MAYBE YOU NEVER HAD TO BE “ENOUGH” TO DESERVE TENDERNESS 😭❤️‍🔥

MAYBE YOU NEVER HAD TO BE “ENOUGH” TO DESERVE TENDERNESS 😭❤️‍🔥

Beloveds,

Whew!😭

This one found a place in me I didn’t know was still hiding.

Maybe you didn’t have to be strong enough, funny enough, productive enough, independent enough, helpful enough, spiritually together enough—or anything else enough—to deserve tenderness.

😭❤️‍🔥

Read that again.

Because some of us learned how to be valuable before we ever learned how to simply be loved.

So we became useful.

We became dependable.

We became the strong one.

The funny one.

The praying one.

The fixing one.

The encouraging one.

The one who could make everybody laugh while quietly falling apart.

The one who said, “I got it.”

The one who hated asking for help.

The one who would crawl before calling somebody and saying:

“I can’t do this by myself.”

And somewhere along the way, usefulness started feeling dangerously close to worth.

So when we could produce, we felt valuable.

When we could help, we felt valuable.

When somebody needed us, we knew exactly who we were.

But then life happened.

Illness happened.

Grief happened.

Age happened.

Loss happened.

Heartbreak happened.

Exhaustion happened.

Disability happened.

Depression happened.

Financial trouble happened.

Divorce happened.

Caregiving happened.

Failure happened.

Some kind of happened happened.

And suddenly we couldn’t be who we had always been.

We couldn’t carry everybody.

We couldn’t fix everything.

We couldn’t show up the same way.

Sometimes we couldn’t even take care of ourselves without somebody helping.

And THAT is when the question underneath everything finally crawled out:

If I can’t be useful to you right now…will you still love me?

😭😭😭❤️‍🔥

Beloveds.

There it is.

Maybe that’s why receiving love can make some of us cry harder than losing something.

Because when somebody sees us unable to perform and stays anyway, it confronts the lie we’ve been carrying:

I have to earn tenderness.

No.

You don’t.

You never did.

❤️‍🔥

You don’t have to entertain people into loving you.

You don’t have to exhaust yourself into loving you.

You don’t have to overgive so nobody notices how badly you need to receive.

You don’t have to keep everybody comfortable while you are uncomfortable.

You don’t have to apologize every five minutes because somebody had to help you.

And you don’t have to immediately start calculating how you’re going to pay somebody back because they loved you during a difficult season.

Sometimes love says:

“Sit down. I have this.”

And perhaps your work is not jumping back up.

Perhaps your work is learning to sit there without turning tenderness into shame.

😭❤️‍🔥

Because some of us know how to give love beautifully.

Receiving it?

WHEW.

That’s another ministry entirely.

Giving lets us feel strong.

Receiving exposes our need.

Giving lets us control what leaves our hands.

Receiving requires us to open them.

And open hands can feel terrifying when life has taught us that everything comes with strings.

So we start searching for the invoice.

What do they want?

What do I owe?

How long before they get tired of me?

How much inconvenience am I allowed to cause before their love expires?

Beloved—

LOVE IS NOT A METER RUNNING OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR.

😭❤️‍🔥

Yes, healthy relationships require gratitude, respect, communication, boundaries and mutual care.

But mutual love does not mean everybody gives exactly 50 percent every single day.

Sometimes I carry you.

Sometimes you carry me.

Sometimes we both limp.

Sometimes somebody else has to help us BOTH.

😆❤️‍🔥

That is community.

That is family.

That is friendship.

That is being human.

And for those of us who believe in Jesus, this goes even deeper.

Grace itself destroys our little system of earning.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” — Ephesians 2:8 KJV

A gift.

Not wages.

Not payment.

Not an award for Most Impressive Christian While Falling Apart. 😭😆

Gift.

And maybe that’s why receiving can become holy work.

Because receiving says:

I don’t have to prove my worth before I open my hands.

Receiving says:

Someone else’s kindness does not make me inferior.

Receiving says:

Needing help today does not erase everything I am.

Receiving says:

I am allowed to be loved before I get myself together.

😭❤️‍🔥

So here’s today’s challenge.

When somebody loves you today—

don’t immediately minimize it.

Don’t argue with it.

Don’t rush to repay it.

Don’t say, “You shouldn’t have.”

Don’t turn it into guilt.

Try two words:

Thank you.

That’s it.

Let the love land.

😭

And if tears come?

Let those land too.

Maybe they’re not telling you that you’re weak.

Maybe they’re telling you:

“I didn’t know how badly I needed tenderness.”

Beloveds, you do not have to become impressive enough to deserve gentle hands.

You don’t have to become productive enough to deserve patience.

You don’t have to become independent enough to deserve companionship.

You don’t have to become cheerful enough to deserve somebody sitting beside you while you cry.

You don’t have to become spiritually polished enough for God to come near.

And you certainly don’t have to become less needy before you’re worthy of love.

Maybe you never had to be anything enough.

Maybe—

you were always worth loving.

😭🙏❤️‍🔥

Cassandra Challenge ❤️‍🔥

Today, catch yourself when you try to turn love into debt.

Instead of:

“I’m sorry you had to help me…”

try:

“Thank you for loving me here.”

And if that sentence makes you cry?

Whew.

We may have just found where some healing needs to happen.

We’ll stay there.

Together.

Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

Cassandra
