ask a question we weren’t prepared to answer:

Who are you when you cannot do what you used to do?

💔❤️‍🔥

❤️‍🔥 WHEN USEFULNESS BECOMES IDENTITY

There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping.

Serving is beautiful.

Giving is beautiful.

Caring for people is beautiful.

Working hard is beautiful.

Showing up is beautiful.

Jesus Himself taught us to serve.

But there is a difference between:

“Serving is something I do because I love.”

and:

“Serving is how I make myself worthy of love.”

WHEW.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Those can look exactly the same from the outside.

Both people may cook the meal.

Both may give the ride.

Both may solve the problem.

Both may stay late.

Both may say yes.

But inside?

One person is giving freely.

The other may be quietly asking:

“If I stop doing this, will you still choose me?”

😭

That’s not merely generosity anymore.

That’s an audition.

And beloveds…

you should not have to audition every morning for your place in the hearts of people who genuinely love you.

💔 SOMETIMES WE PERFORM WITHOUT REALIZING IT

Maybe your performance isn’t achievement.

Maybe it’s being agreeable.

You never complain.

Never ask for much.

Never inconvenience anybody.

Never say what you really need.

Because somewhere inside:

Easy people are easier to love.

Maybe your performance is strength.

Nobody gets to see you crumble.

Because:

Strong people don’t scare people away.

Maybe your performance is giving.

You make sure everybody owes you less than you owe them.

Because:

If I’m always contributing, nobody can call me a burden.

Maybe your performance is humor.

Everybody gets the joke.

Nobody gets the tears.

😆💔

Maybe it’s caretaking.

You know everybody else’s needs before they speak them.

But when someone asks:

“What do YOU need?”

your whole brain suddenly goes:

Error 404. Request not found.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

We laugh.

But some of us know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

❤️‍🔥 THEN LIFE CHANGES THE ASSIGNMENT

And this is where things can become painful.

Sometimes life takes away the very thing we used to prove our worth.

The worker can’t work.

The caregiver needs care.

The strong one becomes exhausted.

The healthy one becomes sick.

The person everybody leaned on suddenly needs something to lean against.

The financially secure person struggles.

The confident person loses confidence.

The encourager becomes discouraged.

The person who always had the answers finally whispers:

“I don’t know what to do.”

And if our identity was built entirely around usefulness…

this can feel like more than losing ability.

It can feel like losing value.

😭💔❤️‍🔥

That is where shame sneaks back in.

What good am I now?

What do I bring to anybody?

Everybody has to do things for me.

I’m not contributing enough.

I’m taking more than I’m giving.

They’ll eventually get tired of this.

And there it is again:

Performance.

Except now we’re terrified because we cannot perform at our previous level.

Beloved…

listen carefully.

❤️‍🔥 YOUR CAPACITY CHANGED. YOUR HUMAN VALUE DID NOT.

Those are different things.

Your capacity can fluctuate.

Your productivity can change.

Your income can change.

Your health can change.

Your mobility can change.

Your energy can change.

Your role in a family can change.

Your ability to care for others can change.

Your ability to work can change.

Your ability to contribute in familiar ways can change.

None of those measurements can adequately measure a human soul.

❤️‍🔥

Maybe you cannot give what you once gave.

That does not mean you give nothing.

Your presence matters.

Your story matters.

Your laughter matters.

Your wisdom matters.

Your listening matters.

Your honesty matters.

Your experience matters.

Your prayers matter.

Your affection matters.

Your encouragement matters.

Your existence matters to people who love you.

And sometimes?

You don’t have to produce ANYTHING in a particular moment.

You are allowed to simply be.

😭❤️‍🔥

That word can be terrifying for performers.

BE.

Not accomplish.

Not fix.

Not prove.

Not earn.

Not rescue.

Not impress.

Not compensate.

Just…

be.

❤️‍🔥 LOVE SHOULD HAVE ROOM FOR YOUR HUMANITY

Healthy love does not mean people never have expectations of us.

Relationships require responsibility.

Promises matter.

Commitments matter.

Effort matters.

Reciprocity matters.

This isn’t permission to neglect everybody and announce:

“Well, Cassandra said I don’t have to perform!”

ABSOLUTELY NOT. 😭😆

Don’t put that foolishness on me.

I’m talking about something entirely different.

I’m talking about the belief that:

If I cannot constantly produce value, I cease to HAVE value.

No.

Responsibility says:

“I should contribute according to my ability and commitments.”

Performance-based worth says:

“If my ability decreases, my worth decreases with it.”

That’s the lie we’re confronting.

❤️‍🔥

💔 LET PEOPLE LOVE THE PERSON, NOT JUST THE FUNCTION

This may be one of the hardest parts.

If you have spent years being the helper, people may genuinely love helping YOU.

Read that again.

Someone may feel honored to finally give something back.

Someone may have watched you pour and pour and pour.

And now they get to say:

“Sit down. I’ve got this.”

And your entire nervous system may respond:

ABSOLUTELY NOT. GIVE ME THAT DISH TOWEL.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

Because sitting feels wrong.

Receiving feels wrong.

Not contributing feels wrong.

But perhaps the person helping you isn’t thinking:

Look how useless they are.

Maybe they’re thinking:

“Finally. Let me love you for a minute.”

👀😭❤️‍🔥

And if you constantly snatch the opportunity away because you need to prove you’re still useful…

you may accidentally prevent somebody from expressing their love in the way THEY chose.

Sometimes receiving is generosity too.

Because receiving says:

“I trust your love enough to let you give it.”

❤️‍🔥 YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY RENT FOR YOUR PLACE IN SOMEONE’S HEART

Oh, somebody needs that sentence today.

You do not have to pay emotional rent every month to remain worthy of healthy love.

😭❤️‍🔥

You don’t have to constantly ask:

Have I done enough?

Have I given enough?

Have I been useful enough?

Have I been easy enough?

Have I been strong enough?

Have I caused too much trouble?

Healthy love isn’t a landlord standing at the door on the first of every month:

“Where’s this month’s usefulness?”

😭😆❤️‍🔥

No.

Relationships need nurturing.

But love isn’t supposed to require constant proof that you deserve to exist inside it.

🙏🏾 JESUS AND THE LOVE THAT COMES FIRST

And this is where grace confronts our entire performance system.

Scripture says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
— Romans 5:8, KJV

Notice when the love came.

