SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY, DOING FELT SAFER THAN NEEDING πβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
βSomewhere along the way, you discovered that doing felt safer than needing,β says Jesus/The Father.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Whew.
Sit with that.
Because maybe you didn’t wake up one morning and decide:
I will never need anybody.
Maybe you learned it.
Slowly.
Quietly.
One disappointment at a time.
One responsibility at a time.
One βI’ll just do it myselfβ at a time.
One moment of discovering that being the helper felt much safer than being the one who needed help.
So you became a doer.
You handled things.
You fixed things.
You carried things.
You anticipated needs before anybody had to ask.
You became dependable.
Productive.
Helpful.
Strong.
Funny when the room got uncomfortable.
Encouraging when everybody else was falling apart.
You learned how to walk into somebody else’s pain carrying a bucket of water while your own house was smoking.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
And maybe nobody ever told you directly:
βYou are only valuable when you’re useful.β
But somewhere along the way, usefulness started feeling like safety.
If I’m useful, I belong.
If I’m helping, I’m needed.
If I’m giving, I’m valuable.
If I’m strong, nobody has to carry me.
If I don’t need much, nobody can call me too much.
And if I never ask anybody to comeβ¦
I never have to discover whether they will.
πππβ€οΈβπ₯
There it is.
Beloveds, sometimes independence is beautiful.
And sometimes independence quietly becomes armor.
Not because something is wrong with us.
Because somewhere along the way, doing felt safer than needing.
And Jesus/The Father know exactly where that happened.
They know what taught you to say:
βI got it.β
They know why asking feels uncomfortable.
They know why receiving can make you feel guilty.
They know why somebody rearranging their life to help you can make you cry instead of simply making you grateful.
They know why you immediately start looking for the invoice.
How do I repay this?
What do I owe?
Did I ask too much?
Am I becoming a burden?
How quickly can I make this up to them?
And perhaps Jesus/The Father are saying:
βBeloved, We know why you learned to survive this way.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
βWe saw you become the strong one.β
βWe saw you learn how to carry.β
βWe saw you discover that giving felt safer than receiving.β
βWe saw you become so good at helping everybody else that eventually you didn’t know what to do when somebody reached for YOU.β
And They aren’t standing over you angry about it.
They are inviting you out of hiding.
β€οΈβπ₯
Because there is a difference between:
βI can do this myself.β
and
βI MUST do this myself because needing somebody feels dangerous.β
One is ability.
The other may be armor.
And armor can protect you beautifully in battle.
But belovedβ
armor makes receiving a hug awfully difficult.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s why tenderness feels so strange.
Somebody comes.
Somebody stays.
Somebody helps.
Somebody sees the mess.
Somebody sees that you cannot fix everything today.
And suddenly two voices start talking inside you.
One says:
βThank God. Somebody came.β
The other says:
βOh God. Somebody HAD to come.β
π
Love says:
βLook how deeply I am cared for.β
Shame says:
βLook how much trouble I caused.β
Same moment.
Completely different interpretation.
And if we’re not careful, shame will take somebody else’s beautiful act of love and turn it into evidence against us.
They came because they love you.
Shame says you inconvenienced them.
They helped because you matter.
Shame says you became a problem.
They stayed because relationship matters.
Shame whispers that you’re becoming too much.
And before long, you can receive all the helpβ¦
without ever receiving the love.
πππβ€οΈβπ₯
Oh, Beloveds.
Maybe Jesus/The Father are trying to interrupt that.
Maybe They are saying:
βStop apologizing long enough to notice who came.β
βStop calculating long enough to experience being cared for.β
βStop trying to repay tenderness before tenderness has even had time to reach your heart.β
Because perhaps the deepest question isn’t:
βWhy do I have such a hard time asking for help?β
Maybe it’s:
βWhat do I believe will happen if somebody discovers that I need them?β
β€οΈβπ₯
Will they leave?
Will they resent me?
Will they make me feel small?
Will they remind me later?
Will there be strings attached?
Will they decide I’m too much?
Will I owe them forever?
Orβ¦
π
will they love me?
That’s the risk.
Because doing gives us control.
Needing requires trust.
Doing says:
βI’ll handle it.β
Needing sometimes has to whisper:
βWill you help me?β
And receiving has to stand there afterward with empty hands and somehow resist saying:
βNow tell me what I owe you.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
And Jesus/The Father know something about grace.
βFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:β β Ephesians 2:8 KJV
A gift.
Not wages.
Not a performance bonus.
Not payment for being sufficiently useful.
Gift.
Maybe that is why receiving love can become holy work.
Because receiving challenges everything in us that believes we must earn what is freely given.
Beloveds, perhaps Jesus/The Father aren’t trying to take your strength away.
Perhaps They are teaching your strength that it is finally allowed to rest.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
You can still be capable.
You can still become stronger.
You can still pursue independence.
You can still do everything you genuinely can for yourself.
But you don’t have to turn independence into proof that you’re worthy.
And you don’t have to turn dependence into proof that you’re not.
Sometimes you carry.
Sometimes you’re carried.
Neither position determines your value.
β€οΈβπ₯
CASSANDRA CHALLENGE β€οΈβπ₯
Today, notice your first reaction when somebody offers you genuine love, assistance or tenderness.
Do you immediately say:
βI’m sorryβ¦β
βYou don’t have toβ¦β
βI’ll make it up to youβ¦β
βI hate bothering youβ¦β
Don’t condemn yourself.
Just notice.
Then try something terrifyingly simple:
βThank you.β
And let it end there.
No invoice.
No apology.
No immediate repayment plan.
Just:
Thank you for loving me here.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
And maybe tonight, sit quietly before Jesus/The Father and ask:
βWhen did doing start feeling safer to me than needing?β
Then don’t rush to manufacture an answer.
Just sit.
Because perhaps Jesus/The Father have been waiting for us to become quiet enough to hear:
βBeloved, We know why you became strong.
But you never had to be strong enough to deserve Our tenderness.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Whew.
Maybe healing isn’t only learning how to stand again.
Maybe some healing is discovering that when you cannot standβ
being held does not make you less worthy.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

giving all that I have and am,
Cassandra
BELOVED, YOU ARE NOT WEARING GOD OUT β€οΈβπ₯
BELOVED, YOU ARE NOT WEARING GOD OUT β€οΈβπ₯
For the One Who Keeps Coming Back With the Same Need
Beloveds,
Maybe this is the part we haven’t said yet.
You finally came.
You finally admitted:
βI need help.β
You finally stopped pretending everything was okay.
You finally opened your hands.
And then another thought showed up:
βBut surely God must be tired of hearing this from me.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
I’ve prayed about this before.
I’ve cried about this before.
I’ve struggled with this before.
I thought I was past this.
I gave this to God yesterday.
Why am I afraid again?
Why am I hurting again?
Why do I need reassurance AGAIN?
And sometimes we start imagining God responding the way impatient human beings sometimes respond:
βThis again?β
Beloved…
look at Scripture.
βIt is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.β
βThey are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.β
β Lamentations 3:22β23, KJV
His compassions fail not.
Not:
His compassion lasts until you’ve asked too many times.
Not:
His mercy expires after the fifth breakdown.
Not:
Grace available while supplies last.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
They are new every morning.
Maybe because God already knew we would need new mercy every morning.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU ARE LEARNING, NOT FAILING
Some lessons don’t enter us once.
We learn them.
Then life tests them.
Then we learn them deeper.
Then something hurts.
We forget.
We remember.
We practice.
We wobble.
We try again.
That’s not necessarily failure.
Sometimes that’s how human beings grow.
β€οΈβπ₯
Yesterday you believed:
βI am allowed to receive love.β
Today guilt came back.
Okay.
Tell guilt again.
Tomorrow shame may knock.
Tell shame again.
Next week fear may whisper:
βYou’re becoming a burden.β
Answer it again.
Growth doesn’t always mean the old thought never returns.
Sometimes growth means:
the old thought returned, but this time I recognized it.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
THAT counts.
β€οΈβπ₯ THE FATHER ALREADY KNOWS WE ARE HUMAN
Scripture says:
βFor he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust.β
β Psalm 103:14, KJV
I love that.
