This has been an exhausting week. We had to go to a completely new system no one had ever seen, let alone knew how to use…smh….no coment.
I considered using some PTO to sleep in, for a few hours, tomorrow. Thought of a heaping, helping of hollering chili, a snuggle with the sandman, and late morning wake up…hmm….
Thought of all the this and the that I could be doing…
Thought of….the heck with that!
*Cassandra put in for some PTO*.
Some days, beloveds, we need to take the time, for US. To do whatever, to do absolutely nothing. Life will understand. If not, tell it to kick some rocks for a coupla hours and get some rest time. Yes, in the middle of the week. Whenever, where ever, however you need to refresh, refresh. Things will be there, when you wake up.
Ah! Late sleep in! In the middle of the week! Okay, technically today is midweek but who is counting anywho?…*shrug*.
Be good to you, beloveds. Love someone. Starting with YOU. You are much too important to leave behind. And, for those struggling at this time of year, be extra good to you, okay? By the by, Brita, I am carrying your heart around, in my pocket, and yakking with you as you grieve for your mum. I may also slip the recipe to my chili to you. Don’t be causing too much of a ruckus, in their please and thanks. You know how the neighbors get!
I love quotes. Love them!! The above one has me all fired up!!
I AM THE STORM!!
Hear me roar, world!…ooppss…sorry neighbors…*Cassandra whispers hear me roar!!*
The quote reminds me that I am NOT just a passive vessel being tossed to and fro. I have choices. I make choices. I try. I work. I do. The best I can. And, if things don’t turn out, the way I had hoped, well…*shrug*…I tried. Good enough for me.
Ah! The work day is done. I completed my daily schedule, chili hollering for my time, ready to shed my shoulder of today’s TRY in order to slip on this evening’s relaxation.
Ah!
Satisfaction. A job well done. The day did not start as graciously as I may have liked. Yet, the day profferred many treats and laughs along the way. I took one step closer, today. And, that, beloveds, is enough for me. For, now. Closer to what, you ask? Who knows? God does and He ain’t tellin’.
Be at peace, all. Life is short. LIVE, the best you can. Then, leave the outcomes to God and Life to deal with and take care of. You have done your part. Give yourself a hand. Give yourself a hug. Be proud of the you that has come forth from this day. I know I am.
I admit it. This was NOT the most ideal wake up thought, of a morning. If you had been woken with lights blaring in your eyes, after laying in blissful, quiet darkness, you may have done the same.
Truth be told, I had been grumpily awaiting aforementioned lights glare. I had my Google Mini set to turn lights on, promptly, at 8:00 am. What madness! What IDIOT wanted lights blaring TWO HOURS BEFORE I HAVE TO??!!!!
Oh, yea, it was me. My new weekly schedule, remember?
Oh, yea, THAT…*Cassandra pouts delicately and quietly so as not to wake neighbors, some of whom could give two hoots and kept her up ALL Saturday causing her to do Saturdays’ chores on Sunday causing her to….*….hmm….opppps…..sorry bout that….different post….don’t judge me, I am not fully awake, having been waken by lights blaring, to start my new weekly schedule….*sigh*….
So, here I sit, writing, writing of all things(don’t judge me it’s on the schedule so I can get my book project off the ground), drinking French Vanilla coffee, boiled eggs eaten(yeppers both on the schedule and done), pouting, fussing, yet keeping my promise, to me, in following my schedule and keeping myself on track.
I will admit, soon as the lights came on, the argument started. And, I mean IMMEDIATELY.
Me: I do NOT feel like getting up extra early, today.
Me: You promised.
Me: Who did I promise, though?
Me: You promised, you, beloved. Remember?
Me: Yea, but, well, it’s just ME, though. Who will know, anywho? Who will care? Who will it affect if I sleep in, just a bit more?
Me: It will hurt you, beloved.
Me: Now, this is true. But, what if we decide to start later? How about tomorrow?
Me: You don’t know how many tomorrows you have left. Also, how many times have you promised you would do this, that or the other, only to never do it, half do it, fuss your way through it, rush through it, on and on?
Me: Okay. Okay! Don’t judge me. It’s just as much your fault as it is mine.
Me: Get going, you wasting time. Time you don’t have.
Me: Okay. Okay!