Not after everything was fixed.

Not after everybody performed beautifully.

Not after humanity finally became impressive enough.

While we were yet sinners.

Love moved first.

❤️‍🔥

And another Scripture says:

“We love him, because he first loved us.”
— 1 John 4:19, KJV

Again…

Look at the order.

He first loved us.

Then love flows from us.

Not:

Perform → earn love → maintain performance → hopefully remain loved.

But:

Loved → receive → become transformed → love flows outward.

😭❤️‍🔥

That order changes everything.

Because service becomes a RESPONSE to love instead of an APPLICATION for love.

WHEW.

Read THAT again.

Service should be a response to love—not an application for love.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

I don’t love so somebody will finally decide I’m valuable.

I love because love has already taught me something about my value and theirs.

I don’t serve God to convince Him to keep me.

I serve because I belong to Him.

I don’t care for people so they will never leave.

I care because loving people is part of who I want to become.

Now giving can breathe.

Now receiving can breathe.

Now love doesn’t have to carry the weight of proving that I deserve to exist.

❤️‍🔥 THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE

Ask yourself:

“What do I believe I must continually DO so people will keep loving me?”

Be specific.

Be honest.

Maybe:

I have to be useful.

I have to be strong.

I have to say yes.

I have to fix everything.

I have to keep everybody happy.

I have to hide my needs.

I have to make people laugh.

I have to never become inconvenient.

Then ask:

“Who would I be if I stopped auditioning?”

👀❤️‍🔥

Sit with that.

❤️ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

Today, allow yourself one moment where you don’t earn your place.

Sit with someone.

Receive a phone call.

Accept a compliment.

Let somebody help.

Laugh.

Rest.

Exist.

And when the voice says:

“You should be doing something…”

answer:

“Being human is something.”

❤️‍🔥

🙌 DAILY VICTORY

Today I will remember:

My usefulness may change.

My capacity may change.

My circumstances may change.

My roles may change.

But I refuse to measure my entire worth by what I can produce for other people.

🙏🏾 MORNING PRAYER

Father,

Some of us have spent years trying to earn what we desperately wanted to receive freely.

Love.

Belonging.

Safety.

Acceptance.

A place.

We became useful.

Strong.

Dependable.

Easy.

Quiet.

Funny.

Productive.

Necessary.

And somewhere along the way, some of us forgot how to simply be Your children.

Teach us.

Help us serve from love instead of serving for love.

Help us give without auditioning.

Help us receive without shame.

Help us rest without believing we’ve become worthless.

Help us recognize the difference between healthy responsibility and desperate performance.

And when our capacity changes, remind us:

Our identity is bigger than our output.

For everyone waking up today wondering:

“What good am I now?”

meet them there.

Remind them that a changed life is still a life.

A changed body is still worthy of dignity.

A changed role does not mean no role.

A person who needs care still has love to give.

And a person who has nothing to give today…

is still a person worth loving today.

Amen.

😭❤️‍🔥

Beloveds,

Maybe you’ve spent your whole life making yourself indispensable because somewhere deep inside you believed:

If they need me enough, they won’t leave me.

But being needed and being loved are not always the same thing.

And perhaps this season is inviting us into something deeper.

Not:

“Keep me because I’m useful.”

But:

“Know me. Love me. Let me know and love you too.”

No audition.

No performance review.

No monthly emotional rent.

Just people learning how to love each other honestly.

Sometimes giving.

Sometimes receiving.

Sometimes carrying.

Sometimes being carried.

And sometimes simply sitting beside one another saying:

“I’m glad you’re here.”

😭❤️‍🔥

Maybe that sentence is enough for today.

You don’t have to perform to keep your place.

And tomorrow…

we bring this whole week home.

Because after guilt…

after shame…

after fear of being a burden…

after strings…

after vulnerability…

after performance…

there remains one final terrifying invitation:

OPEN YOUR HANDS.

Grace cannot be earned.

It can only be received.

👀🙏🏾❤️‍🔥

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

#YourLifeMattersToMe

One step. One step. One step. You are loved. You are NOT alone. Keep on being…YOU! ❤️‍🔥🌎

I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND, SO ARE YOU! 👩‍🦽❤️‍🔥

I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND SO ARE YOU! 👩‍🦽❤️‍🔥

Beloveds,

I have been thinking about the words we use to describe ourselves.

And today, I need to tell you what I see when I look at me.

I’M ABLE.

That does not mean pretending there are things I cannot currently do.

There are.

It does not mean denying that life changed.

It did.

It does not mean I don’t need assistance sometimes, accommodations sometimes, different tools sometimes, more time sometimes, or another person beside me sometimes.

I do.

But somewhere along the way, we started confusing needing a different way with having no way at all.

👀 Read that again.

Different is not less.
Assistance is not absence of ability.

Adaptation is not defeat.

And needing help does not erase what I CAN do.

I use a wheelchair. But, mostly, my trusty quad cane. I do. NOT feel bad about needing them

Still, I’m able. 👩‍🦽

I have had to relearn things I once did without thinking.

And, I’m able.

Sometimes my body requires creativity where it once required instinct.

Still able.

Sometimes somebody has to help me.

STILL. ABLE.

Because ability doesn’t disappear simply because it changes clothes.

Maybe I cannot do something the way I did before.

Okay.

Then the question becomes:

How CAN I do it now? 🔑

That question has changed something in me.

Instead of standing at the graveyard of everything that changed, I am learning to walk—roll, crawl, adapt, laugh, pray, improvise, whatever it takes—toward everything that remains possible.

And there is SO MUCH POSSIBLE. 🌳🍇

Beloveds, maybe somebody has spent too much time telling you what you cannot do.

Maybe life changed your body.

Maybe age changed your pace.

Maybe illness changed your routine.

Maybe grief changed your capacity.

Maybe circumstances changed the route you thought you would travel.

Maybe you need accommodations.

Maybe you need somebody’s hand.

Maybe your victory looks completely different from somebody else’s.

SO WHAT?!!

We are done measuring human worth by independence.

We are done treating help like humiliation.

We are done believing there is only one respectable way to move through this world.

And we are definitely done allowing the things that became difficult to introduce themselves as the definition of who we are.

No.

👓 Look again.

I am not a list of things that became harder.

I am a whole human being discovering new ways to live.

I am learning.

I am adapting.

I am creating.

I am loving.

