WHAT IF I BECOME TOO EXPENSIVE TO LOVE? ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
This one hurts.
Because Jesus/The Father have been walking us underneath guilt.
Underneath independence.
Underneath our desperate need to be useful.
And maybe underneath all of that is a fear some of us have never said aloud:
βWhat if loving me eventually costs too much?β
ππ
Not money.
Heart.
Time.
Energy.
Patience.
Plans.
Convenience.
Sleep.
Attention.
What if I need too much?
What if my healing takes too long?
What if my grief keeps showing up?
What if I can’t bounce back according to everybody else’s preferred schedule?
What if I need somebody again tomorrow?
And next week?
And after everybody has finished saying, βI’m here if you need me,β what happens when I actually need them?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s why some of us apologize constantly.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry you had to come.
I’m sorry this took so long.
I’m sorry I needed you.
I’m sorry you had to change your plans.
I’m sorry I’m crying again.
I’m sorry I’m not myself.
I’m sorry I’m still struggling.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry.
I’m sorry for being expensive to love.
π
And perhaps Jesus/The Father interrupt:
βBeloved, who taught you that love keeps an invoice?β
πππβ€οΈβπ₯
Because maybe somewhere along the way, doing felt safer than needing.
If I do everything myself, nobody gets tired because of me.
If I don’t ask, nobody can resent the request.
If I don’t need, nobody gets the opportunity to decide that my needs are too much.
If I keep giving, perhaps nobody will notice how desperately I need to receive.
And if I make myself useful enoughβ
maybe nobody will regret keeping me around.
WHEW.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds, that isn’t just independence.
Sometimes that’s fear wearing work clothes.
Fear can look remarkably responsible.
Fear gets things DONE.
Fear says:
βDon’t ask anybody. Handle it.β
Fear says:
βDon’t let them see how bad it really is.β
Fear says:
βHurry up and get better before everybody gets tired.β
Fear says:
βMake yourself useful.β
Fear says:
βGive something back QUICKLY.β
Because fear believes:
If I receive more than I give for too long, somebody may decide I’m no longer worth the cost.
π
But Jesus/The Father are challenging that accounting system.
Not by telling us relationships don’t require reciprocity.
They do.
Healthy love needs respect.
Gratitude.
Communication.
Boundaries.
Care in both directions.
But love is not always perfectly balanced in every season.
Sometimes you carry me.
Sometimes I carry you.
Sometimes we walk beside each other.
And sometimes, Belovedβ
I simply cannot carry my end today.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
That doesn’t automatically make me a burden.
It makes me human.
And perhaps the hardest thing for some of us to learn is this:
Being carried does not mean you have become the weight.
πππ
Read THAT again.
You can require assistance without becoming an inconvenience.
You can require patience without becoming a problem.
You can require tenderness without becoming weak.
You can receive more during one season without becoming less valuable.
And somebody can become tired while helping you without their tiredness meaning:
βI wish you didn’t exist.β
β€οΈβπ₯
WHEW.
Some of us needed that sentence.
Because we watch everybody’s faces.
Don’t we?
π
Was that sigh because of me?
Are they tired of me?
Did I ask too much?
Did their voice sound different?
Should I stop asking?
Should I figure this out myself?
Maybe I shouldn’t have called.
Maybeβ
Beloved.
Come back.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Jesus/The Father aren’t asking us to ignore people’s boundaries.
They’re teaching us not to turn every human limitation into a verdict on our worth.
Someone can love you and be tired.
Someone can love you and need rest.
Someone can love you and occasionally say no.
Someone can love you and have needs of their own.
Their boundary does not automatically mean:
βYou became too much.β
And your need does not automatically mean:
βYou failed.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
But there is something even deeper here.
Maybe we’re more comfortable being needed than being wanted.
Because being needed gives us something to do.
Fix something.
Carry something.
Encourage somebody.
Make somebody laugh.
Solve the problem.
Pray.
Work.
Serve.
Give.
We know exactly what to do with:
βI need you.β
But what happens when somebody says:
βI just want you here.β
π
No assignment.
No performance.
No problem to solve.
No payment required.
Justβ
you.
And suddenly we don’t know where to put our hands.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Because if there’s nothing to do, nothing to earn and nothing to prove, we’re left standing in front of the question:
βIs who I am enough reason for somebody to stay?β
π
And perhaps Jesus/The Father whisper:
βYes.β
Before you helped anybody.
Yes.
Before you became strong.
Yes.
Before you learned how to make everybody laugh.
Yes.
Before you accomplished anything.
Yes.
Before you got yourself together.
Yes.
When you are giving.
Yes.
When you are receiving.
Yes.
When you are standing.
Yes.
When you have to be carried.
Yes.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
βFor God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Sonβ¦β
β John 3:16 KJV
Notice the order.
He loved.
Then He gave.
Love wasn’t waiting at the finish line after we became impressive enough.
Love moved first.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s what Jesus/The Father are teaching us.
βBeloved, you keep trying to give Us reasons to love you.
Our love was here before your reasons.β
WHEW.
So maybe the question today isn’t:
βWhat can I do so people will keep loving me?β
Maybe it’s:
βCan I believe I’m worth loving when I have nothing to offer today except myself?β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
CASSANDRA CHALLENGE β€οΈβπ₯
Catch yourself trying to pay emotional rent today.
When you feel yourself scrambling to prove that you’re worth the troubleβ
stop.
Don’t immediately perform.
Don’t immediately promise repayment.
Don’t immediately apologize for needing.
Try:
βThank you for being here.β
Then allow the moment to remain unfinished.
No transaction.
No invoice.
Just love received.
And tonight, perhaps sit with Jesus/The Father and ask:
βWhy am I more comfortable being needed than simply being wanted?β
ππ
Then listen.
Because perhaps Jesus/The Father have something extraordinarily tender to say:
βBeloved, We did not come because you were useful to Us.
We came because We love you.
You don’t have to work while you’re being held.β
πππβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe you’ve spent years asking:
βWhat can I do for love?β
And now Jesus/The Father are asking:
βWill you finally let love do something for you?β
πππβ€οΈβπ₯
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

Beloveds, I’ll BE the storm for you. π call on me.

giving all that I have and am,
Cassandra
However long I have, you shall have my heart/my love, beloveds.

Beloveds,
This is a tough day, a tough week, a tough year.
Still, I rise.
Still, I try.
Again.
And, yet…
These are photos of my brain π§ . The white areas are where the stroke happened.
They said my brain was on π₯ fire. Burning what it could devour. Initially, I was completely paralyzed. I couldn’t speak. I could hear everything.
I found myself yelling ” I’m coming “at the top of my π« lungs. No one could hear my silent, my tortured, my horrifying screams.
More on that later…
Tonight I stopped by to encourage someone. Starting with me.