He knoweth our frame.
God isn’t discovering our limitations in real time.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You’re not going to have a difficult Wednesday and catch heaven completely off guard.
ANGELS! Emergency meeting! Cassandra got tired! π±π
No.
He knows our frame.
He knows we’re human.
He knows exhaustion changes things.
He knows grief comes in waves.
He knows fear can return.
He knows confidence can wobble.
He knows sometimes we understand something intellectually before our hearts learn how to live inside it.
And still…
He stays.
β€οΈβπ₯ JESUS ALREADY KNEW PETER WOULD WOBBLE
Peter is one of my favorite reminders that Jesus does not love imaginary perfect people.
Peter loved Jesus.
Peter also had…
shall we say…
moments.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Big declarations.
Big feelings.
Big mistakes.
Peter could go from revelation to rebuke with impressive efficiency.
And before Peter denied Jesus, Jesus already knew what was coming.
Yet He told Peter:
βBut I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.β
β Luke 22:32, KJV
Look at that.
Jesus saw the failure coming…
and still saw a future beyond it.
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
He didn’t merely see:
Peter will fall.
He saw:
Peter will get back up.
And then:
Peter will strengthen somebody else.
Oh, beloved.
Maybe your difficult chapter isn’t evidence that your usefulness to God has ended.
Maybe some of what you’re learning here will someday become the very tenderness with which you hold somebody else.
Not because pain is automatically good.
Not because everything that happens is easy to explain.
But because God can meet us inside what happened and refuse to waste what love can redeem.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU KEEP SAYING, βI’M BACK AGAIN.β
And perhaps grace keeps answering:
βCome.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Father, I’m scared again.
Come.
Jesus, I’m angry again.
Come.
I’m grieving again.
Come.
I need reassurance again.
Come.
I thought I was stronger than this.
Come.
I made another mess.
Come.
I don’t even know what I need.
Come.
βLet us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.β
β Hebrews 4:16, KJV
Look at where Scripture tells needy people to go:
toward Him.
Not away.
Toward.
β€οΈβπ₯
And look at what we’re coming to:
the throne of grace.
Not the throne of:
Explain yourself.
Not:
Why aren’t you over this yet?
Not:
You again?
Grace.
And what are we coming for?
Mercy.
Grace to help.
When?
In time of need.
Beloved…
need is literally in the invitation.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ MAYBE YOU’VE BEEN APOLOGIZING TO GOD FOR USING THE VERY DOOR HE OPENED
π
Think about that.
He says:
Come when you need mercy.
And we arrive saying:
I’m sorry I need mercy.
He says:
Cast your cares on Me.
We say:
I’m sorry I have so many cares.
He says:
Come when you’re weary.
We say:
I’m sorry I’m tired.
He says:
Ask.
We say:
I’m sorry I’m asking again.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe instead of apologizing for accepting the invitation…
we can say:
βThank You for leaving the door open.β
β€οΈβπ₯ AND MAYBE THIS CHANGES HOW WE LOVE EACH OTHER
Because if God’s patience with us becomes real to us…
perhaps we become more patient with other people’s humanity.
Maybe somebody needs reassurance again.
Maybe somebody is learning slowly.
Maybe somebody’s grief circled back.
Maybe somebody who was doing wonderfully yesterday is struggling today.
We don’t have to become everybody’s rescuer.
Boundaries still matter.
Wisdom still matters.
But compassion can say:
βI remember needing grace too.β
β€οΈβπ₯
And suddenly we stop demanding that people heal on schedules convenient for us.
We stop saying:
βAren’t you over that yet?β
We stop treating setbacks like proof that nothing changed.
We learn how to celebrate smaller victories:
You asked for help this time.
You told the truth this time.
You rested before collapsing this time.
You noticed the shame this time.
You received the kindness this time.
You came back to God this time.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
That’s growth too.
β€οΈβπ₯ FROM THE FATHER’S HEART, THROUGH HIS WORD
Beloved…
His compassions fail not.
He knows your frame.
His throne is called a throne of grace.
Jesus invited the weary to come.
Scripture keeps pointing us toward Him.
So perhaps today our hearts can stop imagining an irritated God standing with folded arms…
and begin trusting the God Scripture actually reveals.
Merciful.
Faithful.
Holy.
Correcting us because He loves us.
Calling us toward growth.
And still welcoming us when we need grace along the way.
β€οΈβπ₯
ππΎ OUR PRAYER
Father,
We’re back.
Some of us are embarrassed about that.
We thought yesterday’s prayer should have fixed everything.
We thought yesterday’s courage should have lasted forever.
We thought once we learned the lesson, we’d never struggle with it again.
But here we are.
Again.
πππΎ
And Your Word says Your compassions fail not.
So we have come.
Again.
We need mercy.
Again.
We need courage.
Again.
We need rest.
Again.
We need help.
Again.
We need You.
Again.
And perhaps someday we’ll understand:
Needing You again was never the embarrassing part.
Maybe learning to keep coming was part of faith all along.
Father, teach us not to confuse repetition with rejection.
Teach us patience with our growth.
Correct what needs correcting.
Heal what needs healing.
Strengthen what needs strengthening.
And when we fall…
help us rise without spending three weeks lying beside the mistake arguing that we’re too ashamed to take Your hand.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Jesus,
thank You for praying for Peter before Peter even understood how badly he would need it.
Thank You that Peter’s failure wasn’t the final sentence.
Thank You for grace that restores people and then sends restored people to strengthen others.
Do that in us.
Not so we can pretend we never hurt.
But so someday we can sit beside another hurting person and say:
βCome. There is room for you here too.β
Amen.
β€οΈβπ₯ππΎ
Beloveds…
maybe that’s today’s ministry.
You came back with the same need.
Welcome back.
You cried about the same thing.
Come closer.
You got scared again.
Reach for His hand again.
You need help again.
Ask again.
You need rest again.
Rest again.
You need grace again.
Beloved…
there is grace again.
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Not because we are entitled to God.
Because He invited us to come.
So come.
No rΓ©sumΓ©.
No performance.
No pretending.
No shame speech at the door.
Just:
βFather, it’s me.β
And maybe faith begins again with His invitation:
Come.
β€οΈβπ₯
From His heart to ours.
From our hearts to yours.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

FROM THEIR HEART TO OURS β€οΈβπ₯
Beloved, You Can Stop Trying to Earn What We Already Desire to Give You
Beloveds,
Today, we’re going to be quiet.
No teaching first.
No fixing.
No proving.
No trying to impress God with how well we’re handling everything.
Just…
come.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Imagine setting everything down for a moment.
The guilt.
The shame.
The fear that you’re asking too much.
The embarrassment about what you cannot do.
The worry about everybody who’s helping you.
The questions about whether you’re becoming a burden.
The frantic need to prove that you’re still useful.
The old fear that love always comes with strings.
Set it down.
And hear the heart Scripture reveals to us from the Father and Jesus.
β€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, COME.
You keep thinking you have to get yourself together before you come close.
But Jesus already told us:
βCome unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.β
β Matthew 11:28, KJV
Not:
Come when you’re stronger.
Come.
Not:
Come when you’ve stopped crying.
Come.
Not:
Come when you’re useful again.
Come.
Not:
Come after you’ve cleaned up the mess.
Come.
Not:
Come when you finally have something impressive to offer.
Just…
come.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You’ve spent so much time wondering what you can bring to God.
Maybe today the answer is:
yourself.
Tired.
Confused.
Grateful.
Angry.
Hopeful.
Scared.
Healing.
Hurting.
Laughing one minute and crying the next.
Still figuring things out.
Still learning how to receive.
Come anyway.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU DO NOT HAVE TO APOLOGIZE FOR NEEDING US
Some of us have been apologizing our way through life.
I’m sorry I need help.
I’m sorry I’m tired.
I’m sorry I can’t do what I used to.
I’m sorry I’m crying again.
I’m sorry I’m not stronger yet.
I’m sorry everybody has to help me.
And Scripture keeps showing us a God who invites needy people closer.
βCasting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.β
β 1 Peter 5:7, KJV
All your care.
Not only the respectable worries.
Not only the spiritual ones.
Not only the problems you think are big enough to bother God with.