I am writing.

I am laughing.

I am reaching.

I am recovering.

I am becoming.

I am planting. 🌳

I am eating the grapes. 🍇🤣

I am finding keys to doors I once thought were permanently locked. 🔑

And sometimes I’m rolling through those doors instead of walking through them.

BABY, THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. 👩‍🦽💃❤️‍🔥

And yours may be too.

So don’t let anybody—including the frightened voice inside your own head—reduce your entire existence to what you cannot do today.

Ask another question:

WHAT CAN I DO?

Then ask:

WHAT CAN I LEARN?

Then:

WHAT CAN I ADAPT?

And finally:

WHO MIGHT I BECOME IF I STOPPED MEASURING MY FUTURE BY YESTERDAY’S METHODS?

Whew. ❤️‍🔥

Beloveds, ability comes in more forms than we were taught to recognize.

Sometimes strength stands.

Sometimes strength sits.

Sometimes strength runs.

Sometimes strength rolls.

Sometimes strength speaks loudly.

Sometimes strength struggles to get the sentence out—and finishes it anyway.

Sometimes strength does everything alone.

And sometimes the bravest, strongest words in the room are:

“I need some help.”

All of it counts.

So today I’m changing the emphasis.

Don’t look at me and only see what changed.

👀 LOOK AT WHAT REMAINED.

Better yet—

LOOK AT WHAT IS GROWING. 🌳🌳🌳

I’m able, beloveds.

AND SO ARE YOU. ❤️‍🔥

Now let’s find out what our able looks like.

One step.

One adaptation.

One grape.

One key.

One gloriously unconventional way forward at a time. 🔑🍇🌳👩‍🦽💃

Keep on being…YOU!

Unapologetically His. ❤️‍🔥

Unapologetically yours.

IAM HERE!

I. AM. HERE! 👩‍🦽❤️‍🔥👑
Beloveds,
Look at this picture.

No—really.

LOOK.

I am standing.

But this post isn’t about standing.

Because some of us have spent far too long measuring life by what our bodies can do, what we’ve lost, what has changed, what takes longer now, or what somebody else thinks recovery is supposed to look like.

This picture says something much simpler.

I. AM. HERE.
Not the woman I was before everything changed.

Not some imaginary future version of me who has finally recovered enough to deserve celebration.

ME.

Here.

Now.

Alive.

Learning.

Growing.

Laughing.

Crying sometimes.

Getting frustrated sometimes.

Needing help sometimes.

Doing things differently sometimes.

And still completely, undeniably ME.

👩‍🦽❤️‍🔥

I have learned something about survival:

Sometimes we become so focused on getting back to where we were that we miss the miracle of discovering who we are becoming.

I don’t want to spend my life waiting to celebrate myself until everything works the way it once did.

I don’t want to postpone joy until recovery checks every box.

And I refuse to treat my life today like a waiting room for a supposedly better life tomorrow.

THIS IS MY LIFE.

And I am living it.

My wheelchair doesn’t erase me.

Needing assistance doesn’t erase me.

Doing something differently doesn’t make the accomplishment smaller.

A difficult day doesn’t cancel my progress.

And what my body cannot do today does not get to write the definition of who I am.

Different is not less.

Please hear that, beloveds.
Because maybe your life changed too.

Maybe your body changed.

Your family changed.

Your career changed.

Your plans changed.

Your finances changed.

Your relationships changed.

Your confidence changed.

Maybe something happened that divided your life into before and after.

And maybe you’ve been staring backward, wondering when you’re finally going to feel like yourself again.

What if becoming yourself again doesn’t mean becoming exactly who you were?

What if there is still life here?
Love here.

Purpose here.

Laughter here.

Beauty here.

Growth here.

God here.

YOU here.

Jesus/The Father has been teaching me that I do not have to despise today’s Cassandra while waiting for tomorrow’s Cassandra.

I can love her now.

Celebrate her now.

Take her picture now.

Let her laugh now.

Let her dream now.

Let her live now.

Because she did not disappear when her circumstances changed.

And neither did you.

“I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.” — Psalm 118:17 KJV

That scripture hits differently these days…

I SHALL LIVE.

Not merely exist.

Not merely endure.

Not merely spend every day cataloging what changed.

LIVE.

🌳 Grow.

🍇 Taste what is still good.

💃 Dance however dancing looks today.

🔑 Open the doors that are in front of you instead of spending your whole life staring at the ones that closed.

❤️‍🔥 Love fiercely.

👑 Remember your worth.

And when fear, grief, shame, comparison, disability, disappointment, or somebody else’s expectations try to reduce your entire existence to what you cannot do—
look them square in the face and say:

I. AM. HERE.

I am not an inconvenience.

I am not yesterday’s version of myself gone wrong.

I am not a list of limitations.

I am not waiting for permission to call this life beautiful.

I survived enough to get HERE.

And HERE deserves my presence.

HERE deserves my gratitude.

HERE deserves my laughter.

HERE deserves my dreams.

HERE deserves my love.

And HERE deserves yours too.

So today’s challenge is ridiculously simple:

Show up for the life you actually have.

Not someday.

Not when everything gets fixed.

Not when you finally feel ready.

Today.

Take the picture.

Eat the grape. 🍇

Laugh loudly.

Use the help.

Try again.

Rest when you need to.

Celebrate the inch instead of mourning the mile.

And beloved—

BE HERE.

Because you are still becoming.

And your story is still moving.
🎬

IF I NEED YOU, YOU CAN HURT ME 💔❤️‍🔥

AUGUST 21, 2026

IF I NEED YOU, YOU CAN HURT ME 💔❤️‍🔥

When Independence Becomes Armor

Beloveds,

Yesterday we talked about strings attached.

Today I want to go underneath the strings.

Because sometimes:

“I don’t want to owe anybody”

isn’t the deepest truth.

Sometimes underneath it is:

“I don’t want to need anybody.”

And underneath THAT?

Sometimes there is a frightened little sentence we rarely say aloud:

“Because if I need you…you can hurt me.”

😭💔❤️‍🔥

There it is.

Need creates vulnerability.

Vulnerability creates possibility.

If I let you matter to me, you could disappoint me.

If I trust you, you could betray that trust.

If I depend on you for something important, you could fail to show up.

If I tell you what hurts, you could mishandle it.

If I let you see me weak, you could judge me.