I don’t ask why me. I HAVE wondered why the hard must be so damnably hard ALL day.
Yet, I fight on. So, too must you. Recently, I have had a major setback. They say my brain is burning embers causing my body to experience the same symptoms as before. At first, I freaked out. I hollered ” OH, God not AGAIN “
I couldn’t bear weight on my right leg. My left was fine. I was in excruciating pain.
After. The MRI showed no NEW stroke I was told I may have to live this way for the rest of my days.
Now, when I’m tired I can barely speak due to numb left cheek. Still, I have π calls I have to make. Sis and niece no longer do anything I can do myself.
Now, I can finally get on my potty chair. I call it The Potty Wars.βΊοΈπ€
I have gotten down to an hour. Last week it took three hours. Egads.
My life would have been easier if the stroke affected the other side so I could use my right hand.
Life said HA! DEAL WITH WHATYOU HAVE NOW.

So, I deal. I have to. So, do you!
We got this.

Life is NOT over!

I copied all the images for things I have planned for you. Yet, a stroke interrupted my life, my plans
Don’t know if I’ll get to finish.
However long I have, you shall have my heart/my love, beloveds.
I love you. Be encouraged.
loving you for the rest of my life, with the best of my life,
Cassandra

You are NOT alone.

FROM THEIR HEART TO OURS β€οΈβπ₯
Beloved, You Can Stop Trying to Earn What We Already Desire to Give You
Beloveds,
Today, we’re going to be quiet.
No teaching first.
No fixing.
No proving.
No trying to impress God with how well we’re handling everything.
Just…
come.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Imagine setting everything down for a moment.
The guilt.
The shame.
The fear that you’re asking too much.
The embarrassment about what you cannot do.
The worry about everybody who’s helping you.
The questions about whether you’re becoming a burden.
The frantic need to prove that you’re still useful.
The old fear that love always comes with strings.
Set it down.
And hear the heart Scripture reveals to us from the Father and Jesus.
β€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, COME.
You keep thinking you have to get yourself together before you come close.
But Jesus already told us:
βCome unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.β
β Matthew 11:28, KJV
Not:
Come when you’re stronger.
Come.
Not:
Come when you’ve stopped crying.
Come.
Not:
Come when you’re useful again.
Come.
Not:
Come after you’ve cleaned up the mess.
Come.
Not:
Come when you finally have something impressive to offer.
Just…
come.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You’ve spent so much time wondering what you can bring to God.
Maybe today the answer is:
yourself.
Tired.
Confused.
Grateful.
Angry.
Hopeful.
Scared.
Healing.
Hurting.
Laughing one minute and crying the next.
Still figuring things out.
Still learning how to receive.
Come anyway.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU DO NOT HAVE TO APOLOGIZE FOR NEEDING US
Some of us have been apologizing our way through life.
I’m sorry I need help.
I’m sorry I’m tired.
I’m sorry I can’t do what I used to.
I’m sorry I’m crying again.
I’m sorry I’m not stronger yet.
I’m sorry everybody has to help me.
And Scripture keeps showing us a God who invites needy people closer.
βCasting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.β
β 1 Peter 5:7, KJV
All your care.
Not only the respectable worries.
Not only the spiritual ones.
Not only the problems you think are big enough to bother God with.
All.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
What if the Father isn’t standing over you irritated because you need Him again?
What if He is exactly who Scripture says He is?
A Father.
And what if Jesus isn’t exhausted by the fact that you’re still learning?
What if grace anticipated that?
β€οΈβπ₯ WE KNEW YOU WOULD NEED GRACE BEFORE YOU EVER NEEDED IT
Grace wasn’t God’s emergency backup plan after humanity became messy.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
He knew.
He knew we would stumble.
He knew we would hurt.
He knew we would need forgiveness.
He knew we would become frightened.
He knew we would become exhausted.
He knew some days our prayers would sound magnificent…
and other days they’d sound like:
βJesus. Help.β
πππΎ
And somehow two words can still be prayer.
Sometimes one word can.
Jesus.
Sometimes tears themselves seem to carry what language cannot.
You don’t have to perform spirituality either.
β€οΈβπ₯ STOP BRINGING US YOUR RΓSUMΓ
Some of us keep approaching God with our list.
Look how faithful I’ve been.
Look how much I’ve served.
Look how much I’ve given.
Look how many people I’ve helped.
Look how hard I’ve tried.
And those things can be beautiful.
But beloved…
they aren’t currency for purchasing the Father’s love.
β€οΈβπ₯
Scripture says:
βFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:β
βNot of works, lest any man should boast.β
β Ephesians 2:8β9, KJV
Gift.
There is that word again.
Gift.
And some of us don’t know what to do with gifts.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
We know what to do with wages.
Earn them.
We know what to do with debts.
Repay them.
We know what to do with contracts.
Fulfill them.
But a gift?
A gift leaves us standing there with empty hands.
And perhaps that’s exactly where grace wants us.
Not empty because we are worthless.
Empty because:
there is finally room to receive.
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, WE ARE NOT ASHAMED OF YOUR NEED
You may be ashamed.
God isn’t surprised.
You may look at your weakness and think:
βSurely this makes me less valuable.β
But Jesus has never needed your strength in order to be strong.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Read that again.
Jesus does not need you to pretend to be strong so He can remain Savior.
You are allowed to need saving.
You are allowed to need carrying.
You are allowed to need comfort.
You are allowed to need mercy.
You are allowed to need rest.
You are allowed to need Him.
In fact…
that’s the whole point.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU KEEP TRYING TO CARRY WHAT WE KEEP ASKING YOU TO RELEASE
Somebody needs this.
You’ve prayed about it…
then picked it back up.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Lord, I give this to You.