All.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
What if the Father isn’t standing over you irritated because you need Him again?
What if He is exactly who Scripture says He is?
A Father.
And what if Jesus isn’t exhausted by the fact that you’re still learning?
What if grace anticipated that?
β€οΈβπ₯ WE KNEW YOU WOULD NEED GRACE BEFORE YOU EVER NEEDED IT
Grace wasn’t God’s emergency backup plan after humanity became messy.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
He knew.
He knew we would stumble.
He knew we would hurt.
He knew we would need forgiveness.
He knew we would become frightened.
He knew we would become exhausted.
He knew some days our prayers would sound magnificent…
and other days they’d sound like:
βJesus. Help.β
πππΎ
And somehow two words can still be prayer.
Sometimes one word can.
Jesus.
Sometimes tears themselves seem to carry what language cannot.
You don’t have to perform spirituality either.
β€οΈβπ₯ STOP BRINGING US YOUR RΓSUMΓ
Some of us keep approaching God with our list.
Look how faithful I’ve been.
Look how much I’ve served.
Look how much I’ve given.
Look how many people I’ve helped.
Look how hard I’ve tried.
And those things can be beautiful.
But beloved…
they aren’t currency for purchasing the Father’s love.
β€οΈβπ₯
Scripture says:
βFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:β
βNot of works, lest any man should boast.β
β Ephesians 2:8β9, KJV
Gift.
There is that word again.
Gift.
And some of us don’t know what to do with gifts.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
We know what to do with wages.
Earn them.
We know what to do with debts.
Repay them.
We know what to do with contracts.
Fulfill them.
But a gift?
A gift leaves us standing there with empty hands.
And perhaps that’s exactly where grace wants us.
Not empty because we are worthless.
Empty because:
there is finally room to receive.
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, WE ARE NOT ASHAMED OF YOUR NEED
You may be ashamed.
God isn’t surprised.
You may look at your weakness and think:
βSurely this makes me less valuable.β
But Jesus has never needed your strength in order to be strong.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Read that again.
Jesus does not need you to pretend to be strong so He can remain Savior.
You are allowed to need saving.
You are allowed to need carrying.
You are allowed to need comfort.
You are allowed to need mercy.
You are allowed to need rest.
You are allowed to need Him.
In fact…
that’s the whole point.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU KEEP TRYING TO CARRY WHAT WE KEEP ASKING YOU TO RELEASE
Somebody needs this.
You’ve prayed about it…
then picked it back up.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Lord, I give this to You.
Five minutes later:
WHERE DID I PUT THAT WORRY?
ππΎββοΈππ
Right back in the bag.
Back on the shoulder.
Back into the mind.
Back into the 3:17 a.m. emergency meeting nobody invited Jesus to.
Beloved…
put it down again.
And if you pick it up tomorrow?
Put it down tomorrow.
Grace is patient enough for repetition.
β€οΈβπ₯ WE ARE NOT KEEPING THE SCORE YOU THINK WE ARE
Maybe you’ve imagined the Father with a ledger.
Good day.
Bad day.
Strong day.
Weak day.
Faithful day.
Messy day.
Prayer completed.
Prayer forgotten.
Bible read.
Bible untouched.
Kind words.
Bad attitude.
Excellent Tuesday.
Absolute foolishness Wednesday.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
And accountability matters.
Repentance matters.
Growth matters.
Obedience matters.
But none of those means the Father’s love fluctuates every morning according to your performance.
Scripture says:
βBut God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.β
β Romans 5:8, KJV
While we were yet sinners.
Before the cleanup.
Before the improvement.
Before the impressive testimony.
Love moved first.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ JESUS: I ALREADY KNEW THE COST
Maybe this is where the fear of strings attached finally meets the Cross.
We’ve been asking:
βWhat will this love cost me later?β
And Jesus points us toward Calvary.
The cost wasn’t hidden.
He knew it.
He chose it.
βGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.β
β John 15:13, KJV
β€οΈβπ₯
The Cross isn’t Jesus giving us something so He can manipulate us later.
The Cross reveals sacrificial love.
Grace doesn’t say:
βNow spend your life trying to pay Me back.β
Grace says:
βFollow Me.β
There is a difference.
One is debt.
The other is relationship.
One says:
Repay.
The other says:
Come with Me.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ THE FATHER: YOU ARE MY CHILD, NOT MY EMPLOYEE
Some of us understand employment better than sonship or daughterhood.
Employees earn wages.
Employees prove productivity.
Employees receive performance reviews.
Employees can be replaced when they stop producing.
So sometimes we unconsciously bring that model into our relationship with God.
What did I accomplish for You today?
But family asks another question:
Whose are you?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Before you accomplished today’s list…
His.
When you got tired halfway through…
His.
When you cried…
His.
When you needed help…
His.
When somebody had to carry you…
His.
When you finally did something you couldn’t do yesterday…
His.
When tomorrow turns out harder again…
still His.
β€οΈβπ₯ JESUS: LET ME WASH YOUR FEET
Oh, this one.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Peter struggled with receiving too.
When Jesus came to wash his feet, Peter resisted:
βThou shalt never wash my feet.β
β John 13:8, KJV
Does that sound familiar?
No, no. I’ll do it.
You don’t have to do that for me.
I’ll handle it.
Let me serve YOU.
And Jesus challenged Peter to receive.
Sometimes humility isn’t kneeling down to serve.
Sometimes humility is remaining seated while love kneels in front of you.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
WHEW.
Some of us can wash everybody’s feet.
But when somebody reaches for ours?
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Because serving feels holy.
Receiving feels vulnerable.
But Jesus demonstrated both.
And perhaps He is teaching us:
You cannot follow the way of love while refusing to ever occupy the receiver’s chair.
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, SIT THERE.
Don’t jump up yet.
Don’t grab the towel.
Don’t say:
βOkay, now it’s my turn.β
Sit.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Let yourself be served.
Let yourself be loved.
Let yourself be comforted.
Let somebody pray for YOU.
Let somebody encourage YOU.
Let somebody bring YOU something.
Let somebody make the phone call.
Let somebody drive.
Let somebody sit beside you.
Let somebody say:
βI’ve got this part.β
And don’t immediately answer:
βButββ
No but.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Sit.
Receive.
β€οΈβπ₯ FROM THEIR HEART TO OURS
If we gathered the invitations of Scripture into one place, perhaps this is what our hearts need to hear today:
Come.
Cast your cares.
Receive grace.
Let Me give you rest.
Let Me love you first.
Let Me serve you.
Let Me carry what you cannot.
Then, when you have received love, go love somebody else.
Not to repay Me.
Not to prove yourself.
Not to purchase your place.
But because love received eventually becomes love overflowing.
πβ€οΈβπ₯π
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
β 1 John 4:19, KJV
There it is.
The whole thing.
He first loved us.
We receive.
Then…
we love.
ππΎ OUR RESPONSE
Father…
we have spent so much time trying to prove ourselves.
We’re tired.
Jesus…
we have resisted having our feet washed.
We thought strength meant always being the one holding the towel.
Forgive us where pride has kept our hands closed.
Heal us where hurt has kept them closed.
Comfort us where shame has kept them closed.
Give us wisdom where past manipulation taught us to fear every gift.
And then…
slowly…
gently…
teach us to open our hands.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
We receive Your grace.
We receive Your mercy.
We receive Your correction.
We receive Your comfort.
We receive Your rest.
We receive the trustworthy people You place around us.
We receive help without calling ourselves helpless.
We receive love without calling ourselves burdens.
And when guilt says:
βYou need to pay this back,β
remind us that gratitude can simply say:
βThank You.β
Father…
Thank You.
Jesus…
Thank You.
For coming.
For staying.
For carrying.
For loving first.
For loving still.
And for teaching us how to love because we finally learned how to receive Yours.

Beloveds…
Maybe today there is no Cassandra Challenge.
No homework.
No assignment.
Maybe today receiving IS the assignment.
Sit there.
Let Them love you.
Let grace finish its sentence before guilt interrupts.