If I let you help me, you could someday use that help against me.

If I love you deeply enough…

I could lose you.

And suddenly independence starts looking less like personality and more like protection.

👀❤️‍🔥

Some of us became very good at saying:

“I got it.”

We got it when we were exhausted.

We got it when we were overwhelmed.

We got it when we were drowning.

We got it when we desperately wished somebody would notice that we absolutely, positively, most certainly did NOT have it.

😭

But asking felt scarier than struggling.

So:

I got it.

Don’t worry about me.

I’m fine.

I’ll figure it out.

No, really, I’m good.

Meanwhile…

NOT GOOD.

😩😆❤️‍🔥

But independent!

Lord, apparently we were going to collapse with excellent attendance.

😭😆

And sometimes people praised us for it.

“You’re so strong.”

“You always figure things out.”

“I don’t know how you do it.”

And maybe we smiled.

But somewhere underneath that compliment was another reality:

I learned how to survive without expecting anybody to catch me.

💔

That’s different.

❤️‍🔥 SOMETIMES “STRONG” IS A SURVIVAL SKILL

Strength is beautiful.

Independence can be healthy.

Competence is good.

Learning to take care of ourselves matters.

This is NOT an argument for helplessness.

But there is a difference between:

“I can do many things for myself.”

and:

“I must never need anyone.”

One is independence.

The other can become isolation.

One says:

“I am capable.”

The other says:

“Depending on people is too dangerous.”

And beloveds, sometimes we don’t even realize which one we’re living.

❤️‍🔥

We simply notice that asking for help makes us uncomfortable.

Receiving makes us suspicious.

Depending on somebody makes us anxious.

And when somebody gets too close to the places where we’re struggling, we instinctively pull back.

Because maybe somewhere inside we’ve decided:

Nobody can abandon a need they never knew I had.

WHEW.

😭❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Read that again.

Nobody can disappoint me if I never expect anything.

Nobody can refuse me if I never ask.

Nobody can fail to show up if I never invite them.

Nobody can mishandle my vulnerability if I never show it.

Nobody can leave me exposed if I never lean.

That strategy works.

Sort of.

It can protect us from certain kinds of hurt.

But it has a terrible side effect:

Nobody gets to fully love us there either.

💔

Because the walls that keep pain out can also keep tenderness from getting in.

And sometimes we stand behind those walls asking:

“Why does nobody really know me?”

while simultaneously making sure nobody gets close enough to find out.

👀

That’s not condemnation.

That’s something to notice with compassion.

Maybe those walls once helped us survive.

Maybe we needed them.

Maybe they were built after real hurt.

We don’t have to hate ourselves for protecting ourselves.

But eventually we may need to ask:

Is this wall still protecting me—or is it preventing me from living?

❤️‍🔥

💔 NEEDING SOMEONE MEANS THEY MATTER

And that’s scary.

Because once somebody matters, their absence matters too.

Their choices matter.

Their words matter.

Their presence matters.

Their silence can matter.

Their leaving can hurt.

And some of us quietly decided:

Never again.

Never again will I give somebody that much access.

Never again will I need somebody that badly.

Never again will I let somebody’s presence become important enough that their absence could devastate me.

So we become self-contained.

Safe.

Controlled.

And sometimes…

lonely.

😭

Not because nobody loves us.

But because we haven’t allowed ourselves to receive enough love to experience being held by it.

❤️‍🔥 BUT RECEIVING DOESN’T REQUIRE GIVING SOMEBODY YOUR WHOLE LIFE

This matters.

Learning to receive does NOT mean handing everybody unrestricted access to you.

Trust should grow.

Character matters.

Patterns matter.

Boundaries matter.

Discernment matters.

You do not owe vulnerability to everybody who asks for it.

❤️‍🔥

Healthy vulnerability isn’t:

“Everybody gets all of me.”

Healthy vulnerability says:

“I can gradually allow trustworthy people to know the real me.”

That’s different.

Maybe today you let somebody help with something small.

Maybe tomorrow you tell somebody:

“Actually, today has been difficult.”

Maybe next week you ask:

“Could you come with me?”

Maybe eventually you become able to say:

“I’m scared.”

Four letters.

One terrifying little word.

HELP.

And perhaps the bravest thing you do that day isn’t accomplishing something alone.

Perhaps it’s letting somebody answer.

😭❤️‍🔥

❤️‍🔥 WHAT IF THEY DON’T COME?

There’s the question.

Because sometimes we ask…

and people don’t come.

Sometimes people disappoint us.

Sometimes somebody promises something and doesn’t follow through.

Sometimes relationships end.

Sometimes people we desperately wanted to stay cannot—or choose not to.

Receiving love does not guarantee we will never hurt again.

That’s the risk.

❤️‍🔥

But healing doesn’t mean creating a life where nobody can ever hurt us.

That would require creating a life where nobody can ever truly reach us.

Healing may instead mean learning:

If somebody disappoints me, I can grieve it without deciding everybody will.

If somebody leaves, I can mourn without deciding nobody stays.

If one relationship was unsafe, I can learn discernment without declaring all love unsafe.

And perhaps most importantly:

I can survive disappointment without making isolation my permanent home.

😭❤️‍🔥

🙏🏾 AND THEN THERE IS GOD.

Some of us bring these same fears into faith.

People disappointed us.

So somewhere inside we wonder:

Will You too?

People left.

Will You?

People promised.

Can I trust Your promises?

People saw our weakness and judged us.

What happens when You see all of me?

Scripture gives us this:

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
— 1 Peter 5:7, KJV

Look at that word:

Casting.

That’s movement.

Something leaves my hands.

I have to release enough control to let Someone else carry what I’ve been clutching.

And why?

“For he careth for you.”

😭❤️‍🔥

Not because you performed perfectly.

Not because you never needed anything.

Not because you remained impressively independent.

Because He cares.

And Scripture says:

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
— Psalm 46:1, KJV

A present help.

Not a distant observer applauding how independently we struggle.

HELP.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Maybe we’ve spent years asking God to make us strong enough not to need anybody.

And perhaps sometimes His answer looks like:

“I sent somebody.”

👀😭

Maybe the phone call was part of the answer.

Maybe the ride was part of the answer.

Maybe the meal was part of the answer.

Maybe the person sitting quietly beside you was part of the answer.

Maybe the person who said:

“I’ll go with you”

was part of the answer.