Five minutes later:
WHERE DID I PUT THAT WORRY?
ππΎββοΈππ
Right back in the bag.
Back on the shoulder.
Back into the mind.
Back into the 3:17 a.m. emergency meeting nobody invited Jesus to.
Beloved…
put it down again.
And if you pick it up tomorrow?
Put it down tomorrow.
Grace is patient enough for repetition.
β€οΈβπ₯ WE ARE NOT KEEPING THE SCORE YOU THINK WE ARE
Maybe you’ve imagined the Father with a ledger.
Good day.
Bad day.
Strong day.
Weak day.
Faithful day.
Messy day.
Prayer completed.
Prayer forgotten.
Bible read.
Bible untouched.
Kind words.
Bad attitude.
Excellent Tuesday.
Absolute foolishness Wednesday.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
And accountability matters.
Repentance matters.
Growth matters.
Obedience matters.
But none of those means the Father’s love fluctuates every morning according to your performance.
Scripture says:
βBut God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.β
β Romans 5:8, KJV
While we were yet sinners.
Before the cleanup.
Before the improvement.
Before the impressive testimony.
Love moved first.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ JESUS: I ALREADY KNEW THE COST
Maybe this is where the fear of strings attached finally meets the Cross.
We’ve been asking:
βWhat will this love cost me later?β
And Jesus points us toward Calvary.
The cost wasn’t hidden.
He knew it.
He chose it.
βGreater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.β
β John 15:13, KJV
β€οΈβπ₯
The Cross isn’t Jesus giving us something so He can manipulate us later.
The Cross reveals sacrificial love.
Grace doesn’t say:
βNow spend your life trying to pay Me back.β
Grace says:
βFollow Me.β
There is a difference.
One is debt.
The other is relationship.
One says:
Repay.
The other says:
Come with Me.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ THE FATHER: YOU ARE MY CHILD, NOT MY EMPLOYEE
Some of us understand employment better than sonship or daughterhood.
Employees earn wages.
Employees prove productivity.
Employees receive performance reviews.
Employees can be replaced when they stop producing.
So sometimes we unconsciously bring that model into our relationship with God.
What did I accomplish for You today?
But family asks another question:
Whose are you?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Before you accomplished today’s list…
His.
When you got tired halfway through…
His.
When you cried…
His.
When you needed help…
His.
When somebody had to carry you…
His.
When you finally did something you couldn’t do yesterday…
His.
When tomorrow turns out harder again…
still His.
β€οΈβπ₯ JESUS: LET ME WASH YOUR FEET
Oh, this one.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Peter struggled with receiving too.
When Jesus came to wash his feet, Peter resisted:
βThou shalt never wash my feet.β
β John 13:8, KJV
Does that sound familiar?
No, no. I’ll do it.
You don’t have to do that for me.
I’ll handle it.
Let me serve YOU.
And Jesus challenged Peter to receive.
Sometimes humility isn’t kneeling down to serve.
Sometimes humility is remaining seated while love kneels in front of you.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
WHEW.
Some of us can wash everybody’s feet.
But when somebody reaches for ours?
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Because serving feels holy.
Receiving feels vulnerable.
But Jesus demonstrated both.
And perhaps He is teaching us:
You cannot follow the way of love while refusing to ever occupy the receiver’s chair.
β€οΈβπ₯ BELOVED, SIT THERE.
Don’t jump up yet.
Don’t grab the towel.
Don’t say:
βOkay, now it’s my turn.β
Sit.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Let yourself be served.
Let yourself be loved.
Let yourself be comforted.
Let somebody pray for YOU.
Let somebody encourage YOU.
Let somebody bring YOU something.
Let somebody make the phone call.
Let somebody drive.
Let somebody sit beside you.
Let somebody say:
βI’ve got this part.β
And don’t immediately answer:
βButββ
No but.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Sit.
Receive.
β€οΈβπ₯ FROM THEIR HEART TO OURS
If we gathered the invitations of Scripture into one place, perhaps this is what our hearts need to hear today:
Come.
Cast your cares.
Receive grace.
Let Me give you rest.
Let Me love you first.
Let Me serve you.
Let Me carry what you cannot.
Then, when you have received love, go love somebody else.
Not to repay Me.
Not to prove yourself.
Not to purchase your place.
But because love received eventually becomes love overflowing.
πβ€οΈβπ₯π
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
β 1 John 4:19, KJV
There it is.
The whole thing.
He first loved us.
We receive.
Then…
we love.
ππΎ OUR RESPONSE
Father…
we have spent so much time trying to prove ourselves.
We’re tired.
Jesus…
we have resisted having our feet washed.
We thought strength meant always being the one holding the towel.
Forgive us where pride has kept our hands closed.
Heal us where hurt has kept them closed.
Comfort us where shame has kept them closed.
Give us wisdom where past manipulation taught us to fear every gift.
And then…
slowly…
gently…
teach us to open our hands.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
We receive Your grace.
We receive Your mercy.
We receive Your correction.
We receive Your comfort.
We receive Your rest.
We receive the trustworthy people You place around us.
We receive help without calling ourselves helpless.
We receive love without calling ourselves burdens.
And when guilt says:
βYou need to pay this back,β
remind us that gratitude can simply say:
βThank You.β
Father…
Thank You.
Jesus…
Thank You.
For coming.
For staying.
For carrying.
For loving first.
For loving still.
And for teaching us how to love because we finally learned how to receive Yours.
Amen.
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds…
Maybe today there is no Cassandra Challenge.
No homework.
No assignment.
Maybe today receiving IS the assignment.
Sit there.
Let Them love you.
Let grace finish its sentence before guilt interrupts.
And when your heart finally finds words…
just whisper:
βThank You, Father.β
βThank You, Jesus.β
βI receive.β
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
From His heart to ours.
From our hearts to yours.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,