*Covers flying every which way, Cassandra delicately storms through the apartment, yelling for Google Mini to turn lights BACK ON DAMMIT, stomped lightly to kitchen, slammed pot on stove, dumped stupid eggs in the damned dumb too early to be up pot, thought of smaking keurig around, dismissed said thought, gently handled keurig pleading for her to hurry up and get the coffee out already!!! Fresh hell!!, fussed at her laptop who was smart enough to keep quiet whilst she fired up the laptop, ripped open fresh Word documents and got into the day, TWO HOURS EARLY MIND YOU*…
I now have ten minutes to try and save you some morning foolishness. Keep your promise to you. Life is much too short. Those things you have been dreaming about, get on out of your comfy bed/shell/self and get to getting after it. How? How the world would I know? Am trying to figure mine out as I go. Ah! I am going, though!
Get going!
Turn them lights on!
Make the call.
Reach out the hand.
Give a hug.
Receive some offered love.
Offer some love.
Whatever you do, get to doing something. We need what YOU have. Only ONE you, beloved. Best get to living the one life you have, eh?
Yes, I am talking to YOU. This world needs YOU, beloveds. Time to get on up, get on out there, best you can. And, just BE..YOU! The world don’t need more counterfeiters. Just needs you to, well, just BE. Do YOU. Loudly. Proudly. All the way. Get on after it. Time is short. This world needs what you have to give. YOU need what you have to give.
Let’s get after it. No time for waiting for others to do what we can.
I work from home. Love it! Love it. Took me almost ten years to earn the privilege. This was before Covid turned the world upside down and forced a kajillion folks home…smh…
Anywho, in preparing to work from home, I had to get me a work desk and chair. A friend went with me, to Office Max where I purchased a super comfy chair. It was perfect. It was perfect!
Only, when actually working, it wasn’t perfect. The arms were too skinny. THE ARMS ARE TOO SKINNY. They made my back hurt. All scrunched up, on these spindly arms, shrugging at me that this was the best they could do. The height was perfect. The way I fit, was perfect. The arms! The arms!!!
Like a dumbsky, I sucked it up, and worked, for aeons, with a perfect chair that really was not perfect, at all. I had two options:
Option 1, I could suck it up, do the best I can, eat ibuprofen like candy, throw myself into bed and have a tantrum because my back hurt from the stupid, spindly thin arms!!
Option 2, I could reach out, to my boss, and ask for a desk chair I was able to bring home, with me. Previously, I chose not to inconvenience myself by going into the office and getting a decent one. I figured, it wouldn’t fit, in my car and would be a nightmare to get it in and out. I figured, it would be a pain trying to drag it up my stairs and get situated. Both of those things, turned out to be true. Coming attractions, on that, in just a moment…smh…*Cassandra feels a headache coming on at the memory of…*….nevermind….
You can guess, can’t you, that I chose Option 1, right? I did. Dummy, me. Long story short, I use said chair, for as long as my back could stand it. Finally, I cried uncle, called my boss, made arrangements to drive the 30 minute drive, to the office, pick up chair, calmly, discreetly, professionally placed said chair in my car, made my way home, deftly manuevered said chair out of my huge car, jogged it lithely and lightly up the stairs, deposited said chair lovingly and quietly beneath the loving arms of my desk and the rest is history.
NOT!!!!!!!!!
I will spare us all, the horror show, called me, that commenced trying to cram an ergonomical chair into the small arms of my backseat. I will NOT repeat the things I thought, then said, out loud, LOUDLY, as I tried to get my backseat to give up my seat, dammit, so I can do my job and keep paying for my stupid car. You already have seats! Give me my chair, dammit!!
I shall NOT disclose how myself, and said chair, ended up, in quite the heap, in the middle of the parking lot. I shall NOT disclose the indignity of my fight, with the stairs, to get said chair up my surprisingly angry stairs. Apparently, I did not manuever them, up the stairs, to the stair’s liking, and said stairs let me know what they thought of my chair AND me. How DARE!?!…*gasp*.
Fast forward to ergonomical and now STUPID work chair, now ensconced underneath my work desk and all now right with the world. The only problem, now is my place is too small to comfortably have both comfy and work chair under the desk. So, I have to go through the dance of maneuvering, one or the other, into the other room, out of the way, until needed, once again.