And because we expected strength to feel like needing less, we almost missed that sometimes strength looks like receiving what arrived.

❤️‍🔥 YOU CAN BE STRONG AND STILL LEAN

A tree can be strong and still need soil.

A body can be strong and still need food.

A heart can be strong and still need connection.

A human being can be strong and still say:

“Please stay with me awhile.”

😭

Maybe maturity isn’t:

“I don’t need anybody.”

Maybe maturity sounds more like:

“I know what I can carry. I know what I cannot. I know who has earned my trust. I know when to ask. I know how to receive. And I know that needing love does not make me weak.”

THAT is strength.

❤️‍🔥

❤️‍🔥 THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE

Ask yourself today:

“Where have I confused independence with protection?”

Then ask:

“What am I afraid would happen if I let somebody help me here?”

Don’t rush the answer.

Don’t shame the answer.

Just tell yourself the truth.

Sometimes healing begins when we finally name what the armor was protecting.

❤️ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

Choose one trustworthy person.

Not everybody.

One.

Practice one small act of vulnerability.

Maybe:

“Could you help me with this?”

“Can you call me later?”

“Today is harder than I’m letting on.”

“Would you pray for me?”

“Could you sit with me awhile?”

Then allow them the dignity of choosing their response.

You are not demanding love.

You are giving love somewhere to land.

❤️‍🔥

🙌 DAILY VICTORY

Today I will remember:

Asking is not weakness.

Receiving is not surrender.

Trust does not require blindness.

And needing another human being does not erase my strength.

🙏🏾 MORNING PRAYER

Father,

Some of us became independent because independence felt safer than disappointment.

You know why.

You know every time someone didn’t come.

Every promise that broke.

Every need we learned to hide.

Every moment we decided:

I’ll just do it myself.

Thank You for the strength that helped us survive.

But Father, if our survival strategies have become walls, show us gently.

Teach us discernment without isolation.

Boundaries without bitterness.

Strength without armor.

Vulnerability without foolishness.

Community without losing ourselves.

And dependence upon You without shame.

Help us recognize trustworthy hands.

Help us become trustworthy hands for others.

And when love comes toward us…

give us courage not to run.

Amen.

❤️‍🔥

Beloveds,

Maybe you don’t actually fear needing people.

Maybe you fear what needing them gives them the power to do.

If that’s you…

I understand.

But perhaps healing isn’t learning how to never need again.

Perhaps healing is learning:

who is safe to need,

how much to entrust,

when to ask,

how to keep healthy boundaries,

and—

perhaps hardest of all—

how to remain open to love even though love can never come with a guarantee that we will never hurt.

😭❤️‍🔥

Because yes…

if I love you, you might hurt me.

If I need you, you might disappoint me.

If I trust you, I take a risk.

But if I close every door…

I also risk missing the people standing outside saying:

“You don’t have to do this alone.”

Maybe today…

we crack the door.

Just a little.

❤️‍🔥

Tomorrow we’re going somewhere else entirely:

Who are you when you cannot earn your place by being useful?

Because some of us aren’t merely afraid of receiving.

We’re afraid that if we stop performing…

people might stop loving us.

👀😭❤️‍🔥

We’re going there.

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION, BELOVEDS. 🛌❤️‍🔥

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION, BELOVEDS. 🛌❤️‍🔥

Beloveds,

Give yourself permission.

I’m learning how.

I’m tired.

I’m recovering.

And apparently, after everything life has taught me about surviving, pushing, helping, producing, showing up, loving people and continuing when I didn’t think I had anything left…

I now have to learn something that sounds ridiculously simple:

How to rest.

Not collapse.

Not finally stop because my body leaves me no other choice.

Not lie down while my mind keeps working three shifts.

Not “rest” while feeling guilty about everything I’m not accomplishing.

Actually.

Rest.

🛌

And I am learning that those are very different things.

Sometimes we become so accustomed to surviving that stopping feels irresponsible.

We tell ourselves:

One more thing.

One more person needs me.

One more message.

One more problem.

One more task.

One more grape.

Okay, perhaps that last one is just me. 🍇😄

But eventually our bodies, minds, and hearts begin whispering what we have been too busy to hear:

I’m tired.

And Beloveds, perhaps those aren’t words we need to be ashamed of.

I’m tired.

I’m not feeling my best. ⛑️🤒

I need rest.

Those aren’t declarations of defeat.

They are information.

And I’m learning to listen.

Because somewhere inside me, I think I learned how to respect everybody else’s needs before I learned how to respect my own.

I could understand why you needed a break.

I could encourage you to slow down.

I could tell you that your worth wasn’t measured by productivity.

Then Jesus/The Father turned those words around and handed them back to me.

“It’s okay, Cassandra.”

😭❤️

It’s okay to stop.

It’s okay not to produce today.

It’s okay if somebody else carries something.

It’s okay if the world keeps turning without my supervision. 😄🌎

It’s okay if healing sometimes looks like doing absolutely nothing impressive.

It’s okay if today’s victory is:

I listened when my body said enough.

👩‍🦽🛌

And perhaps somebody reading this needs permission too.

So here.

Take some of mine.

You may rest.

You don’t have to finish everything first.

You don’t have to deserve it.

You don’t have to become completely exhausted before rest becomes legitimate.

You don’t have to explain why you’re tired.

You don’t have to apologize because your capacity today isn’t what it was yesterday.

And you certainly don’t have to compare your need for rest with somebody else’s.

Your body is yours.

Your mind is yours.

Your circumstances are yours.

Listen to them.

❤️‍🔥

Rest is not necessarily what happens when strength runs out.

Sometimes rest is how we honor the strength we still have.

👀

That is something I’m learning in recovery.

I spent so much time looking at what my body could and couldn’t do.

Could I move this?

Could I accomplish that?

Could I regain this?

Could I push a little harder?

But maybe another recovery question deserves equal space:

Can I hear myself when I need tenderness?

Can I stop without calling myself lazy?

Can I receive care without calling myself burdensome?

Can I leave something unfinished without turning unfinished into failure?

Can I believe that my life still matters when I am producing absolutely nothing?

I’m learning.

🍇

One little grape at a time.

And today one of those grapes is:

Rest before you have completely emptied yourself.

Maybe that’s wisdom.

Maybe that’s healing.

Maybe that’s another chain breaking.

⛓️

Because we don’t have to spend our lives proving how much we can endure.