β€οΈβπ₯OPEN YOUR HANDS β€οΈβπ₯
AUGUST 23, 2026
OPEN YOUR HANDS β€οΈβπ₯
Grace Cannot Be Earned. Love Must Sometimes Be Received.
Beloveds,
We’ve spent several days talking about receiving love.
And after everything we’ve uncovered, I think we’re finally ready for the question underneath all the others:
Can you receive something you cannot repay?
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Not borrow.
Not earn.
Not exchange.
Not deserve because you’ve been especially good lately.
Not put on layaway. ππ
Receive.
That’s it.
And for some of us, that may be one of the hardest things anybody could ask us to do.
Because we’ve learned how to work.
We’ve learned how to survive.
We’ve learned how to give.
We’ve learned how to perform.
We’ve learned how to make ourselves useful.
We’ve learned how to protect ourselves from strings.
We’ve learned how to avoid owing anybody.
We’ve learned how to say:
βI’m good.β
Even when good packed its bags three exits ago.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
But receiving?
Receiving requires open hands.
And some of us have lived with clenched fists for a very long time.
β€οΈβπ₯ WHY ARE OUR HANDS CLOSED?
Sometimes because we’re afraid.
Sometimes because we’re ashamed.
Sometimes because we’ve been hurt.
Sometimes because gifts have been weaponized against us.
Sometimes because we’ve confused needing help with weakness.
Sometimes because we’ve built our identity around being the giver.
Sometimes because we genuinely don’t know who we are when somebody else is taking care of us.
And sometimes…
we simply don’t believe we’re worthy of what is being offered.
π
So love comes.
And instead of receiving it, we interrogate it.
Why are you doing this?
Love comes.
We minimize it.
You really didn’t have to.
Love comes.
We apologize.
I’m sorry you had to do all this for me.
Love comes.
We promise repayment.
I’ll make it up to you.
Love comes.
And before it has even finished arriving, we’ve turned it into a debt.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s what some of us need to stop doing.
Not because gratitude doesn’t matter.
Gratitude matters enormously.
But gratitude says:
βThank you for what you’ve given.β
Guilt says:
βI need to get rid of this uncomfortable feeling of having received more than I gave.β
Those are different.
β€οΈβπ₯ OPEN HANDS CANNOT CONTROL EVERYTHING
This is where receiving becomes frightening.
A clenched fist feels powerful.
I control what stays.
I control what leaves.
I control what gets close.
But an open hand?
An open hand is vulnerable.
An open hand can give.
But an open hand can also receive.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s why love requires both.
If my hands are permanently clenched, eventually I cannot receive OR give freely.
Everything becomes control.
Everything becomes accounting.
Everything becomes:
Who owes whom?
But love wasn’t designed to live inside a ledger.
β€οΈβπ₯
π MAYBE YOU REALLY DID NEED THEM
Here’s another sentence some of us struggle to say:
βI needed you.β
Not:
It would’ve been nice if you came.
Not:
I could’ve managed.
Not:
I would’ve figured something out.
Maybe you would have.
That’s not the point.
Maybe the truth is simply:
I needed you.
And you came.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Why does admitting that feel so vulnerable?
Because need acknowledges that another person’s presence mattered.
And once somebody matters, we can no longer pretend we’re completely self-contained.
But beloveds…
we were never meant to be self-contained.
Human beings need human beings.
Babies arrive needing somebody.
Children need somebody.
Adults need somebody.
Older people need somebody.
Grieving people need somebody.
Celebrating people need somebody.
Sick people need somebody.
Healthy people need somebody.
Strong people need somebody.
Weak people need somebody.
Even the person who insists:
βI DON’T NEED NOBODY!β
usually needs somebody to hear the announcement.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
We need one another.
Not every person.
Not every relationship.
Not without boundaries.
Not without wisdom.
But we need community.
β€οΈβπ₯ YOU CAN NEED HELP WITHOUT LOSING YOURSELF
Receiving doesn’t mean surrendering your identity.
Receiving doesn’t mean becoming helpless.
Receiving doesn’t mean abandoning independence.
Receiving doesn’t mean everybody gets unlimited access to your life.
Receiving doesn’t mean you owe somebody control over you.
Receiving simply says:
βThere is something I cannotβor should not have toβcarry alone right now.β
And then:
βThank you for helping me carry it.β
That’s it.
β€οΈβπ₯
No shame ceremony required.
No emotional repayment schedule.
No thirty-page apology.
No:
βDear everybody, I regret to inform you that I have temporarily become a human being.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
You were human yesterday too.
You just needed less visible help.
β€οΈβπ₯ AND THEN THERE IS GRACE
Now we reach the heart of it.
Because everything we’ve been talking about with human love points me toward something much bigger.
Grace.
Grace is difficult for people who need to earn everything.
Because grace refuses our favorite arrangement.
We want:
Work β earn β deserve β receive.
Grace says:
Receive β be changed β respond.
πππΎβ€οΈβπ₯
Scripture says:
βFor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:β
βNot of works, lest any man should boast.β
β Ephesians 2:8β9, KJV
There it is.
Gift.
Not paycheck.
Not trophy.
Not reimbursement.
Gift.
And what do you do with a gift?
You receive it.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
But some of us keep trying to hand God a rΓ©sumΓ©.
Look what I’ve done.
Look how hard I’ve tried.
Look how useful I’ve been.
Look how many people I’ve helped.
Look how strong I’ve stayed.
And grace keeps saying:
Put the rΓ©sumΓ© down.
π
Because if grace could be earned…
it wouldn’t be grace.