As you can imagine, from time to time, I have gotten lazy, and have NOT wanted to take the whole three minutes it takes to switch chairs. So, like a dumbsky, I would work in the wrong chair. Pouting, of course, ALL day. Muttering, fussing, complaining, harranging myself for not taking three whole minutes to switch chairs.
Tonight, I wanted to do some writing. Yet, I had my comfy chair out. Like an idiot, I think I can get away with writing, in the wrong chair. I had forgotten how aggravating, how painful writing is, on the tiny arms. I write. It hurts. I pout. I kavetch. I tell myself to stop being a dumbsky and take the three minutes to get and use the right chair.
Ah.
AH!! My back thanks me. My arms say “Hallelujah”….lol…
Now, I want to go all philosophical and wax poetic and give some parable of life how we, at times, do the convenient, instead of doing what’s needed, in order to help us live and grow…hehe…didja see how I went all philosophical on the discreet?
Life is short. Much too short to keep on doing things that are not in our best interests. Time to go on ahead and get out the correct chair. Time to do the thing that will help you get closer to your dream, eh? Make, the call. Write, the letter. Reach out. DO something that will keep you moving forward.
Change takes time. And, effort. A LOT of effort. So, inconvenience yourself. Inconvenience others. Inconvenience God and Life into moving and working on your behalf. They will. If YOU will. And, if you decide to be a dumbsky and use the wrong chair, don’t get to blaming God or Life or others for your pain. Get out your own way, get to doing the thing, already! Get going, beloveds. Time is short.
Today, finds me doing yesterday’s chores today. Sunday. My day of rest.
THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY DAY OF REST!!!…*pout*….*Cassandra stomps around, delicately mind you, so as to not upset the neighbors*….*Cassandra consoles herself with being a good neighbor, STILL, even though her neighbor is the very reason she is doing yesterday’s chores today!*
Yesterday, Saturday, instead of the Sandman gently teasing me awake, the blasted neighbor decided to invite a 100 piece movie orchestra next door to entertain us. ALL DAY! ALL DAY!!!!! So, I do my ‘take the high road routine’ and tell myself he/she must have had a tough week and give them some slack.
So, slack given, I do the high road thing, try to NOT pay attention to the 100 piece movie orchestra and mind my own….
Hours later, hours mind you, I tell myself I am just too ‘out of sorts’ to get my Saturday chores done. I spent a wonderful Friday evening concocting and making out a fantastic life schedule I am determined to live by. I figure, I religiously stick to my work schedule and brook no excuses or arguments. I can do the same with a life schedule.
With due diligence, I make my schedule, tuck myself into bed, awaiting to attack my Saturday with a vengeance. Only, the neighbor decided to do the attacking first. Exasperated, I pouted, I fumed, I stayed in bed. ALL day.
God and Life: Okay, so what happened to your Saturday chores?
Me: I can’t do them. The neighbor interrupted my good mood.
God: What does your mood have to do with the promise you made yourself?
Me: How the heck should I know? Am in too foul a mood to be rational.
Life: So, you have determined that outside distractions can and will keep you from keeping your promise to you?
Me: Hhm…am too annoyed to be taking high roads and getting act right. Talk to me tomorrow.
Sunday morning arrives. Too early, dammit! I decide it is much too early to start my Sunday and decide to sleep in. See, Sunday is my day off, according to my life schedule! I rush to show Life that I have ALL DAY Sunday off. Don’t bug me.
Life: So, you did not adhere to Saturday. Why is it okay to adhere to Sunday and do nothing?
God: Yes, do tell.
Yikes!: This should be good.
Egads!: Egads! You sure have painted yourself into a corner with this one, Cassandra. Good luck to you.
Me:….hmm….*Cassandra scrounges around, in her mind, for a good enough reason to take today off when she did not do yesterday’s chores*….fresh hell!!…..*Cassandra snatches up the remote, turns off the football games(gasp), stomps delicately to mind the now quiet neighbors, and commences to take out the trash, vaccuum, dust and do all the damned Saturday’s chores she knows damn good and well she should have done YESTERDAY so she could be enjoying her Sunday games!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!….*pout*….