Sometimes courage says:

Keep going.

And sometimes courage whispers:

“That’s enough for today.”

🥰

📖 “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 (KJV)

Notice that.

“I will give you rest.”

A gift.

And gifts are meant to be received.

Oh.

There is that word again.

Receive.

❤️‍🔥

Maybe receiving love and receiving rest aren’t as different as I thought.

Both require open hands.

Both require me to stop proving.

Both ask me to believe I am worthy of care even when I am not the one providing it.

So today I’m practicing.

No grand accomplishment.

No heroic recovery story.

Just:

“It’s okay, Cassandra.”

And me finally answering:

“Okay. I believe You.”

👑❤️

Beloveds, perhaps you can give yourself permission too.

Rest.

Breathe.

Receive.

Let something remain unfinished.

The world does not need you destroyed in order to prove that you cared about it.

🌎❤️

You matter while you’re working.

You matter while you’re helping.

You matter while you’re creating.

And yes—

you matter while you’re asleep.

🛌

Give yourself permission, beloveds.

I’m learning how too.

One step.

One breath.

One grape.

🍇

And sometimes…

one beautiful, unapologetic nap.

😴💃

LOVE IS NOT A LOAN ❤️‍🔥

AUGUST 20, 2026

LOVE IS NOT A LOAN ❤️‍🔥

When Ki1ndness Makes Us Look for the Strings Attached

Beloveds,

Can we talk about something uncomfortable this morning?

Sometimes somebody does something genuinely kind for us…

and instead of relaxing into the kindness, our minds immediately start looking for the price tag.

👀

What do they want?

What am I going to owe them?

When are they going to bring this back up?

Are they going to use this against me later?

How quickly can I repay them so we’re even again?

And sometimes the person hasn’t asked us for a single thing.

They simply loved us.

But somewhere inside, we’re already reaching for the emotional calculator.

😭❤️‍🔥

Because some of us have learned—through experience, observation, disappointment, or simply years of trying to protect ourselves—that receiving can feel dangerous.

Maybe somebody once gave to you and reminded you of it every chance they got.

Maybe kindness was used as leverage.

Maybe help came with expectations nobody mentioned until later.

Maybe somebody’s generosity eventually became:

“After everything I’ve done for you…”

Whew.

That sentence has wounded a lot of people.

💔❤️‍🔥

Because suddenly what we thought was a gift gets rewritten as a debt.

Something freely offered becomes evidence in a future argument.

And after experiencing enough of that, we learn:

Don’t owe anybody anything.

So we become excellent at giving.

We pay our own way.

We solve our own problems.

We don’t ask.

We don’t need.

We don’t receive.

Or, if we absolutely must receive, we immediately begin planning how to pay it back.

Not always because we’re ungrateful.

Sometimes because we’re scared.

❤️‍🔥

We don’t want anybody holding anything over our heads.

So our independence becomes armor.

“If I never need you, you can never say I owe you.”

👀❤️‍🔥

There it is.

But beloveds…

what protects us from manipulation can also prevent us from experiencing genuine generosity.

Because not everybody who gives is keeping score.

Not everybody helping you is building leverage.

Not every kindness is a contract.

Not every gift has an invisible repayment schedule.

And healthy love doesn’t require us to spend the rest of our lives proving we deserved what somebody freely chose to give.

Love is not a loan.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Now let’s be clear.

Healthy relationships involve reciprocity.

We should care about the people who care about us.

We should notice their needs.

We should appreciate sacrifice.

We should contribute where and when we can.

We should not become entitled to somebody else’s time, energy, money, attention, labor, or care.

But reciprocity and repayment are different.

Reciprocity says:

“Because I love you too, your wellbeing matters to me.”

Repayment says:

“You did three things for me, therefore I must do three things for you before I can feel safe again.”

One is relationship.

The other is bookkeeping.

👀

And some of us have been running emotional accounting departments for YEARS.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

She drove me twice, so I need to do something.

He paid last time, so now I owe.

They stayed with me when I was struggling, so I need to make myself useful.

They’ve helped me too much. I need to stop needing anything.

Beloved…

CLOSE THE SPREADSHEET.

😆❤️‍🔥

Love is getting audited every quarter and would like to file a complaint.

Because healthy love isn’t:

You gave me 47 minutes Tuesday, therefore I owe you 47 minutes Thursday plus interest.

Love moves.

Sometimes unevenly.

Sometimes wildly unevenly.

Sometimes one person has almost nothing to give for a season.

And the other carries more.

Then life turns.

And perhaps years later, the person who once carried you finds themselves needing somewhere to rest.

And because you understand love differently now, you don’t pull out the old ledger.

You pull out a chair.

“Sit down. I’ve got you.”

😭❤️‍🔥

That’s relationship.

That’s community.

That’s how human beings survive difficult seasons.

❤️‍🔥 BUT WHAT ABOUT STRINGS?

This matters.

Because sometimes strings are attached.

We shouldn’t pretend manipulation doesn’t exist.

Sometimes people really do use giving as control.

Sometimes somebody offers help and later weaponizes it.

Sometimes generosity is used to purchase access, obedience, silence, loyalty, affection, or control.

That isn’t healthy generosity.

And learning to receive love doesn’t mean abandoning discernment.

You are allowed to have boundaries.

You are allowed to ask questions.

You are allowed to say no.

You are allowed to notice patterns.

You are allowed to decide that a particular person’s “help” consistently costs more emotionally than you’re willing to pay.

❤️‍🔥

Receiving does NOT mean becoming defenseless.

But discernment asks:

“Is this safe and healthy?”

Fear asks:

“How do I make sure I never need anybody again?”

Those are different questions.

One protects us.

The other can imprison us.

💔

Because if our solution to having once received unhealthy love is:

“I will never receive anything from anybody,”

then the people who manipulated us in the past are still influencing the relationships we’re trying to build today.

👀❤️‍🔥

Read that one again.

Sometimes yesterday’s strings teach us to distrust today’s open hands.

And healing may require learning to tell the difference.

❤️‍🔥 A GIFT IS ALLOWED TO BE A GIFT

This is one of the hardest lessons for people who are accustomed to earning everything:

Someone can simply choose to bless you.

Someone can buy lunch because they wanted to.

Someone can drive you because they wanted to.

Someone can sit with you because they wanted to.

Someone can pray for you because they wanted to.

