God, why has hard moved in to stay?
Beloveds,
I’m tired. Tired of hard being so hard. I’m ready for boring to move in…
Anybody else?
Anybody else just ready for life to be boring for a minute?
And I mean boring.
Nothing happened today.
Nobody called with bad news.
Nothing broke.
Nothing changed.
Nobody needed me to figure out one more thing.
I didn’t have to adjust to anything.
Just a regular day.
Sounds good to me.
Because, beloveds, sometimes life just keeps lifing.
You deal with one thing and here comes another.
You get your footing and here comes something else.
You start getting used to one version of your life and life says, hold on, we’re changing this too.
I’m tired, God.
Not done.
Not discouraged.
Tired.
There’s a difference.
My Father knows exactly what I mean.
I don’t have to give Him the list.
He was there.
He is here.
That’s settled between My Father and me.
But I can still talk to Him.
Father, can we have some boring now?
Because I would really like to know what it feels like to have absolutely nothing to report.
And, beloveds, maybe boring isn’t what you need right now.
Maybe you’re ready for something new.
Maybe something wonderful just happened and you’re enjoying every minute of it.
Maybe you’re waiting for something to change.
Maybe you’re hoping something stays exactly as it is.
Maybe you don’t even know what you’re ready for yet.
So let me ask you instead of answering for you:
What are you ready for?
I’m ready for boring.
What are you ready for?
What would it feel like for life to make a little room for that?
I’m not asking so I can tell you what your answer should be.
I’m asking because we’re sitting here together.
🪑🪑
And I still want adventures.
I still want new experiences.
I still have dreams.
I still have things I want to do.
I still have a whole lot of living left to do.
I’d just like life to quit throwing things at me long enough for me to enjoy some of it without having to duck.
And maybe, beloveds, that’s not your sentence.
Maybe yours is completely different.
Good.
Bring yours.
There’s room.
Because if hard is sitting at your house right now, I’m not going to tell you what to do with it.
I’m certainly not going to tell you why it’s there.
I don’t know.
I don’t know your life.
I can only sit beside you and tell you:
hard has been at my house too.
And I’m tired of it.
No lesson.
No pretty bow.
No five steps for getting through it.
I’m ready for boring.
And you?
You get to answer that for yourself.
Father, I’m asking You for boring.
And while I’m asking, You already know what the beloveds sitting beside me are asking for.
You know the answer they said out loud.
You know the answer they kept to themselves.
You know the one who doesn’t have an answer yet.
You know.
So here we are, beloveds.
Me waiting on boring.
You waiting on whatever you’ve been quietly hoping life would make room for.
And all of us still living while we wait.
Still showing up.
Still finding moments that belong to us.
Still sitting together when hard gets a little too comfortable.
Pull your chair closer.
🪑🪑
We can wait together.
And if boring happens to show up at my door while we’re sitting here?
I’m letting it in.
You matter to me.
loving me some you,
Cassandra