And when your heart finally finds words…
just whisper:
βThank You, Father.β
βThank You, Jesus.β
βI receive.β

AUGUST 24, 2026
π© PEARL CLUTCHERS, THIS ONE MAY NOT BE FOR YOU
It’s okay to Make/ Be A Mess Series with Cassandra β Piece One
Beloveds,
We need to talk about π©.
There.
I said it.
I’ll give the pearl clutchers a moment.
π
Everybody okay?
Good.
Now let’s talk about dignity.
Because that’s what this is really about.
After my stroke, there have been things about recovery that aren’t particularly inspirational-looking.
There are victories nobody puts on greeting cards.
There are things bodies do that we’d rather not announce.
There are moments when independence and dignity suddenly become very complicated words.
And yes, beloveds…
Sometimes there is π©.
π€£
I could pretend otherwise.
I could clean up the story before I hand it to you.
Make recovery prettier.
Make myself more comfortable for public consumption.
But what good would that do?
Because somebody reading this has their own mess.
Maybe yours doesn’t require toilet paper.
Maybe your marriage is hurting.
Maybe you’re lonely.
Maybe you’ve made a mistake you’re ashamed of.
Maybe your body has changed.
Maybe depression has made brushing your teeth feel enormous.
Maybe somebody has to help you do something you once did without thinking.
Maybe you’ve hurt somebody and don’t know how to make it right.
Maybe you’re holding together a life that looks perfectly respectable from the sidewalk.
Mess comes in many forms.
And shame loves every last one of them.
π« WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS?
Because shame grows beautifully in secrecy.
It whispers:
Don’t let anybody know.
They’ll look at you differently.
You’re supposed to have this together.
Other people don’t struggle like this.
And eventually we don’t merely hide the mess.
We start hiding ourselves.
That’s the part I want us to challenge.
Your humanity is not something you need to apologize for.
And neither is mine.
I am learning that dignity cannot depend upon my body behaving perfectly.
It cannot depend upon how much assistance I need.
It cannot depend upon whether my life looks tidy today.
And your dignity cannot depend upon those things either.
π WHY I BELIEVE THAT
Psalm 139:14 says:
βI am fearfully and wonderfully made.β
Notice what it doesn’t say.
Fearfully and wonderfully madeβas long as nothing embarrassing ever happens.
Nope.
And Romans 8:1 begins with another truth I need sometimes:
βThere is therefore now no condemnationβ¦β
I know the theological context is bigger than embarrassment or recovery.
But the principle reminds me of something important:
God is not standing over my humanity with His arms folded, disgusted by me.
So why am I?
And why would I treat somebody else’s vulnerable humanity that way?
π
π§° NOW COMES THE HOW
It isn’t enough for us to say:
βDon’t be ashamed.β
Okay.
Lovely.
HOW?
Start by separating:
WHAT HAPPENED
from
WHO I AM.
I had an accident.
That is an event.
I am disgusting is an identity judgment.
I needed help.
That is information.
I am a burden is a conclusion.
I failed at something.
That’s something I did.
I am a failure is something entirely different.
Beloveds, we have got to stop turning difficult moments into definitions of ourselves.
π YOUR WORK
Think about something you’ve been ashamed of.
Not necessarily your deepest secret.
We’re not trying to emotionally body-slam ourselves before breakfast. π€£
Start somewhere safe.
Write two sentences:
What happened: _______
What I decided it meant about me: _______
Then look at that second sentence.
Is it actually true?
Or have you been carrying a verdict that nobody had the authority to hand you?
β€οΈβπ₯ YOUR LOVE CHALLENGE
Today, protect somebody’s dignity.
Quietly.
No announcement.
No picture.
No Facebook post about what a wonderful human being you were.
π€£
If somebody needs help, help without making them feel small.
If somebody tells you something embarrassing, don’t turn it into entertainment later.
If somebody struggles to do something you can easily do, don’t rush them unnecessarily.
If somebody makes a mistake, correct without humiliating.
And if you are the somebody who needs help?
Here’s your challenge:
Receive one act of kindness without apologizing for needing it.
ππ¬
Yes.
That counts as love too.
π WHY THIS IS LOVE
Because love doesn’t only show up when people are polished.
Love becomes recognizable when humanity gets inconvenient.
Anybody can say:
βI love people.β
Okay.
What happens when they’re messy?
What happens when they’re slow?
What happens when they’re embarrassed?
What happens when they cannot repay you?
What happens when loving them requires protecting something fragile?
That’s where love stops being a slogan.
That’s where we learn HOW.
π± TODAY’S INSPIRATION
Your mess is something you’re experiencing.
It is not your name.
Clean what needs cleaning.
Repair what needs repairing.
Apologize where you need to apologize.
Ask for help where you need help.
Learn what needs learning.
But don’t climb into the trash with what you’re throwing away.
You still belong here.
β€οΈβπ©Ή
ππΏ FOR THOSE WHO PRAY
Father,
Teach us how to see ourselves and one another with compassion and truth.
Show us where shame has convinced us to hide.
Give us courage to take responsibility where responsibility belongs without condemning ourselves for being human.
Teach us to help without superiority and receive without shame.
And when we encounter somebody in a vulnerable moment, make us safe enough to protect their dignity.
Teach us not merely to talk about love.
Teach us HOW to love.
And Father, as I prepare to begin Outpatient Therapy tomorrow, help me practice these words myself.
When I need assistance, let me receive it.
When something is difficult, keep me from making difficulty a verdict about who I am.
When progress seems small, help me see it.
And when I am tired, remind me:
the woman trying to love Your world is part of Your world too.
Amen.
π FOR MY BELOVEDS WHO DON’T PRAY
You don’t have to believe what I believe to belong in this conversation.
So here’s what I hope you carry today:
May you discover that being human was never something you needed to hide.
May you find people who don’t weaponize your vulnerable moments.
May you become that kind of person for somebody else.
May you take responsibility for what is yours without accepting shame that isn’t.
May you receive help without believing you’ve become less valuable because you needed it.
And may you remember:
Dignity isn’t something you earn by keeping your life tidy.
It belongs to you in the mess too.
β€οΈβπ©Ή
π« ONE LAST THING
I’m about to begin another chapter of my recovery.
And while I’m doing that work, I wanted to leave some words here that might soothe a soul and maybe change a life or two.
Starting with mine, beloveds.
Because I don’t have to spend my entire recovery proving I’m still a giver.
I already am one.
Maybe part of recovery is discovering that the woman who loves the world…
is part of the world she’s trying to love.
ππ«π©πΏβπ¦Ό
So yes.
We started this series talking about π©.
π€£
Pearl clutchers, you survived.
Tomorrow we graduate to toilet paper.
π§»
And underneath all our foolishness, we’re going to keep asking two questions:
WHY does love matter here?
And:
HOW do we actually do it?
One messy, beautiful, human lesson at a time.
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

β€οΈβπ₯OPEN YOUR HANDS β€οΈβπ₯
AUGUST 23, 2026
OPEN YOUR HANDS β€οΈβπ₯
Grace Cannot Be Earned. Love Must Sometimes Be Received.
Beloveds,
We’ve spent several days talking about receiving love.
And after everything we’ve uncovered, I think we’re finally ready for the question underneath all the others:
Can you receive something you cannot repay?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Not borrow.
Not earn.
Not exchange.
Not deserve because you’ve been especially good lately.
Not put on layaway. ππ
Receive.
That’s it.
And for some of us, that may be one of the hardest things anybody could ask us to do.
Because we’ve learned how to work.
We’ve learned how to survive.
We’ve learned how to give.
We’ve learned how to perform.
We’ve learned how to make ourselves useful.
We’ve learned how to protect ourselves from strings.
We’ve learned how to avoid owing anybody.
We’ve learned how to say:
βI’m good.β
Even when good packed its bags three exits ago.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
But receiving?
Receiving requires open hands.
And some of us have lived with clenched fists for a very long time.
β€οΈβπ₯ WHY ARE OUR HANDS CLOSED?
Sometimes because we’re afraid.
Sometimes because we’re ashamed.
Sometimes because we’ve been hurt.
Sometimes because gifts have been weaponized against us.
Sometimes because we’ve confused needing help with weakness.
Sometimes because we’ve built our identity around being the giver.
Sometimes because we genuinely don’t know who we are when somebody else is taking care of us.