Someone can rearrange their afternoon because they decided:

“This person matters to me.”

And you don’t have to argue with their decision.

😭❤️‍🔥

You can say:

Thank you.

That’s it.

No:

I’m so sorry.

No:

I’ll make it up to you.

No:

You didn’t have to.

Although—let’s be honest—that last one flies out of some of our mouths before our brains even clock in for work. 😭😆

YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO!

Exactly.

Perhaps that’s what makes it love.

They didn’t have to.

They chose to.

❤️‍🔥

What if instead of saying:

“You didn’t have to do that!”

we occasionally tried:

“You didn’t have to do that. And I’m deeply grateful that you chose to.”

Feel the difference?

One almost pushes the gift backward.

The other receives it.

🙏🏾 AND THEN THERE IS GRACE.

This is where my faith challenges me deeply.

Because grace doesn’t operate like wages.

Scripture says:

“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.”
— Romans 4:4, KJV

Debt says:

You earned this.

Grace says:

Receive.

And some of us are far more comfortable with debt than grace because debt lets us believe we’re still in control.

If I earned it, nobody gave me anything.

If I paid for it, I owe nobody.

If I deserved it, I never had to experience the vulnerability of receiving.

But grace says:

Open your hands.

😭❤️‍🔥

And perhaps learning to receive healthy human love can teach our hearts something about receiving divine grace too.

Not earning.

Not bargaining.

Not keeping score.

Receiving.

Then allowing gratitude to transform how we love others.

Because grace doesn’t make us selfish.

Grace teaches us generosity.

When we finally understand:

“I received something I couldn’t possibly repay,”

we stop demanding repayment from everybody else.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Maybe that’s why this conversation matters so much.

We’re not merely learning how to accept help.

We’re learning a different economy of love.

Not:

debt → payment → balance zero.

But:

love → gratitude → love flowing outward again.

Not necessarily back to the same person.

Not necessarily in the same amount.

Not necessarily tomorrow.

Just love continuing its journey.

Someone carries me.

Eventually I become strong enough to carry somebody else.

They carry somebody.

That person carries another.

And suddenly what began as one act of kindness becomes a whole community where people are allowed to need one another.

🌎❤️‍🔥

THAT’S the kind of world I want.

❤️‍🔥 THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE

Today, notice what happens inside you when somebody offers something.

Do you immediately think:

“What will I owe?”

Don’t judge yourself.

Just notice.

Then ask:

“Has this person actually attached a condition—or is an old fear attaching one for them?”

That’s discernment.

❤️ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

Receive one small kindness today without immediately returning it.

A compliment.

A held door.

A phone call.

A meal.

A favor.

A prayer.

Help.

Whatever comes.

Say:

“Thank you. I appreciate that.”

And stop.

No repayment plan.

No apology.

No emotional invoice.

Just receive.

🙌 DAILY VICTORY

Today I will remember:

Gratitude is not indebtedness.

I can appreciate someone’s sacrifice without turning myself into their debtor.

🙏🏾 MORNING PRAYER

Father,

Some of us have learned to fear receiving because receiving has not always felt safe.

Some of us remember strings.

Some remember manipulation.

Some remember hearing:

“After everything I’ve done for you…”

And those memories taught us to keep our hands closed.

Give us wisdom.

Not naïveté.

Not suspicion of everybody.

Wisdom.

Teach us to recognize healthy love.

Teach us boundaries where love is unhealthy.

Teach us gratitude where love is genuine.

And teach us how to receive without immediately trying to earn our way out of being loved.

When You send good people into our lives, help us recognize them.

When someone freely chooses to help us, help us honor their choice.

And when fear whispers:

“You owe them now,”

help us ask whether that voice is telling the truth.

Most of all, teach us grace.

Your love cannot be reduced to a transaction.

Help us receive it.

And then help us give from the abundance of having been loved.

Amen.

❤️‍🔥

Beloveds…

Perhaps somebody is loving you right now.

And you’ve been so busy searching their hands for strings that you haven’t noticed:

their hands may simply be open.

👀😭❤️‍🔥

Look carefully.

Use wisdom.

Keep your boundaries.

But when genuine love comes…

let it come.

You don’t have to turn every gift into a debt.

You don’t have to turn every kindness into obligation.

You don’t have to pay interest on affection.

Sometimes love really is saying:

“This is for you.”

And your whole assignment is:

Receive it.

Tomorrow we’re going deeper.

Because underneath “I don’t want to owe anybody” sometimes lives an even more frightening confession:

“If I let myself need you, you have the power to hurt me.”

👀💔❤️‍🔥

We’ll talk about that.

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE A BURDEN? ❤️‍🔥

AUGUST 19, 2026

WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE A BURDEN? ❤️‍🔥

When Needing Help Starts Feeling Like Something Is Wrong With Us

Beloveds,

I want to ask you something this morning.

And I don’t want the quick answer.

I want the answer underneath the answer.

Who taught you that needing somebody made you a burden?

👀❤️‍🔥

Because somewhere along the way, many of us stopped saying:

“I need help.”

And started saying:

“I’m a problem.”

Those are NOT the same sentence.

One describes a need.

The other attacks a person.

One says:

“There is something I cannot carry alone right now.”

The other says:

“There is something wrong with me because I cannot carry it alone.”

And beloveds, that little change in language can reveal a whole lot of buried shame.

😭❤️‍🔥

Maybe life changed.

Your body changed.

Your finances changed.

Your marriage changed.

Your family changed.

Your job disappeared.

Your grief became heavier than you expected.

Your mind became exhausted.

Your confidence collapsed.

Your independence changed.

Maybe something you have done effortlessly for years suddenly became difficult.

And now somebody has to help.

That’s already hard.

But then shame arrives carrying a microphone.

📢 Look at you.

Everybody has to stop what they’re doing because of YOU.

You’re making their lives harder.

They must be tired of you.

You used to handle this yourself.

What happened to you?

You’re a burden.

Beloveds…

WHO SAID THAT?

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

And more importantly:

Why did we believe it?

There is an enormous difference between acknowledging that caring for us sometimes costs other people something and deciding that because love costs something, we are too costly to love.

Read that slowly.

Love having a cost does not mean YOU are too costly to love.

People we love require things from us.

Time.

Patience.

Listening.

Driving.

Waiting.

Forgiving.

Helping.

Sitting.