β€οΈβπ₯ GOD IS NOT RUNNING AN EMOTIONAL COLLECTION AGENCY
Somebody needs this.
We sometimes receive God’s goodness and immediately think:
βNow I owe Him.β
But Christianity isn’t Jesus doing us a favor and then spending eternity saying:
βAfter everything I did for you…β
π
No.
Grace changes us precisely because it isn’t manipulation.
We don’t obey because we’re trying to pay Jesus back.
How could we?
What payment would equal the Cross?
What performance settles that account?
There isn’t one.
β€οΈβπ₯
We respond because love has changed what we desire.
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
β 1 John 4:19, KJV
There is that order again.
He first loved us.
Then…
we love.
Grace comes first.
Response follows.
β€οΈβπ₯ STOP TRYING TO PAY BACK LOVE. PASS IT ON.
Maybe that’s the shift.
When somebody loves us well, we don’t have to obsess over getting the balance back to zero.
We can allow love to keep moving.
Someone encourages me.
I receive it.
Later, I encourage somebody else.
Someone feeds me when I cannot manage.
I receive it.
Someday I find another way to nourish somebody else.
Someone sits beside me while I cry.
I receive it.
Later, somebody cries beside me…
and I don’t run from their tears.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Someone carries me.
I receive it.
Then one day, perhaps in a completely different way…
I carry somebody.
That’s not repayment.
That’s multiplication.
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Love wasn’t returned to sender.
Love kept traveling.
Imagine communities like that.
Nobody keeping perfect score.
Everybody giving according to ability.
Everybody receiving according to need.
Boundaries honored.
Gratitude expressed.
Manipulation rejected.
Shame refused.
People allowed to be human.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
One person saying:
βI have extra strength today. Lean on me.β
Another saying:
βThank you. I need it.β
And nobody losing dignity.
β€οΈβπ₯ MAYBE THE REAL CHALLENGE ISN’T RECEIVING HELP
Maybe it’s receiving love without editing ourselves first.
Not:
Love me after I get stronger.
Not:
Love me when I’m less complicated.
Not:
Love me once I can give more back.
Not:
Love me when I stop needing so much.
Not:
Love me when I become the old me again.
Just:
Love me here.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
HERE.
In this body.
In this season.
In this grief.
In this uncertainty.
In this rebuilding.
In this mess.
In this beginning again.
Here.
And perhaps somebody who genuinely loves you is saying:
βThat’s exactly where I’ve been trying to love you.β
WHEW.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
β€οΈβπ₯ THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE
Today, open your hands.
Literally, if you can.
Look at them.
And ask yourself:
βWhat love am I resisting because I don’t know how to repay it?β
Then ask:
βWhat would happen if I simply said thank you?β
No promise.
No apology.
No immediate return favor.
Just:
Thank you.
Let your heart sit there.
β€οΈ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE
Receive one thing today.
A compliment.
Help.
Encouragement.
Prayer.
Time.
Patience.
A hug.
A listening ear.
A kindness.
And instead of saying:
βYou shouldn’t have…β
try:
βThank you. That means a lot to me.β
Then let the moment finish.
Don’t chase love out of the room because receiving it makes you uncomfortable.
β€οΈβπ₯
π DAILY VICTORY
Today I will remember:
I can receive without becoming entitled.
I can be grateful without becoming indebted.
I can need help without becoming helpless.
I can accept love without surrendering healthy boundaries.
I can be carried without losing my dignity.
And:
I do not have to earn grace.
ππΎ MORNING PRAYER
Father,
Our hands are tired.
Some of us have been gripping everything so tightly.
Control.
Independence.
Fear.
Shame.
Old disappointments.
Old promises.
Old wounds.
The need to prove ourselves.
The need to repay everything.
The fear that receiving will make us weak.
Father…
teach us to open our hands.
ππΎ
Give us discernment about who we trust.
Give us boundaries where boundaries are needed.
Give us courage where fear has isolated us.
Give us humility where pride won’t let us ask.
Give us freedom where shame keeps calling us burdens.
And give us grace to receive love without immediately trying to earn it.
Thank You for the people who come.
Thank You for the people who stay.
Thank You for those who carry what we cannot carry today.
Help us appreciate them without turning ourselves into debts they must collect.
And Father…
thank You for Jesus.
Thank You for grace.
Thank You that salvation isn’t a paycheck we earn.
Thank You that love moved first.
Teach us to receive what You give…
and then allow that love to transform how we love the world.
Amen.
β€οΈβπ₯ππΎ
β€οΈβπ₯ BEFORE WE LEAVE THIS WEEK…
Beloveds,
We started with guilt.
I’m sorry I need you.
Then shame.
Something must be wrong with me because I need you.
Then fear.
What will I owe you?
Then vulnerability.
If I need you, you can hurt me.
Then performance.
If I’m not useful, will you still love me?
And now grace answers all of them:
Open your hands.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You do not have to apologize for every need.
You are not your difficult season.
Healthy love isn’t a loan.
Trust can grow wisely.
Your usefulness is not your entire worth.
And genuine grace cannot be purchased.
So maybe our prayer after this whole journey can become very simple:
Father, teach me to receive love without fear, give love without control, and recognize the difference between the two.
And when somebody comes running because we need them…
maybe we stop saying:
βI’m so sorry you had to.β
Maybe we look at them.
Really look.
And say:
βThank you for coming for me.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
No apology attached.
Maybe that’s enough.
Maybe…
that’s receiving.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.