And sometimes…
we simply don’t believe we’re worthy of what is being offered.
π
So love comes.
And instead of receiving it, we interrogate it.
Why are you doing this?
Love comes.
We minimize it.
You really didn’t have to.
Love comes.
We apologize.
I’m sorry you had to do all this for me.
Love comes.
We promise repayment.
I’ll make it up to you.
Love comes.
And before it has even finished arriving, we’ve turned it into a debt.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s what some of us need to stop doing.
Not because gratitude doesn’t matter.
Gratitude matters enormously.
But gratitude says:
βThank you for what you’ve given.β
Guilt says:
βI need to get rid of this uncomfortable feeling of having received more than I gave.β
Those are different.
β€οΈβπ₯ OPEN HANDS CANNOT CONTROL EVERYTHING
This is where receiving becomes frightening.
A clenched fist feels powerful.
I control what stays.
I control what leaves.
I control what gets close.
But an open hand?
An open hand is vulnerable.
An open hand can give.
But an open hand can also receive.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s why love requires both.
If my hands are permanently clenched, eventually I cannot receive OR give freely.
Everything becomes control.
Everything becomes accounting.
Everything becomes:
Who owes whom?
But love wasn’t designed to live inside a ledger.
β€οΈβπ₯
π MAYBE YOU REALLY DID NEED THEM
Here’s another sentence some of us struggle to say:
βI needed you.β
Not:
It would’ve been nice if you came.
Not:
I could’ve managed.
Not:
I would’ve figured something out.
Maybe you would have.
That’s not the point.
Maybe the truth is simply:
I needed you.
And you came.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Why does admitting that feel so vulnerable?
Because need acknowledges that another person’s presence mattered.
And once somebody matters, we can no longer pretend we’re completely self-contained.
But beloveds…
we were never meant to be self-contained.
Human beings need human beings.
Babies arrive needing somebody.
Children need somebody.
Adults need somebody.
Older people need somebody.
Grieving people need somebody.
Celebrating people need somebody.
Sick people need somebody.
Healthy people need somebody.
Strong people need somebody.
Weak people need somebody.
Even the person who insists:
βI DON’T NEED NOBODY!β
usually needs somebody to hear the announcement.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
We need one another.
Not every person.
Not every relationship.
Not without boundaries.
Not without wisdom.
But we need community.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU CAN NEED HELP WITHOUT LOSING YOURSELF
Receiving doesn’t mean surrendering your identity.
Receiving doesn’t mean becoming helpless.
Receiving doesn’t mean abandoning independence.
Receiving doesn’t mean everybody gets unlimited access to your life.
Receiving doesn’t mean you owe somebody control over you.
Receiving simply says:
βThere is something I cannotβor should not have toβcarry alone right now.β
And then:
βThank you for helping me carry it.β
That’s it.
β€οΈβπ₯
No shame ceremony required.
No emotional repayment schedule.
No thirty-page apology.
No:
βDear everybody, I regret to inform you that I have temporarily become a human being.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
You were human yesterday too.
You just needed less visible help.
β€οΈβπ₯ AND THEN THERE IS GRACE
Now we reach the heart of it.
Because everything we’ve been talking about with human love points me toward something much bigger.
Grace.
Grace is difficult for people who need to earn everything.
Because grace refuses our favorite arrangement.
We want:
Work β earn β deserve β receive.
Grace says:
Receive β be changed β respond.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
Scripture says:
βFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:β
βNot of works, lest any man should boast.β
β Ephesians 2:8β9, KJV
There it is.
Gift.
Not paycheck.
Not trophy.
Not reimbursement.
Gift.
And what do you do with a gift?
You receive it.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
But some of us keep trying to hand God a rΓ©sumΓ©.
Look what I’ve done.
Look how hard I’ve tried.
Look how useful I’ve been.
Look how many people I’ve helped.
Look how strong I’ve stayed.
And grace keeps saying:
Put the rΓ©sumΓ© down.
π
Because if grace could be earned…
it wouldn’t be grace.
β€οΈβπ₯ GOD IS NOT RUNNING AN EMOTIONAL COLLECTION AGENCY
Somebody needs this.
We sometimes receive God’s goodness and immediately think:
βNow I owe Him.β
But Christianity isn’t Jesus doing us a favor and then spending eternity saying:
βAfter everything I did for you…β
π
No.
Grace changes us precisely because it isn’t manipulation.
We don’t obey because we’re trying to pay Jesus back.
How could we?
What payment would equal the Cross?
What performance settles that account?
There isn’t one.
β€οΈβπ₯
We respond because love has changed what we desire.
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
β 1 John 4:19, KJV
There is that order again.
He first loved us.
Then…
we love.
Grace comes first.
Response follows.
β€οΈβπ₯ STOP TRYING TO PAY BACK LOVE. PASS IT ON.
Maybe that’s the shift.
When somebody loves us well, we don’t have to obsess over getting the balance back to zero.
We can allow love to keep moving.
Someone encourages me.
I receive it.
Later, I encourage somebody else.
Someone feeds me when I cannot manage.
I receive it.
Someday I find another way to nourish somebody else.
Someone sits beside me while I cry.
I receive it.
Later, somebody cries beside me…
and I don’t run from their tears.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Someone carries me.
I receive it.
Then one day, perhaps in a completely different way…
I carry somebody.
That’s not repayment.
That’s multiplication.
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Love wasn’t returned to sender.
Love kept traveling.
Imagine communities like that.
Nobody keeping perfect score.
Everybody giving according to ability.
Everybody receiving according to need.
Boundaries honored.
Gratitude expressed.
Manipulation rejected.
Shame refused.
People allowed to be human.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
One person saying:
βI have extra strength today. Lean on me.β
Another saying:
βThank you. I need it.β
And nobody losing dignity.
β€οΈβπ₯ MAYBE THE REAL CHALLENGE ISN’T RECEIVING HELP
Maybe it’s receiving love without editing ourselves first.
Not:
Love me after I get stronger.
Not:
Love me when I’m less complicated.
Not:
Love me once I can give more back.
Not:
Love me when I stop needing so much.
Not:
Love me when I become the old me again.
Just:
Love me here.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
HERE.
In this body.
In this season.
In this grief.
In this uncertainty.
In this rebuilding.
In this mess.
In this beginning again.
Here.
And perhaps somebody who genuinely loves you is saying:
βThat’s exactly where I’ve been trying to love you.β
WHEW.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE
Today, open your hands.
Literally, if you can.
Look at them.
And ask yourself:
βWhat love am I resisting because I don’t know how to repay it?β
Then ask:
βWhat would happen if I simply said thank you?β
No promise.
No apology.
No immediate return favor.
Just:
Thank you.
Let your heart sit there.
β€οΈ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE
Receive one thing today.
A compliment.
Help.
Encouragement.
Prayer.
Time.
Patience.
A hug.
A listening ear.
A kindness.
And instead of saying:
βYou shouldn’t have…β
try:
βThank you. That means a lot to me.β
Then let the moment finish.
Don’t chase love out of the room because receiving it makes you uncomfortable.
β€οΈβπ₯
π DAILY VICTORY
Today I will remember:
I can receive without becoming entitled.
I can be grateful without becoming indebted.
I can need help without becoming helpless.
I can accept love without surrendering healthy boundaries.
I can be carried without losing my dignity.
And:
I do not have to earn grace.
ππΎ MORNING PRAYER
Father,
Our hands are tired.
Some of us have been gripping everything so tightly.
Control.
Independence.
Fear.
Shame.
Old disappointments.
Old promises.
Old wounds.
The need to prove ourselves.
The need to repay everything.
The fear that receiving will make us weak.
Father…
teach us to open our hands.
ππΎ
Give us discernment about who we trust.
Give us boundaries where boundaries are needed.
Give us courage where fear has isolated us.
Give us humility where pride won’t let us ask.
Give us freedom where shame keeps calling us burdens.
And give us grace to receive love without immediately trying to earn it.
Thank You for the people who come.
Thank You for the people who stay.
Thank You for those who carry what we cannot carry today.
Help us appreciate them without turning ourselves into debts they must collect.
And Father…
thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for grace.
Thank You that salvation isn’t a paycheck we earn.