Showing up.

Sometimes cleaning up.

Sometimes rearranging plans.

Sometimes simply staying when leaving would be easier.

That’s relationship.

That’s humanity.

That’s community.

❤️‍🔥

But shame takes a normal human reality—

“Someone sacrificed something to help me”

—and turns it into a verdict:

“Therefore I am a burden.”

No.

Let’s separate those things.

Someone can be tired and still love you.

Someone can be inconvenienced and still choose you.

Someone can need a break and still want you in their life.

Someone can have boundaries and still care deeply.

Someone can occasionally feel frustrated without secretly wishing you would disappear.

👀❤️‍🔥

THIS is important.

Because sometimes we become so afraid of burdening people that we start trying to read their minds.

They’re quiet?

They’re tired of me.

They sigh?

I’m getting on their nerves.

They need an afternoon to themselves?

See? I’m too much.

They don’t answer immediately?

I knew eventually everybody would leave.

Beloveds…

Sometimes a sigh is just a sigh.

😭😆❤️‍🔥

Sometimes people are tired because people get tired.

Sometimes the person helping you needs help too.

Healthy receiving does not require pretending caregivers never become exhausted.

It means learning that:

Their humanity does not cancel your worth.

And your need does not cancel theirs.

Both can be true.

❤️‍🔥

We can appreciate people.

We can respect boundaries.

We can ask what they need.

We can say thank you.

We can learn what we’re able to do for ourselves.

We can keep growing.

AND—

we can stop treating our existence like something requiring an apology.

😭❤️‍🔥

Some of us need to retire a sentence:

“I’m sorry I’m such a burden.”

Because what exactly are we asking the person who loves us to do with that?

Sometimes they spend the next ten minutes trying to convince us that we’re worthy of the love they were already freely giving.

What if instead we said:

“I know this isn’t easy. Thank you for being here.”

That honors reality.

It acknowledges sacrifice.

And it doesn’t require us to destroy ourselves in the process.

❤️‍🔥

Scripture says:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2, KJV

Yesterday we talked about something hidden inside that verse:

If we’re commanded to carry one another’s burdens…

then sometimes I am going to be the “another.”

👀

Sometimes you carry.

Sometimes you are carried.

Sometimes you cook the meal.

Sometimes somebody brings one to your door.

Sometimes you make the phone call.

Sometimes you need somebody to make one for you.

Sometimes you pray over somebody else’s tears.

Sometimes you cannot get your own prayer past:

“Jesus, help me.”

And somebody else prays while you cry.

😭🙏❤️‍🔥

None of those moments determines your permanent identity.

**Being carried is something happening to you.

“Burden” is something shame is calling you.**

Learn the difference.

❤️‍🔥

And here’s another difficult truth:

Some of us became valuable to ourselves because of how useful we could be to everybody else.

We became the strong one.

The dependable one.

The helper.

The fixer.

The rescuer.

The one everybody calls.

And being needed became part of how we knew we mattered.

Then life turned around and said:

Now YOU need somebody.

😱❤️‍🔥

And suddenly our entire understanding of worth gets shaken.

Because if I can’t prove my worth through what I do for everybody…

Am I still worth loving?

YES.

And maybe that’s the lesson.

Maybe love is trying to reach deeper than usefulness.

Maybe somebody is trying to love the person underneath everything you can do for them.

Not your productivity.

Not your strength.

Not your ability.

Not your usefulness.

YOU.

😭❤️‍🔥

And perhaps that’s why receiving feels so uncomfortable.

Because receiving asks us to believe something giving never required us to believe:

I can be loved while bringing nothing to this particular moment except myself.

WHEW.

❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Beloveds, we are not talking about entitlement.

We’re not talking about demanding that everybody abandon themselves for us.

Healthy love has boundaries.

Healthy caregivers need rest.

Healthy relationships communicate.

But boundaries and shame are not the same thing.

Someone saying:

“I love you, and I need to rest tonight”

doesn’t mean:

“You are too much.”

It may simply mean:

“I love you, AND I am human too.”

And perhaps healthy receiving sounds like:

“I understand. Thank you for everything you’ve already done. Go rest.”

Look at that.

No guilt.

No manipulation.

No abandonment panic.

No martyrdom.

Just two human beings loving one another while allowing each other to remain human.

❤️‍🔥

So today I want us to challenge the sentence:

“I am a burden.”

Replace it with the truth:

“I am a human being carrying something heavy, and right now I need help carrying it.”

That’s different.

Very different.

And one day, beloved…

somebody you love may be carrying something heavy.

And perhaps because you remember what it felt like to be carried without humiliation…

you will know exactly how to reach for their hand.

😭❤️‍🔥

❤️‍🔥 THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE

Catch yourself today if you say—or even THINK:

“I’m a burden.”

Stop.

Then finish this sentence instead:

“I am not a burden. I am currently carrying ________, and I need help with ________.”

Name the circumstance.

Don’t turn the circumstance into your identity.

❤️ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE

If someone helps you today, resist the urge to immediately minimize your need or promise repayment.

Look at them.

And say:

“Thank you for helping me carry this.”

Let that be enough.

🙌 DAILY VICTORY

I needed help, and I allowed myself to receive it without turning my need into shame.

That counts.

Maybe more than we realize.

🙏🏾 MORNING PRAYER

Father,

Somewhere along the way, some of us learned that being strong meant never needing anybody.

Please unteach us.

Show us the difference between responsibility and shame.

Give us courage to do what we can.

Humility to ask when we cannot.

Wisdom to respect the boundaries of those who love us.

And grace to receive what they freely choose to give.

When shame whispers,

“You’re a burden,”

remind us:

We are people.

People sometimes hurt.

People sometimes fall.

People sometimes need.

People sometimes carry.

And people sometimes need carrying.

Teach us how to do both with love.

And Father, for the person reading this who feels like everybody would be better without their needs…

come close.

Remind them that a difficult season is not their identity.

Remind them that needing care does not erase their dignity.

And teach all of us how to build communities where nobody has to pretend to be invincible just to feel worthy of belonging.

Amen. ❤️‍🔥

Today, beloveds…

Stop calling yourself what shame called you.

You are not the difficulty you’re experiencing.

You are not the assistance you require.

You are not somebody else’s inconvenience.

You are a human being.

Loved.

Learning.

Carrying some things.

Being carried through others.

And still becoming.

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