One step. One step. One step. You are loved. You are NOT alone. Keep on beingβ¦YOU! β€οΈβπ₯π
I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND, SO ARE YOU! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯

I’M NOT DISABLED. I’M ABLE, BELOVEDS. AND SO ARE YOU! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds,
I have been thinking about the words we use to describe ourselves.
And today, I need to tell you what I see when I look at me.
I’M ABLE.
That does not mean pretending there are things I cannot currently do.
There are.
It does not mean denying that life changed.
It did.
It does not mean I don’t need assistance sometimes, accommodations sometimes, different tools sometimes, more time sometimes, or another person beside me sometimes.
I do.
But somewhere along the way, we started confusing needing a different way with having no way at all.
π Read that again.
Different is not less.
Assistance is not absence of ability.
Adaptation is not defeat.
And needing help does not erase what I CAN do.
I use a wheelchair. But, mostly, my trusty quad cane. I do. NOT feel bad about needing them
Still, I’m able. π©βπ¦½
I have had to relearn things I once did without thinking.
And, I’m able.
Sometimes my body requires creativity where it once required instinct.
Still able.
Sometimes somebody has to help me.
STILL. ABLE.
Because ability doesn’t disappear simply because it changes clothes.
Maybe I cannot do something the way I did before.
Okay.
Then the question becomes:
How CAN I do it now? π
That question has changed something in me.
Instead of standing at the graveyard of everything that changed, I am learning to walkβroll, crawl, adapt, laugh, pray, improvise, whatever it takesβtoward everything that remains possible.
And there is SO MUCH POSSIBLE. π³π
Beloveds, maybe somebody has spent too much time telling you what you cannot do.
Maybe life changed your body.
Maybe age changed your pace.
Maybe illness changed your routine.
Maybe grief changed your capacity.
Maybe circumstances changed the route you thought you would travel.
Maybe you need accommodations.
Maybe you need somebody’s hand.
Maybe your victory looks completely different from somebody else’s.
SO WHAT?!!
We are done measuring human worth by independence.
We are done treating help like humiliation.
We are done believing there is only one respectable way to move through this world.
And we are definitely done allowing the things that became difficult to introduce themselves as the definition of who we are.
No.
π Look again.
I am not a list of things that became harder.
I am a whole human being discovering new ways to live.
I am learning.
I am adapting.
I am creating.
I am loving.
I am writing.
I am laughing.
I am reaching.
I am recovering.
I am becoming.
I am planting. π³
I am eating the grapes. ππ€£
I am finding keys to doors I once thought were permanently locked. π
And sometimes I’m rolling through those doors instead of walking through them.
BABY, THE DOOR IS STILL OPEN. π©βπ¦½πβ€οΈβπ₯
And yours may be too.
So don’t let anybodyβincluding the frightened voice inside your own headβreduce your entire existence to what you cannot do today.
Ask another question:
WHAT CAN I DO?
Then ask:
WHAT CAN I LEARN?
Then:
WHAT CAN I ADAPT?
And finally:
WHO MIGHT I BECOME IF I STOPPED MEASURING MY FUTURE BY YESTERDAY’S METHODS?
Whew. β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds, ability comes in more forms than we were taught to recognize.
Sometimes strength stands.
Sometimes strength sits.
Sometimes strength runs.
Sometimes strength rolls.
Sometimes strength speaks loudly.
Sometimes strength struggles to get the sentence outβand finishes it anyway.
Sometimes strength does everything alone.
And sometimes the bravest, strongest words in the room are:
βI need some help.β
All of it counts.
So today I’m changing the emphasis.
Don’t look at me and only see what changed.
π LOOK AT WHAT REMAINED.
Better yetβ
LOOK AT WHAT IS GROWING. π³π³π³
I’m able, beloveds.
AND SO ARE YOU. β€οΈβπ₯
Now let’s find out what our able looks like.
One step.
One adaptation.
One grape.
One key.
One gloriously unconventional way forward at a time. πππ³π©βπ¦½π

IAM HERE!

I. AM. HERE! π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯π
Beloveds,
Look at this picture.
Noβreally.
LOOK.
I am standing.
But this post isn’t about standing.
Because some of us have spent far too long measuring life by what our bodies can do, what we’ve lost, what has changed, what takes longer now, or what somebody else thinks recovery is supposed to look like.
This picture says something much simpler.
I. AM. HERE.
Not the woman I was before everything changed.
Not some imaginary future version of me who has finally recovered enough to deserve celebration.
ME.
Here.
Now.
Alive.
Learning.
Growing.
Laughing.
Crying sometimes.
Getting frustrated sometimes.
Needing help sometimes.
Doing things differently sometimes.
And still completely, undeniably ME.
π©βπ¦½β€οΈβπ₯
I have learned something about survival:
Sometimes we become so focused on getting back to where we were that we miss the miracle of discovering who we are becoming.
I don’t want to spend my life waiting to celebrate myself until everything works the way it once did.
I don’t want to postpone joy until recovery checks every box.
And I refuse to treat my life today like a waiting room for a supposedly better life tomorrow.
THIS IS MY LIFE.
And I am living it.
My wheelchair doesn’t erase me.
Needing assistance doesn’t erase me.
Doing something differently doesn’t make the accomplishment smaller.
A difficult day doesn’t cancel my progress.
And what my body cannot do today does not get to write the definition of who I am.
Different is not less.
Please hear that, beloveds.
Because maybe your life changed too.
Maybe your body changed.
Your family changed.
Your career changed.
Your plans changed.
Your finances changed.
Your relationships changed.
Your confidence changed.
Maybe something happened that divided your life into before and after.
And maybe you’ve been staring backward, wondering when you’re finally going to feel like yourself again.
What if becoming yourself again doesn’t mean becoming exactly who you were?
What if there is still life here?
Love here.
Purpose here.
Laughter here.
Beauty here.
Growth here.
God here.
YOU here.
Jesus/The Father has been teaching me that I do not have to despise today’s Cassandra while waiting for tomorrow’s Cassandra.
I can love her now.
Celebrate her now.
Take her picture now.
Let her laugh now.
Let her dream now.
Let her live now.
Because she did not disappear when her circumstances changed.
And neither did you.
βI shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.β β Psalm 118:17 KJV
That scripture hits differently these days…
I SHALL LIVE.
Not merely exist.
Not merely endure.
Not merely spend every day cataloging what changed.
LIVE.
π³ Grow.
π Taste what is still good.
π Dance however dancing looks today.
π Open the doors that are in front of you instead of spending your whole life staring at the ones that closed.
β€οΈβπ₯ Love fiercely.
π Remember your worth.
And when fear, grief, shame, comparison, disability, disappointment, or somebody else’s expectations try to reduce your entire existence to what you cannot doβ
look them square in the face and say:
I. AM. HERE.
I am not an inconvenience.
I am not yesterday’s version of myself gone wrong.
I am not a list of limitations.
I am not waiting for permission to call this life beautiful.
I survived enough to get HERE.
And HERE deserves my presence.
HERE deserves my gratitude.
HERE deserves my laughter.
HERE deserves my dreams.
HERE deserves my love.
And HERE deserves yours too.
So today’s challenge is ridiculously simple:
Show up for the life you actually have.
Not someday.
Not when everything gets fixed.
Not when you finally feel ready.
Today.
Take the picture.
Eat the grape. π
Laugh loudly.
Use the help.
Try again.
Rest when you need to.
Celebrate the inch instead of mourning the mile.
And belovedβ
BE HERE.
Because you are still becoming.
And your story is still moving.