So, now I find myself, fixing to have a nice cup of coffee, post clean, so I can find the gumption to encourage someone to be sure and keep your promises, especially to YOU. It’s so easy, isn’t it, to put ourselves off? We will work ourselves, to the bone, for our jobs, for other’s needs. Yet, one inconvenience, hiccup, unexpected happenstance and we are willing, if not eager, to throw in the towel. We will get to it, tomorrow, we tell ourselves. Life is getting to short, though, to be leaning on a possible tomorrow.
I no longer allow myself the excuse, the seeming luxury, of ‘I will do it, tomorrow’. I know I may never HAVE a tomorrow. In addition, I have no earthly clue what that day may hold. I have been doing things, today, in the moment, as much as I can.
It feels good, I must admit, looking down at my freshly vacuumed rug. I scrunch my toes in the delicious fluffiness of the rug that now holds my toes, in gratitude. My keurig becomes me, in triumph, to spend a bit of time, with a cup of coffee and some quiet.
As I dim some lights, I turn on my heart to see what God, what Life, may say to me. It feels good, being good to me. It feels great, in fact. What does life have in store for me, tomorrow? I have no idea. I DO know that tomorrow does not hold a vacuum waiting for me! I took care of that, today….lol…..
As we prepare to begin again, again, remember to keep your promises you have made. Especially, to you. Take, the dare. Make, the call. Write, the letter. Stay, hopeful. Stay, present.
Say.
Live.
Love.
I do these things with you.
We got this, beloveds. We are one step closer. To what, you ask? You tell me.
True and LASTING change takes time. Be good to you, as circumstances toss you to and fro. It’s perfectly okay to feel unsettled. You ARE unsettled. You are being moved to the place you were born for.
Be encouraged, beloveds.
This moving, this shaking, is maddening. It’s painful. It’s challenging. It’s also fun, if you let it be. You get to discover, to rediscover all your nooks and crannies. You get to revisit this, toss out that. You get to remake, reshape, redo, undo, figure out what TO do, with all of you.
Be encouraged, beloveds.
This shaking is shaking out the best of you. God and Life are discarding what’s left. Those things that have held you back shall hold you back, not much longer. As you continue to fight, argue, fuss, scream, cry, pout, laugh, dance delicately, comfort eat, eat modestly….keep on going. You got this!!
Be encouraged, beloveds.
You have done your all, let the rest be what it be. Enjoy your weekend. You have earned the right to rest. Rest. Clear your mind. Shake the cobwebs off of something you enjoy and get to enjoying it. ENJOY this time. It will never come again this way. Enjoy you NOW, not when you think you have ‘arrived’. Give yourself permission to be there already…lol…
You are beautifully made in ALL your stages. Keep on strutting your stuff. Those who gets you will get you. The rest…*shrug*….they make me no never mind. I figure I am giving them something interesting to talk about…*shrug*.
As this day comes to it’s close, thank it for ALL that it presented you. Then, tell it to go on head and kick some rocks. You got some chillaxing to do.
I was just laying here, enjoying thoughts of mom, enjoying thoughts of folks, all over the world, folks I have never meet, folks I may never meet.
I thought of mom, thought of folks, thought of my yippeee, thought of chili, well made.
I thought of coffee, enjoyed alone, whilst writing to others to let them know that they were not alone.
I thought of ocean views that I can’t yet visit. I thought of trampling through sand, sloshing out into the welcoming arms of the sea.
I thought of dreams, long held, never fulfilled. Dreams disturbing my dreams refusing to allow rest/sleep entrance into dreams demanding to have their say.
I thought of the love songs I have sung terribly ALL day. Singing songs to a lover I can not see, one I may never meet.
I thought of hard days, recent ones, past ones, future ones to come where grief, sorrow, frustration and sadness had their way.
I thought of peaceful days that chased the hard days away.
I thought of friends, long gone. Friends, far away. Friends who disappointed me. Friends I have disappointed. Thought of them all. Thought of how much I love them, all, still.
I thought of God and Life. Of how much they work the last of my nerves as I do my best to do my best when the best of me is all tied up in the rest of this mess called me.
I thought of loved ones. Those here. Those gone.
I thought of 53 years lived wondering how many more moments this life has yet to be lived.
I thought of all of those things, these things, many, many other things. Too many to fit upon this or any page.