Thank You that love moved first.
Teach us to receive what You give…
and then allow that love to transform how we love the world.
Amen.
β€οΈβπ₯ππΎ
β€οΈβπ₯ BEFORE WE LEAVE THIS WEEK…
Beloveds,
We started with guilt.
I’m sorry I need you.
Then shame.
Something must be wrong with me because I need you.
Then fear.
What will I owe you?
Then vulnerability.
If I need you, you can hurt me.
Then performance.
If I’m not useful, will you still love me?
And now grace answers all of them:
Open your hands.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You do not have to apologize for every need.
You are not your difficult season.
Healthy love isn’t a loan.
Trust can grow wisely.
Your usefulness is not your entire worth.
And genuine grace cannot be purchased.
So maybe our prayer after this whole journey can become very simple:
Father, teach me to receive love without fear, give love without control, and recognize the difference between the two.
And when somebody comes running because we need them…
maybe we stop saying:
βI’m so sorry you had to.β
Maybe we look at them.
Really look.
And say:
βThank you for coming for me.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
No apology attached.
Maybe that’s enough.
Maybe…
that’s receiving.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

YOU DON’T HAVE TO PERFORM TO KEEP YOUR PLACE β€οΈβπ₯
AUGUST 22, 2026
YOU DON’T HAVE TO PERFORM TO KEEP YOUR PLACE β€οΈβπ₯
Who Are You When You Cannot Earn Love by Being Useful?
Beloveds,
I have another uncomfortable question for us this morning.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Have you ever wondered whetherpeople would still love you if you stopped being useful to them?
Not forever.
Just long enough that you couldn’t do what you’ve always done.
You couldn’t fix it.
Couldn’t pay for it.
Couldn’t organize it.
Couldn’t drive everybody.
Couldn’t cook.
Couldn’t clean.
Couldn’t work.
Couldn’t solve the problem.
Couldn’t be everybody’s emergency contact.
Couldn’t be the strong one.
Couldn’t be the person who always says:
βDon’t worry. I got it.β
What happens inside us when suddenly…
we don’t got it?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
For some of us, that question goes DEEP.
Because somewhere along the way, being helpful became more than something we did.
It became part of how we understood our value.
People needed us.
And being needed felt good.
People called us.
People depended on us.
People knew we would show up.
We were the fixer.
The encourager.
The caregiver.
The provider.
The responsible one.
The strong one.
The prayer warrior.
The funny one.
The one who held everybody together when everything started falling apart.
And without realizing it, we may have developed a quiet equation:
What I do for people = why I matter to people.
π
That’s dangerous math.
Because eventually life may ask a question we weren’t prepared to answer:
Who are you when you cannot do what you used to do?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ WHEN USEFULNESS BECOMES IDENTITY
There is absolutely nothing wrong with helping.
Serving is beautiful.
Giving is beautiful.
Caring for people is beautiful.
Working hard is beautiful.
Showing up is beautiful.
Jesus Himself taught us to serve.
But there is a difference between:
βServing is something I do because I love.β
and:
βServing is how I make myself worthy of love.β
WHEW.
β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Those can look exactly the same from the outside.
Both people may cook the meal.
Both may give the ride.
Both may solve the problem.
Both may stay late.
Both may say yes.
But inside?
One person is giving freely.
The other may be quietly asking:
βIf I stop doing this, will you still choose me?β
π
That’s not merely generosity anymore.
That’s an audition.
And beloveds…
you should not have to audition every morning for your place in the hearts of people who genuinely love you.
π SOMETIMES WE PERFORM WITHOUT REALIZING IT
Maybe your performance isn’t achievement.
Maybe it’s being agreeable.
You never complain.
Never ask for much.
Never inconvenience anybody.
Never say what you really need.
Because somewhere inside:
Easy people are easier to love.
Maybe your performance is strength.
Nobody gets to see you crumble.
Because:
Strong people don’t scare people away.
Maybe your performance is giving.
You make sure everybody owes you less than you owe them.
Because:
If I’m always contributing, nobody can call me a burden.
Maybe your performance is humor.
Everybody gets the joke.
Nobody gets the tears.
ππ
Maybe it’s caretaking.
You know everybody else’s needs before they speak them.
But when someone asks:
βWhat do YOU need?β
your whole brain suddenly goes:
Error 404. Request not found.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
We laugh.
But some of us know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.
β€οΈβπ₯ THEN LIFE CHANGES THE ASSIGNMENT
And this is where things can become painful.
Sometimes life takes away the very thing we used to prove our worth.
The worker can’t work.
The caregiver needs care.
The strong one becomes exhausted.
The healthy one becomes sick.
The person everybody leaned on suddenly needs something to lean against.
The financially secure person struggles.
The confident person loses confidence.
The encourager becomes discouraged.
The person who always had the answers finally whispers:
βI don’t know what to do.β
And if our identity was built entirely around usefulness…
this can feel like more than losing ability.
It can feel like losing value.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
That is where shame sneaks back in.
What good am I now?
What do I bring to anybody?
Everybody has to do things for me.
I’m not contributing enough.
I’m taking more than I’m giving.
They’ll eventually get tired of this.
And there it is again:
Performance.
Except now we’re terrified because we cannot perform at our previous level.
Beloved…
listen carefully.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOUR CAPACITY CHANGED. YOUR HUMAN VALUE DID NOT.
Those are different things.
Your capacity can fluctuate.
Your productivity can change.
Your income can change.
Your health can change.
Your mobility can change.
Your energy can change.
Your role in a family can change.
Your ability to care for others can change.
Your ability to work can change.
Your ability to contribute in familiar ways can change.
None of those measurements can adequately measure a human soul.
β€οΈβπ₯
Maybe you cannot give what you once gave.
That does not mean you give nothing.
Your presence matters.
Your story matters.
Your laughter matters.
Your wisdom matters.
Your listening matters.
Your honesty matters.
Your experience matters.
Your prayers matter.
Your affection matters.
Your encouragement matters.
Your existence matters to people who love you.
And sometimes?
You don’t have to produce ANYTHING in a particular moment.
You are allowed to simply be.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
That word can be terrifying for performers.
BE.
Not accomplish.
Not fix.
Not prove.
Not earn.
Not rescue.
Not impress.
Not compensate.
Just…
be.
β€οΈβπ₯ LOVE SHOULD HAVE ROOM FOR YOUR HUMANITY
Healthy love does not mean people never have expectations of us.
Relationships require responsibility.
Promises matter.
Commitments matter.
Effort matters.
Reciprocity matters.
This isn’t permission to neglect everybody and announce:
βWell, Cassandra said I don’t have to perform!β
ABSOLUTELY NOT. ππ
Don’t put that foolishness on me.
I’m talking about something entirely different.
I’m talking about the belief that:
If I cannot constantly produce value, I cease to HAVE value.
No.
Responsibility says:
βI should contribute according to my ability and commitments.β
Performance-based worth says:
βIf my ability decreases, my worth decreases with it.β
That’s the lie we’re confronting.
β€οΈβπ₯
π LET PEOPLE LOVE THE PERSON, NOT JUST THE FUNCTION
This may be one of the hardest parts.
If you have spent years being the helper, people may genuinely love helping YOU.
Read that again.
Someone may feel honored to finally give something back.
Someone may have watched you pour and pour and pour.
And now they get to say:
βSit down. I’ve got this.β
And your entire nervous system may respond:
ABSOLUTELY NOT. GIVE ME THAT DISH TOWEL.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Because sitting feels wrong.
Receiving feels wrong.
Not contributing feels wrong.
But perhaps the person helping you isn’t thinking:
Look how useless they are.
Maybe they’re thinking:
βFinally. Let me love you for a minute.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
And if you constantly snatch the opportunity away because you need to prove you’re still useful…
you may accidentally prevent somebody from expressing their love in the way THEY chose.
Sometimes receiving is generosity too.
Because receiving says:
βI trust your love enough to let you give it.β
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU DON’T HAVE TO PAY RENT FOR YOUR PLACE IN SOMEONE’S HEART
Oh, somebody needs that sentence today.
You do not have to pay emotional rent every month to remain worthy of healthy love.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You don’t have to constantly ask:
Have I done enough?