LOVE IS NOT A LOAN β€οΈβπ₯

AUGUST 20, 2026
LOVE IS NOT A LOAN β€οΈβπ₯
When Ki1ndness Makes Us Look for the Strings Attached
Beloveds,
Can we talk about something uncomfortable this morning?
Sometimes somebody does something genuinely kind for us…
and instead of relaxing into the kindness, our minds immediately start looking for the price tag.
π
What do they want?
What am I going to owe them?
When are they going to bring this back up?
Are they going to use this against me later?
How quickly can I repay them so we’re even again?
And sometimes the person hasn’t asked us for a single thing.
They simply loved us.
But somewhere inside, we’re already reaching for the emotional calculator.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Because some of us have learnedβthrough experience, observation, disappointment, or simply years of trying to protect ourselvesβthat receiving can feel dangerous.
Maybe somebody once gave to you and reminded you of it every chance they got.
Maybe kindness was used as leverage.
Maybe help came with expectations nobody mentioned until later.
Maybe somebody’s generosity eventually became:
βAfter everything I’ve done for you…β
Whew.
That sentence has wounded a lot of people.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Because suddenly what we thought was a gift gets rewritten as a debt.
Something freely offered becomes evidence in a future argument.
And after experiencing enough of that, we learn:
Don’t owe anybody anything.
So we become excellent at giving.
We pay our own way.
We solve our own problems.
We don’t ask.
We don’t need.
We don’t receive.
Or, if we absolutely must receive, we immediately begin planning how to pay it back.
Not always because we’re ungrateful.
Sometimes because we’re scared.
β€οΈβπ₯
We don’t want anybody holding anything over our heads.
So our independence becomes armor.
βIf I never need you, you can never say I owe you.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
There it is.
But beloveds…
what protects us from manipulation can also prevent us from experiencing genuine generosity.
Because not everybody who gives is keeping score.
Not everybody helping you is building leverage.
Not every kindness is a contract.
Not every gift has an invisible repayment schedule.
And healthy love doesn’t require us to spend the rest of our lives proving we deserved what somebody freely chose to give.
Love is not a loan.
β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Now let’s be clear.
Healthy relationships involve reciprocity.
We should care about the people who care about us.
We should notice their needs.
We should appreciate sacrifice.
We should contribute where and when we can.
We should not become entitled to somebody else’s time, energy, money, attention, labor, or care.
But reciprocity and repayment are different.
Reciprocity says:
βBecause I love you too, your wellbeing matters to me.β
Repayment says:
βYou did three things for me, therefore I must do three things for you before I can feel safe again.β
One is relationship.
The other is bookkeeping.
π
And some of us have been running emotional accounting departments for YEARS.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
She drove me twice, so I need to do something.
He paid last time, so now I owe.
They stayed with me when I was struggling, so I need to make myself useful.
They’ve helped me too much. I need to stop needing anything.
Beloved…
CLOSE THE SPREADSHEET.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Love is getting audited every quarter and would like to file a complaint.
Because healthy love isn’t:
You gave me 47 minutes Tuesday, therefore I owe you 47 minutes Thursday plus interest.
Love moves.
Sometimes unevenly.
Sometimes wildly unevenly.
Sometimes one person has almost nothing to give for a season.
And the other carries more.
Then life turns.
And perhaps years later, the person who once carried you finds themselves needing somewhere to rest.
And because you understand love differently now, you don’t pull out the old ledger.
You pull out a chair.
βSit down. I’ve got you.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
That’s relationship.
That’s community.
That’s how human beings survive difficult seasons.
β€οΈβπ₯ BUT WHAT ABOUT STRINGS?
This matters.
Because sometimes strings are attached.
We shouldn’t pretend manipulation doesn’t exist.
Sometimes people really do use giving as control.
Sometimes somebody offers help and later weaponizes it.
Sometimes generosity is used to purchase access, obedience, silence, loyalty, affection, or control.
That isn’t healthy generosity.
And learning to receive love doesn’t mean abandoning discernment.
You are allowed to have boundaries.
You are allowed to ask questions.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to notice patterns.
You are allowed to decide that a particular person’s βhelpβ consistently costs more emotionally than you’re willing to pay.
β€οΈβπ₯
Receiving does NOT mean becoming defenseless.
But discernment asks:
βIs this safe and healthy?β
Fear asks:
βHow do I make sure I never need anybody again?β
Those are different questions.
One protects us.
The other can imprison us.
π
Because if our solution to having once received unhealthy love is:
βI will never receive anything from anybody,β
then the people who manipulated us in the past are still influencing the relationships we’re trying to build today.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Read that one again.
Sometimes yesterday’s strings teach us to distrust today’s open hands.
And healing may require learning to tell the difference.
β€οΈβπ₯ A GIFT IS ALLOWED TO BE A GIFT
This is one of the hardest lessons for people who are accustomed to earning everything:
Someone can simply choose to bless you.
Someone can buy lunch because they wanted to.
Someone can drive you because they wanted to.
Someone can sit with you because they wanted to.
Someone can pray for you because they wanted to.
Someone can rearrange their afternoon because they decided:
βThis person matters to me.β
And you don’t have to argue with their decision.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
You can say:
Thank you.
That’s it.
No:
I’m so sorry.
No:
I’ll make it up to you.
No:
You didn’t have to.
Althoughβlet’s be honestβthat last one flies out of some of our mouths before our brains even clock in for work. ππ
YOU DIDN’T HAVE TO!
Exactly.
Perhaps that’s what makes it love.
They didn’t have to.
They chose to.
β€οΈβπ₯
What if instead of saying:
βYou didn’t have to do that!β
we occasionally tried:
βYou didn’t have to do that. And I’m deeply grateful that you chose to.β
Feel the difference?
One almost pushes the gift backward.
The other receives it.
ππΎ AND THEN THERE IS GRACE.
This is where my faith challenges me deeply.
Because grace doesn’t operate like wages.
Scripture says:
βNow to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.β
β Romans 4:4, KJV
Debt says:
You earned this.
Grace says:
Receive.
And some of us are far more comfortable with debt than grace because debt lets us believe we’re still in control.
If I earned it, nobody gave me anything.
If I paid for it, I owe nobody.
If I deserved it, I never had to experience the vulnerability of receiving.
But grace says:
Open your hands.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
And perhaps learning to receive healthy human love can teach our hearts something about receiving divine grace too.
Not earning.
Not bargaining.
Not keeping score.
Receiving.
Then allowing gratitude to transform how we love others.
Because grace doesn’t make us selfish.
Grace teaches us generosity.
When we finally understand:
βI received something I couldn’t possibly repay,β
we stop demanding repayment from everybody else.
β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
Maybe that’s why this conversation matters so much.
We’re not merely learning how to accept help.
We’re learning a different economy of love.
Not:
debt β payment β balance zero.
But:
love β gratitude β love flowing outward again.
Not necessarily back to the same person.
Not necessarily in the same amount.
Not necessarily tomorrow.
Just love continuing its journey.
Someone carries me.
Eventually I become strong enough to carry somebody else.
They carry somebody.
That person carries another.
And suddenly what began as one act of kindness becomes a whole community where people are allowed to need one another.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
THAT’S the kind of world I want.
β€οΈβπ₯ THE CASSANDRA CHALLENGE
Today, notice what happens inside you when somebody offers something.
Do you immediately think:
βWhat will I owe?β
Don’t judge yourself.
Just notice.
Then ask:
βHas this person actually attached a conditionβor is an old fear attaching one for them?β
That’s discernment.
β€οΈ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE
Receive one small kindness today without immediately returning it.
A compliment.
A held door.
A phone call.
A meal.
A favor.
A prayer.
Help.
Whatever comes.
Say:
βThank you. I appreciate that.β
And stop.
No repayment plan.
No apology.
No emotional invoice.
Just receive.
π DAILY VICTORY
Today I will remember:
Gratitude is not indebtedness.
I can appreciate someone’s sacrifice without turning myself into their debtor.
ππΎ MORNING PRAYER
Father,
Some of us have learned to fear receiving because receiving has not always felt safe.
Some of us remember strings.
Some remember manipulation.
Some remember hearing:
βAfter everything I’ve done for you…β
And those memories taught us to keep our hands closed.
Give us wisdom.
Not naΓ―vetΓ©.
Not suspicion of everybody.
Wisdom.
Teach us to recognize healthy love.
Teach us boundaries where love is unhealthy.
Teach us gratitude where love is genuine.
And teach us how to receive without immediately trying to earn our way out of being loved.
When You send good people into our lives, help us recognize them.
When someone freely chooses to help us, help us honor their choice.
And when fear whispers:
βYou owe them now,β
help us ask whether that voice is telling the truth.
Most of all, teach us grace.
Your love cannot be reduced to a transaction.
Help us receive it.
And then help us give from the abundance of having been loved.
Amen.
β€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds…
Perhaps somebody is loving you right now.
And you’ve been so busy searching their hands for strings that you haven’t noticed:
their hands may simply be open.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Look carefully.
Use wisdom.
Keep your boundaries.
But when genuine love comes…
let it come.
You don’t have to turn every gift into a debt.
You don’t have to turn every kindness into obligation.
You don’t have to pay interest on affection.
Sometimes love really is saying:
βThis is for you.β
And your whole assignment is:
Receive it.
Tomorrow we’re going deeper.
Because underneath βI don’t want to owe anybodyβ sometimes lives an even more frightening confession:
βIf I let myself need you, you have the power to hurt me.β
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
We’ll talk about that.
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
Asking for A Friend,

