I went back to making mini motivational videos for Tiktok.
I have enjoyed making them. Yet, I stopped because the Algorithm wasn’t pushing out my content.
Also, the numbers were super low.
Interestingly enough, I found that I could do great numbers by doing nothing other than using a Male’s A1 voice.
I experimented. I even tried making some with my words, with music but no voice over. The success was still minimal.
I asked myself if I would be content forever hiding MY voice just to get noticed for someone else’s.
What’s more important, I asked myself? The attention or sharing ME?
Also, if the words were being SEEN and HEARD, isn’t the message more important than the messenger!
Ah! Great questions. Both can be true.
There is nothing wrong with using what’s available to get our message across.
That said, we also have to be true to ourselves. We have value. We must find the courage to do us until we turn the tide.
Women are not celebrated in the motivational spaces. Folk are used to seeing men hollering epithets and demands into the microphone.
Yes, this form of motivation has it’s place. There is also a place for more quiet reflection. Real talk: I can scream and holler, as necessary, with the best of them.
I have decided to do both. Some of his. Some of mine. My goal is edifying, uplifting and inspiring. So long as the method is based on/in integrity, I am happy trying all kinds of things.
Don’t be dictated by numbers/algorithms, beloveds. March to the beat of your own drum.