Have I given enough?
Have I been useful enough?
Have I been easy enough?
Have I been strong enough?
Have I caused too much trouble?
Healthy love isn’t a landlord standing at the door on the first of every month:
βWhere’s this month’s usefulness?β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
No.
Relationships need nurturing.
But love isn’t supposed to require constant proof that you deserve to exist inside it.
ππΎ JESUS AND THE LOVE THAT COMES FIRST
And this is where grace confronts our entire performance system.
Scripture says:
βBut God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.β
β Romans 5:8, KJV
Notice when the love came.
Not after everything was fixed.
Not after everybody performed beautifully.
Not after humanity finally became impressive enough.
While we were yet sinners.
Love moved first.
β€οΈβπ₯
And another Scripture says:
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
β 1 John 4:19, KJV
Again…
Look at the order.
He first loved us.
Then love flows from us.
Not:
Perform β earn love β maintain performance β hopefully remain loved.
But:
Loved β receive β become transformed β love flows outward.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
That order changes everything.
Because service becomes a RESPONSE to love instead of an APPLICATION for love.
WHEW.
Read THAT again.
Service should be a response to loveβnot an application for love.
β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
I don’t love so somebody will finally decide I’m valuable.
I love because love has already taught me something about my value and theirs.
I don’t serve God to convince Him to keep me.
I serve because I belong to Him.
I don’t care for people so they will never leave.
I care because loving people is part of who I want to become.
Now giving can breathe.
Now receiving can breathe.
Now love doesn’t have to carry the weight of proving that I deserve to exist.
β€οΈβπ₯ THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE
Ask yourself:
βWhat do I believe I must continually DO so people will keep loving me?β
Be specific.
Be honest.
Maybe:
I have to be useful.
I have to be strong.
I have to say yes.
I have to fix everything.
I have to keep everybody happy.
I have to hide my needs.
I have to make people laugh.
I have to never become inconvenient.
Then ask:
βWho would I be if I stopped auditioning?β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Sit with that.
β€οΈ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE
Today, allow yourself one moment where you don’t earn your place.
Sit with someone.
Receive a phone call.
Accept a compliment.
Let somebody help.
Laugh.
Rest.
Exist.
And when the voice says:
βYou should be doing something…β
answer:
βBeing human is something.β
β€οΈβπ₯
π DAILY VICTORY
Today I will remember:
My usefulness may change.
My capacity may change.
My circumstances may change.
My roles may change.
But I refuse to measure my entire worth by what I can produce for other people.
ππΎ MORNING PRAYER
Father,
Some of us have spent years trying to earn what we desperately wanted to receive freely.
Love.
Belonging.
Safety.
Acceptance.
A place.
We became useful.
Strong.
Dependable.
Easy.
Quiet.
Funny.
Productive.
Necessary.
And somewhere along the way, some of us forgot how to simply be Your children.
Teach us.
Help us serve from love instead of serving for love.
Help us give without auditioning.
Help us receive without shame.
Help us rest without believing we’ve become worthless.
Help us recognize the difference between healthy responsibility and desperate performance.
And when our capacity changes, remind us:
Our identity is bigger than our output.
For everyone waking up today wondering:
βWhat good am I now?β
meet them there.
Remind them that a changed life is still a life.
A changed body is still worthy of dignity.
A changed role does not mean no role.
A person who needs care still has love to give.
And a person who has nothing to give today…
is still a person worth loving today.
Amen.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
Maybe you’ve spent your whole life making yourself indispensable because somewhere deep inside you believed:
If they need me enough, they won’t leave me.
But being needed and being loved are not always the same thing.
And perhaps this season is inviting us into something deeper.
Not:
βKeep me because I’m useful.β
But:
βKnow me. Love me. Let me know and love you too.β
No audition.
No performance review.
No monthly emotional rent.
Just people learning how to love each other honestly.
Sometimes giving.
Sometimes receiving.
Sometimes carrying.
Sometimes being carried.
And sometimes simply sitting beside one another saying:
βI’m glad you’re here.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that sentence is enough for today.
You don’t have to perform to keep your place.
And tomorrow…
we bring this whole week home.
Because after guilt…
after shame…
after fear of being a burden…
after strings…
after vulnerability…
after performance…
there remains one final terrifying invitation:
OPEN YOUR HANDS.
Grace cannot be earned.
It can only be received.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

One step. One step. One step. You are loved. You are NOT alone. Keep on beingβ¦YOU! β€οΈβπ₯π
I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND, SO ARE YOU! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯

I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND SO ARE YOU! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
I have been thinking about the words we use to describe ourselves.
And today, I need to tell you what I see when I look at me.
I’M ABLE.
That does not mean pretending there are things I cannot currently do.
There are.
It does not mean denying that life changed.
It did.
It does not mean I don’t need assistance sometimes, accommodations sometimes, different tools sometimes, more time sometimes, or another person beside me sometimes.
I do.
But somewhere along the way, we started confusing needing a different way with having no way at all.
π Read that again.
Different is not less.
Assistance is not absence of ability.
Adaptation is not defeat.
And needing help does not erase what I CAN do.
I use a wheelchair. But, mostly, my trusty quad cane. I do. NOT feel bad about needing them
Still, I’m able. π©βπ¦½
I have had to relearn things I once did without thinking.
And, I’m able.
Sometimes my body requires creativity where it once required instinct.
Still able.
Sometimes somebody has to help me.
STILL. ABLE.
Because ability doesn’t disappear simply because it changes clothes.
Maybe I cannot do something the way I did before.
Okay.
Then the question becomes:
How CAN I do it now? π
That question has changed something in me.
Instead of standing at the graveyard of everything that changed, I am learning to walkβroll, crawl, adapt, laugh, pray, improvise, whatever it takesβtoward everything that remains possible.
And there is SO MUCH POSSIBLE. π³π
Beloveds, maybe somebody has spent too much time telling you what you cannot do.
Maybe life changed your body.
Maybe age changed your pace.
Maybe illness changed your routine.
Maybe grief changed your capacity.
Maybe circumstances changed the route you thought you would travel.
Maybe you need accommodations.
Maybe you need somebody’s hand.
Maybe your victory looks completely different from somebody else’s.
SO WHAT?!!
We are done measuring human worth by independence.
We are done treating help like humiliation.
We are done believing there is only one respectable way to move through this world.
And we are definitely done allowing the things that became difficult to introduce themselves as the definition of who we are.
No.
π Look again.
I am not a list of things that became harder.
I am a whole human being discovering new ways to live.
I am learning.
I am adapting.
I am creating.
I am loving.
I am writing.
I am laughing.
I am reaching.
I am recovering.
I am becoming.
I am planting. π³
I am eating the grapes. ππ€£
I am finding keys to doors I once thought were permanently locked. π
And sometimes I’m rolling through those doors instead of walking through them.
BABY, THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. π©βπ¦½πβ€οΈβπ₯
And yours may be too.
So don’t let anybodyβincluding the frightened voice inside your own headβreduce your entire existence to what you cannot do today.
Ask another question:
WHAT CAN I DO?
Then ask:
WHAT CAN I LEARN?
Then:
WHAT CAN I ADAPT?
And finally:
WHO MIGHT I BECOME IF I STOPPED MEASURING MY FUTURE BY YESTERDAY’S METHODS?
Whew. β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds, ability comes in more forms than we were taught to recognize.
Sometimes strength stands.
Sometimes strength sits.
Sometimes strength runs.
Sometimes strength rolls.
Sometimes strength speaks loudly.
Sometimes strength struggles to get the sentence outβand finishes it anyway.
Sometimes strength does everything alone.
And sometimes the bravest, strongest words in the room are:
βI need some help.β
All of it counts.
So today I’m changing the emphasis.
Don’t look at me and only see what changed.
π LOOK AT WHAT REMAINED.
Better yetβ
LOOK AT WHAT IS GROWING. π³π³π³
I’m able, beloveds.
AND SO ARE YOU. β€οΈβπ₯
Now let’s find out what our able looks like.
One step.
One adaptation.
One grape.
One key.
One gloriously unconventional way forward at a time. πππ³π©βπ¦½π

IAM HERE!