BELOVEDS, LEARN TO RECEIVE THE LOVE β€οΈβπ₯π

AUGUST 17, 2026
BELOVEDS, LEARN TO RECEIVE THE LOVE β€οΈβπ₯π
Beloveds,
I HAD to make a follow up piece!β€οΈβπ₯
Some of us know how to love everybody except ourselves when we are the ones who need love.
We will show up.
Give.
Help.
Call.
Pray.
Encourage.
Drop what we’re doing.
Sit beside somebody.
Carry what they cannot carry.
And tell them:
βDon’t you dare apologize. I love you.β
πβ€οΈ
But let somebody do the same thing for US?
π±
Suddenly we’re standing there with a calculator.
How much did this cost you?
How much time did you lose?
What do I owe you?
Did I inconvenience you?
Are you secretly irritated?
When will you bring this up again?
What are the strings?
Beloveds…
some of us don’t receive love.
We audit it.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
We examine every act of kindness looking for an invoice.
And sometimes there IS a reason.
Some of us have experienced people who gave and later reminded us:
βAfter everything I’ve done for you…β
Some of us learned that help came with expectations.
Some learned that affection could be withdrawn.
Some learned that gifts created obligations.
Some learned that saying yes to someone’s help meant losing the right to say no later.
So now genuine love arrives…
and our hearts don’t know what to do with it.
π
We start feeling guilty simply because somebody gave us something.
But beloveds, listen carefully:
Someone giving to you does not automatically mean you did something wrong.
Guilt is appropriate when we have harmed someone, manipulated someone, ignored their boundaries, lied, exploited kindness, or behaved wrongly.
But needing someone?
Receiving appropriate help?
Allowing somebody who loves you to choose to show up?
That is not automatically wrongdoing.
Sometimes what we’re calling guilt is actually vulnerability.
Sometimes it’s grief.
Sometimes it’s embarrassment.
Sometimes it’s fear of rejection.
Sometimes it’s fear that somebody will keep score.
And sometimes…
we simply haven’t learned how to be on the receiving side of love.
β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯β€οΈβπ₯
So here’s something we can practice together:
PAUSE. CHECK. RECEIVE. THANK. RELEASE.
PAUSE.
Before automatically saying, βNo, no, no, I’m fine,β stop.
CHECK.
Is this safe?
Is this freely offered?
Does this person have the freedom to say no?
Are there actual conditions attachedβor am I expecting strings because I’ve encountered strings before?
RECEIVE.
If it is safe and freely given, let somebody love you.
Yes.
YOU.
π±β€οΈ
THANK.
Not:
βI’m so sorry you had to do this.β
Not:
βI’ll make this up to you.β
Not:
βI owe you big time.β
Try:
βThank you. This means a lot to me.β
And then comes the part some of us absolutely HATE. ππ
RELEASE.
Put down the imaginary calculator.
You do not have to immediately make everything even.
Healthy relationships are not spreadsheets.
Love circulates.
Today someone carries you.
Another day you may carry them.
Or somebody else.
What you eventually give may look nothing like what you received.
That’s okay.
Love isn’t reimbursement.
β€οΈβπ₯
And please remember this:
GRATITUDE IS NOT INDEBTEDNESS.
You can appreciate someone’s generosity without surrendering your boundaries.
Someone helping you does not automatically purchase your future yes.
Your time.
Your agreement.
Your silence.
Your decisions.
Your emotional access.
Your forgiveness.
Your availability.
βThank youβ is not a contract.
And healthy love can survive hearing:
βNo.β
β€οΈβπ₯
Now for those of us who follow Jesus, this gets even deeper.
Matthew 10:8 says:
βFreely ye have received, freely give.β
Look at the order.
RECEIVE.
Then give.
And 1 John 4:19 says:
βWe love him, because he first loved us.β
Again:
FIRST LOVED.
Before we performed.
Before we proved ourselves.
Before we gave something back.
Before we made ourselves useful.
We received.
πβ€οΈβπ₯
Maybe some of us have mastered giving because giving feels powerful.
Receiving?
Receiving requires vulnerability.
Receiving requires opening our hands.
Receiving requires believing someone’s yes without inventing a secret no for them.
Receiving requires saying:
βMaybe I don’t have to earn every ounce of tenderness that reaches me.β
πβ€οΈβπ₯
So here’s today’s Love Challenge:
When somebody safely and genuinely offers you love, kindness, encouragement, time, help, or care…
don’t immediately reach for your emotional wallet.
Try saying:
βThank you. I receive that.β
Then STOP.
π±π
No apology.
No repayment plan.
No fourteen-page Terms & Conditions.
No emotional promissory note.
Just:
Thank you.
And when guilt whispers:
βThey gave. You owe.β
Answer:
βThey gave. I am grateful.β
When guilt says:
βYou’re a burden.β
Answer:
βNeeding love does not make me shameful.β
When fear says:
βThere must be strings.β
Answer:
βI will look for evidence instead of inventing a debt.β
And when your heart says:
βI don’t know how to receive love yet…β
Tell it gently:
βThen we will learn.β
Because maybe healing isn’t only learning how to stand again after life knocks us down.
Maybe healing is learning how to let somebody sit beside us before we stand.
ππβ€οΈβπ₯
Beloveds, some of us have spent our entire lives learning how to pour.
Perhaps it’s time we learned that the cup is allowed to be filled too.
Receive the love.
No invoice.
No shame.
No apology for needing it.
And where genuine love is concerned…
no strings required.
Unapologetically His/Unapologetically yours,
Asking for A Friend,
Cassandra

AUGUST 16, 2026 β MY VOICE IS STILL MINE π€π§ β€οΈβπ₯
Updated…oppsπ©ππππβοΈ
Beloveds,
Life can your voice without taking it away.
Read that again.
Because some of us have spent entirely too much time believing that if we cannot speak the way we once spoke, move the way we once moved, work the way we once worked, love the way we once loved, or live the life we once imaginedβ
then somehow we have become less ourselves.
Nah. π
I have something to say about that.
My voice is still mine.
It may hesitate.
It may repeat.
It may take the scenic route to a word that used to come running. π
Sometimes my mouth and my brain apparently hold separate staff meetings and forget to invite each other. π§ π€π
But…
MY. VOICE. IS. STILL. MINE.
And beloveds, this isn’t only about stroke recovery.
Where did you lose your voice?
Was it in a relationship where keeping the peace meant keeping quiet?
Was it after somebody convinced you that your feelings were βtoo muchβ?
Did grief silence you?
Did rejection?
Trauma?
Failure?
Shame?
Age?
Illness?
Fear?
Did you spend years becoming whatever everybody else needed until one morning you realized:
Wait…where did I go? π
Maybe you weren’t physically silenced at all.
Maybe you simply stopped believing anybody wanted to hear you.
I understand that too.
But listen:
Your voice isn’t valuable because it is polished.
Your story isn’t worthy because it is pretty.
And you don’t need perfect words before you are allowed to speak.
Sometimes the bravest sentence you’ll ever say is:
βThis is what happened to me.β
Then:
βThis is how it affected me.β
Then eventually:
βAnd this is who I am becoming.β β€οΈβπ₯
I’m learning my voice again.
Literally.
Some days words cooperate.
Some days they apparently have PTO. π©π
So I practice.
I read.
I speak.
I stumble.
I repeat.
I laugh.
Sometimes I cry.
Then I try again.
Because every word I fight for reminds me:
I AM STILL HERE.
And perhaps you’re relearning your voice too.
Maybe yours isn’t speech.
Maybe you’re learning to say no.
Maybe you’re finally saying I need help.
Maybe you’re learning to say I was wrong.
Maybe you’re learning to say that hurt me.
Maybe you’re finally brave enough to say I love you.
Or perhaps the sentence you’re practicing is:
βI deserve to participate in my own life.β
Say it.
Even if your voice shakes.
Even if somebody doesn’t understand.
Even if you need more time.
Even if you have to type it.
Write it.
Point to it.
Sing it.
Whisper it.
Communicate it however you can.
Your voice is bigger than sound. π€β€οΈβπ₯
And for those who share my faith, Scripture says:
βI shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.β β Psalm 118:17 KJV
Ohhhh, I like that one. ππ₯
LIVE.
And DECLARE.
Apparently we’re not finished talking yet, beloveds. ππ€
So I’m going to keep finding my voice.
And while I do…
I’m reaching back for yours.
β€οΈ DAILY LOVE CHALLENGE
Listenβreally listenβto somebody today.
Don’t prepare your answer while they’re speaking.
Don’t correct their story.
Give another human being the gift of being heard.
β€οΈβπ₯ CASSANDRA CHALLENGE β EXTRA CREDIT
Say one thing you’ve been afraid to say.
It doesn’t have to be dramatic.
Maybe:
I need you.
I’m proud of myself.
I’m sorry.
I’m scared.
I disagree.
I forgive you.
I need some space.
I want to begin again.
Find one sentence that belongs to you.
Then use it.
π TODAY’S VICTORY
You don’t have to sound like yesterday’s version of yourself to still be yourself.
Changed does not mean erased.
Quiet does not mean powerless.
Struggling does not mean finished.
And needing time to find the words does not mean you have nothing worth saying.
π¬ And coming up…
We’re going deeper into finding our voicesβthrough fear, grief, anger, accountability, love, recovery, changed dreams, and the messy business of becoming somebody we haven’t met yet.
Some of this may sting.
Some will make us laugh.
Some may make us cry.
Good.
We’re going there together. β€οΈβπ₯
From my heart to and FOR your heart, beloveds. β€οΈβπ₯
Unapologetically His.
Unapologetically yours.