I. AM. HERE! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯π
Beloveds,
Look at this picture.
Noβreally.
LOOK.
I am standing.
But this post isn’t about standing.
Because some of us have spent far too long measuring life by what our bodies can do, what we’ve lost, what has changed, what takes longer now, or what somebody else thinks recovery is supposed to look like.
This picture says something much simpler.
I. AM. HERE.
Not the woman I was before everything changed.
Not some imaginary future version of me who has finally recovered enough to deserve celebration.
ME.
Here.
Now.
Alive.
Learning.
Growing.
Laughing.
Crying sometimes.
Getting frustrated sometimes.
Needing help sometimes.
Doing things differently sometimes.
And still completely, undeniably ME.
π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯
I have learned something about survival:
Sometimes we become so focused on getting back to where we were that we miss the miracle of discovering who we are becoming.
I don’t want to spend my life waiting to celebrate myself until everything works the way it once did.
I don’t want to postpone joy until recovery checks every box.
And I refuse to treat my life today like a waiting room for a supposedly better life tomorrow.
THIS IS MY LIFE.
And I am living it.
My wheelchair doesn’t erase me.
Needing assistance doesn’t erase me.
Doing something differently doesn’t make the accomplishment smaller.
A difficult day doesn’t cancel my progress.
And what my body cannot do today does not get to write the definition of who I am.
Different is not less.
Please hear that, beloveds.
Because maybe your life changed too.
Maybe your body changed.
Your family changed.
Your career changed.
Your plans changed.
Your finances changed.
Your relationships changed.
Your confidence changed.
Maybe something happened that divided your life into before and after.
And maybe you’ve been staring backward, wondering when you’re finally going to feel like yourself again.
What if becoming yourself again doesn’t mean becoming exactly who you were?
What if there is still life here?
Love here.
Purpose here.
Laughter here.
Beauty here.
Growth here.
God here.
YOU here.
Jesus/The Father has been teaching me that I do not have to despise today’s Cassandra while waiting for tomorrow’s Cassandra.
I can love her now.
Celebrate her now.
Take her picture now.
Let her laugh now.
Let her dream now.
Let her live now.
Because she did not disappear when her circumstances changed.
And neither did you.
βI shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.β β Psalm 118:17 KJV
That scripture hits differently these days…
I SHALL LIVE.
Not merely exist.
Not merely endure.
Not merely spend every day cataloging what changed.
LIVE.
π³ Grow.
π Taste what is still good.
π Dance however dancing looks today.
π Open the doors that are in front of you instead of spending your whole life staring at the ones that closed.
β€οΈβπ₯ Love fiercely.
π Remember your worth.
And when fear, grief, shame, comparison, disability, disappointment, or somebody else’s expectations try to reduce your entire existence to what you cannot doβ
look them square in the face and say:
I. AM. HERE.
I am not an inconvenience.
I am not yesterday’s version of myself gone wrong.
I am not a list of limitations.
I am not waiting for permission to call this life beautiful.
I survived enough to get HERE.
And HERE deserves my presence.
HERE deserves my gratitude.
HERE deserves my laughter.
HERE deserves my dreams.
HERE deserves my love.
And HERE deserves yours too.
So today’s challenge is ridiculously simple:
Show up for the life you actually have.
Not someday.
Not when everything gets fixed.
Not when you finally feel ready.
Today.
Take the picture.
Eat the grape. π
Laugh loudly.
Use the help.
Try again.
Rest when you need to.
Celebrate the inch instead of mourning the mile.
And belovedβ
BE HERE.
Because you are still becoming.
And your story is still moving.

Note: Many will look at this πΈ and feel sorry for me. Don’t pity me. I love me some me. It took time to get there but…I. AM. HERE!
One step.
One step.
One step.
You are loved. You are NOT alone.
Keep on beingβ¦YOU!
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours. β€οΈβπ₯π
GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION, BELOVEDS. πβ€οΈβπ₯
GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION, BELOVEDS. πβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
Give yourself permission.
I’m learning how.
I’m tired.
I’m recovering.
And apparently, after everything life has taught me about surviving, pushing, helping, producing, showing up, loving people and continuing when I didn’t think I had anything left…
I now have to learn something that sounds ridiculously simple:
How to rest.
Not collapse.
Not finally stop because my body leaves me no other choice.
Not lie down while my mind keeps working three shifts.
Not βrestβ while feeling guilty about everything I’m not accomplishing.
Actually.
Rest.
π
And I am learning that those are very different things.
Sometimes we become so accustomed to surviving that stopping feels irresponsible.
We tell ourselves:
One more thing.
One more person needs me.
One more message.
One more problem.
One more task.
One more grape.
Okay, perhaps that last one is just me. ππ
But eventually our bodies, minds, and hearts begin whispering what we have been too busy to hear:
I’m tired.
And Beloveds, perhaps those aren’t words we need to be ashamed of.
I’m tired.
I’m not feeling my best. βοΈπ€
I need rest.
Those aren’t declarations of defeat.
They are information.
And I’m learning to listen.
Because somewhere inside me, I think I learned how to respect everybody else’s needs before I learned how to respect my own.
I could understand why you needed a break.
I could encourage you to slow down.
I could tell you that your worth wasn’t measured by productivity.
Then Jesus/The Father turned those words around and handed them back to me.
βIt’s okay, Cassandra.β
πβ€οΈ
It’s okay to stop.
It’s okay not to produce today.
It’s okay if somebody else carries something.
It’s okay if the world keeps turning without my supervision. ππ
It’s okay if healing sometimes looks like doing absolutely nothing impressive.
It’s okay if today’s victory is:
I listened when my body said enough.
π©βπ¦½π
And perhaps somebody reading this needs permission too.
So here.
Take some of mine.
You may rest.
You don’t have to finish everything first.
You don’t have to deserve it.
You don’t have to become completely exhausted before rest becomes legitimate.
You don’t have to explain why you’re tired.
You don’t have to apologize because your capacity today isn’t what it was yesterday.
And you certainly don’t have to compare your need for rest with somebody else’s.
Your body is yours.
Your mind is yours.
Your circumstances are yours.
Listen to them.
β€οΈβπ₯
Rest is not necessarily what happens when strength runs out.
Sometimes rest is how we honor the strength we still have.
π
That is something I’m learning in recovery.
I spent so much time looking at what my body could and couldn’t do.
Could I move this?
Could I accomplish that?
Could I regain this?
Could I push a little harder?
But maybe another recovery question deserves equal space:
Can I hear myself when I need tenderness?
Can I stop without calling myself lazy?
Can I receive care without calling myself burdensome?
Can I leave something unfinished without turning unfinished into failure?
Can I believe that my life still matters when I am producing absolutely nothing?
I’m learning.
π
One little grape at a time.
And today one of those grapes is:
Rest before you have completely emptied yourself.
Maybe that’s wisdom.
Maybe that’s healing.
Maybe that’s another chain breaking.
βοΈ
Because we don’t have to spend our lives proving how much we can endure.
Sometimes courage says:
Keep going.
And sometimes courage whispers:
βThat’s enough for today.β
π₯°
π βCome unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.β β Matthew 11:28 (KJV)
Notice that.
βI will give you rest.β
A gift.
And gifts are meant to be received.
Oh.
There is that word again.
Receive.
β€οΈβπ₯
Maybe receiving love and receiving rest aren’t as different as I thought.
Both require open hands.
Both require me to stop proving.
Both ask me to believe I am worthy of care even when I am not the one providing it.
So today I’m practicing.
No grand accomplishment.
No heroic recovery story.
Just:
βIt’s okay, Cassandra.β
And me finally answering:
βOkay. I believe You.β
πβ€οΈ
Beloveds, perhaps you can give yourself permission too.
Rest.
Breathe.
Receive.
Let something remain unfinished.
The world does not need you destroyed in order to prove that you cared about it.
πβ€οΈ
You matter while you’re working.
You matter while you’re helping.
You matter while you’re creating.
And yesβ
you matter while you’re asleep.
π
Give yourself permission, beloveds.
I’m learning how too.
One step.
One breath.
One grape.
π
And sometimes…
one beautiful, unapologetic nap.
π΄π
